Bryan has been great to work with. He has a lot of patience, which is important for someone like me who has a very limited musical background. He is clearly well educated in singing and is able to impart his knowledge to his students. I believe that anyone who takes lessons with him has the potential to greatly improve.

Ari F.

Marblehead, MA

About Ari

Hello there! My name is Ari, and I am a recent Psychology graduate living in Marblehead. I have been tutoring for 8 years and working in education/childcare generally for about 10 years. I have worked with kids of all ages (elementary to college) in all major subjects and several specialties.

I have worked with individuals with several types of learning, social, and emotional complications. I have worked with several learning styles and therein take an adaptive teaching approach. I see tutoring as not pure pedantry, but a constructive process whereby the student, the student's parent(s) (if
involved) and myself regularly discuss the style of the tutoring sessions as well as the student's study habits as appropriate by age.

Christien B.

Waltham, MA

About Christien

Hi! I recently earned a degree in Early Music Voice from the Longy School of Music of Bard College, and have studied voice with private teachers intermittently over the past two decades. I would like to aid those students who are interested in learning about music from medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods.

I also have a Master's in Cello Performance, and can teach cello at the beginner to upper intermediate level! My experience in teaching is with modern (standard) cello, but I can also teach the basics of baroque cello (with gut strings and a baroque bow). Gut strings can be finicky
, but their sound is warm and expressive. If you are interested to know more, just drop me a note! Another instrument I can teach is the Viola da Gamba, a very interesting early 6- or 7-string instrument with gut strings. (That's the instrument I'm holding in my profile picture!) This instrument is a bit like a cello crossed with a guitar. It's played with a bow, but the neck has frets. Playing the "gamba" (or "viol") can be a gymnastics workout for the left hand, but once you get the hang of it, you can play beautiful chords. This is the instrument that is featured in the French film "Tous les matins du monde".

Aside from music, I have taught English as a Foreign and Second Language (in Bulgaria with Peace Corps, in New Mexico with Berlitz, at the U. of New Mexico). I would be very pleased to help students of any age with reading, listening comprehension, and writing!

Aside from the obvious qualification of speaking both English and Spanish, Gabriela has both a drive to help others learn and the understanding that a new language takes time, patience, and practice. She has been instrumental in keeping my Spanish from falling apart, and actively pushes me to expand my knowledge of the language.

Gabriela has been a friend for the past several years and thanks to her, I have been able to practice my written and conversational Spanish skills with her. She is very kind and outgoing, and makes learning fun. She can also talk about many different topics and can tell you everything about Venezuelan culture. My Spanish has greatly improved with her help, and I highly recommend her.

I was Gabriela's Teaching Assistant when she was taking her last Biology Course (Animal Physiology). She is insightful and always found creative ways to memorize biological processes, without leaving out the understanding of the mechanisms behind them.
