Yegues S.

Ocoee, FL

About Yegues

I am currently the guitar teacher at Ocoee High School.

I have a degree in Music Education and Flute Performance from Florida State University. Flute was my primary instrument throughout high school and college, but guitar is now my main focus. I have given multiple lessons and master classes on both flute and guitar. I have also been a music theory tutor for many students. I have a lot of experience with both giving and receiving lessons, so I have learned many ways to adapt to any situation.

I love laughing and making jokes, which is one of the most important aspects of any teacher. Le
ssons should be something to look forward to rather than dreading to spend time practicing. I do prefer being more laid back as a teacher, but still know when it's time to get more serious about the work.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am laid back most of the time time, but I still expect whatever we assigned to be practiced for the next/current lesson. I will expect some form of technique exercise to be played as a warm up to each lesson as well as non-instrumental warm-ups like breathing. As a student, you can choose repertoire to work on, or I can provide music and etudes depending on the skill level. I can provide any supplementary materials as needed.

Music lessons - Flute and guitar are the two instruments I play at a professional level, however, I am able to play and have a solid understanding of most instruments.

Math lessons - My experience ranges from elementary to college as far as giving lessons. I come into lessons prepared, and will know most of the subject matter presented, and if not, I am a quick learner and am able to understand material presented very quickly.

Natalie H.

Yalaha, FL

About Natalie

Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, at the age of 9, Natalie knew music was something that was just a part of who she was. Writing songs on the piano before lessons could be scheduled, Natalie found herself immersed in a medium that would bring her joy for the rest of her life.

By age 14 Natalie had won several trophies competing in Classical piano with the Illinois Music Association.

As an adult, she would go on to fill her life with the world of music as a singer, songwriter, performer and recording artist.

Graduating from Elmhurst College (1997) with a Bachelor's in M
usic, Natalie received high accolades earning a membership in the Lambda Sigma Psi Music Honor Society.

During her college years, Natalie created and owned a local music publication called, "The Local Buzz". At this moment she had discovered her desire to teach. "I just wanted everyone I knew in music to know and use what I was learning, or had learned from the music classes, professionals I had been meeting and working with, and my overall music life experiences". By 1997, Natalie was signed to an independent label and embarked on a new adventure.

"Music is an adventure, but without the foundation and passion I had as a child, I would have never landed where I did. I truly LOVE to teach and share what I know about piano, and the world of music. Music is what I know, and know best. Helping to create a solid foundation and build confidence in someone embarking on a journey in music is the most rewarding profession I have ever had the honor of participating in."

*** Lesson Details ***
Natalie enjoys teaching students of any age, but specializes in piano, voice and beginning guitar, tailoring lessons to each individual's goals and reasons for learning whether it be for personal pleasure or professional performance.

Lily L.

Orlando, FL

About Lily

Hello!

I am a 2014 graduate of the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Development and Education. I have completed 2 internships, both in 1st grade, then taught Kindergarten in Seminole county Schools for one year and have since discovered my love for teaching in one-on-one situations. I believe that building relationships is an important and integral part of effective teaching, and the learning stems from that.

I have a passion for music, and have been playing flute since 2003, piano since 1998, and guitar since 2006. I played the flute thr
oughout middle and high school, and I continue playing for weddings, holiday performances, etc. to this day. I have consistently auditioned for All-County performances all throughout middle and high school with flute, and have received top positions.

I have been playing piano since 1998, taken piano lessons for 7 years, and performed in several recitals.

I have taught myself guitar and ukulele and have performed in a few festivals and coffee shops around Orlando. When I was teaching, I often brought my instruments with me to play for my kindergarten class!

I've also enjoyed venturing into the world of graphic/web design, and since Fall 2015, have been running my own tiny little design business at lilyliseno.com. I taught myself how to do some basic coding using HTML and CSS, and how to use adobe photoshop and illustrator to create website designs, social media graphics, logos, flyers, and t-shirt designs.

**TEACHING STYLE**

My teaching style is laid back and casual in nature. I believe the most productive learning comes through relationships, trust, and fun! I strive in cozy environments and hope to create a welcoming space for our lesson time. (Check out my pictures to see my lesson space!)

I am very flexible and will work around your schedule.

**LESSON DETAILS**

Piano lessons will be held in my home in Orlando. If you are a beginning piano student you will need to purchase your own book (about $5 on amazon).

Flute lessons will be held in my house in Orlando or online (via TakLessons Classroom, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, or Skype). You will need to have your own flute for lessons and practice.

Guitar or Ukulele lessons will be held in my house or online (via TakLessons Classroom, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, or Skype). You will need to have your own instrument available for lessons and practice.

Tom S.

Longwood, FL

About Tom

English Literature, BA

Teaching non-English speaking students the basic AND advanced fundamentals of English.

I work at the elementary, secondary and post-secondary levels as an adult education instructor providing English instruction to classes or individual students.

As a ESL teacher, developing a curriculum that takes an overall approach to English study that focus on a specific aspect of language use, such as life skills, literacy, or vocational and workplace English. Both approaches involve teaching my students basic English skills, such as listening, reading, writing and speak
ing.

Classroom work consist of pronunciation techniques, quizzes, textbooks, videos and computer lessons. I often combine basic studies with real-life interactions involving language use in different situations, such as shopping, schooling, job hunting or working with English-speaking coworkers.

Awareness of the students' culture and I recognize differences that may affect a student's ability to acclimate to a English-speaking environment.

STUDENTS LESSON DETAILS

I prefer to discuss goals with my students and their parents to determine what they are most interested in ACHIEVING. Together create a lesson plan designed for the individual student.

The Pedagogical Foundations Of EnglishCentral

By David Deubelbeiss

EnglishCentral is a company that takes pride in having experienced teachers on staff and designing a product that will help students learn and acquire English, particularly for international communication.

Too often technology is designed without the control or voice of educators. Technology for technology's sake. We have tried to avoid this error and build an e-learning platform that puts pedagogy and learning first.

Here are the key aspects of English Central's pedagogy:

1. Motivation.

We live in a visual and digital world. Students consume enormous amounts of video content and video has become the new textbook. EnglishCentral harnesses this built in, intrinsic level of motivation - why not learn English while viewing videos you love? EnglishCentral publishes 30 new video lessons per week and its vast library of video lessons and courses offers every student the chance to study what they want and listen to messages they want to hear.

2. Comprehensible Input

Not only do students need to listen to messages they want to hear - these messages must be level appropriate (Krashen, 2001). Each EnglishCentral video lesson or course plus our vocabulary is leveled and can be assigned to students based on their level of English. This provides appropriate practice maximizing language acquisition.

3. Precise, Timely Feedback

EnglishCentral provides instant feedback to students. Students begin to "notice the gap" (Schmidt, 1990) and begin to self-correct as they compare their speech to the original. Tools are provided so students can "dig down" and understand the language and get the answers they need immediately. EnglishCentral works to promote learner autonomy.

4. Lowered Affective Filter

Many students go through a substantial "silent period" (Krashen, 1985). Others need the time and space given through self-study before they are ready to excel in the very socially demanding classroom. EnglishCentral provides a safe, low anxiety environment where learners can proceed at their own pace and practice speaking in a non-threatening place. Teachers are often amazed how the quiet students in their class "bloom" on EnglishCentral.

5. An Oral Language Focus

The 21st century workplace and global nature of communication demands that students have strong speaking skills. The importance of written communication is receding. EnglishCentral's proprietary speech recognition system IntelliSpeech™ trains students to produce, clear, intelligible speech for effective communication across cultures and borders.

6. Blended Learning

The future of education lies in blended learning (Arne Duncan, 2014). EnglishCentral partners with schools and teachers offering a unique blended learning model and platform. Courses and video lessons can perfectly compliment what students learn in class, providing students with extra practice matching the class curriculum. Our free LMS lets teachers extend the curriculum and track student achievement.

7. Structured Learning

Our simple Watch | Learn | Speak methodology provides low cognitive overload and an easy to follow learning pathway. Courses and video lessons are leveled and vocabulary is presented with spaced-time repetition. EnglishCentral monitors every word or expression students study and provides a simple interface where students can use the feedback to improve their pronunciation and build their vocabulary.

8. Gaming

Students are highly engaged by the gaming dynamics of EnglishCentral. Students compete for XPs (Experience Points) and ranking through their study. However, we don't go overboard and aim to keep the focus on the learning, not the gaming.

9. Ambiguity Tolerance

Language is a vast and unpredictable space. Successful language learners are risk takers. Critical to being a risk taker is having a strong ability to not be stressed out by what you don't understand (Brown, 2007). EnglishCentral provides authentic content that challenges students to focus on the general meaning and gist and strengthen their level of ambiguity tolerance.

David Deubelbeiss is a professor, educational consultant and teacher trainer currently at the Schulich School of Education, Nipissing University, North Bay, Canada. He is a leader in promoting the use of technology in language teaching and the use of social media in education. He is the Director of Education at EnglishCentral. Find him online at his professional development community for teachers, EFL Classroom 2.0 or through his LinkedIn profile. He espouses the simple teaching philosophy of “When one teaches, two learn.”

Bill has been great working with my grandson. He is speaking much better. Now I can understand what he is saying without having to constantly ask him, What did you say? Even though he is speaking much better, there are still things about speaking he is learning from Bill. I am very pleased and am sure that this investment will pay off greatly in the future for my grandson. First impressions are made in the first 15 seconds. I think my grandson can get past those 15 seconds now.

Mr. Patti was a wonderful instructor. I loved how he went beyond the course to provide life lessons and career advise.

During our sessions, he had me practicing on a professional-style microphone, recorded me performing commercials from scripts, and provided feedback and constructive criticism that helped me to grow as a communications student.

I would highly recommend Mr. Patti to any student looking to improve their voice, their stage-presence, presentations, or public-speaking skills.
