Farobag C.

Orland Park, IL

About Farobag

Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago Performing Artists Series from 1989 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.

A double graduate of the Eastma
n School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States. In addition to the Suzuki curriculum, he is also associated with the Royal Conservatory Music Development Program that sets a national standard of musical achievement in various fields.

Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto. A New Year's eve performance in Los Angeles is scheduled for 2014.

Having also taken graduate-level coursework in educational psychology, mathematics, and philosophy at the University of Chicago, Farobag offers tutelage in various areas of elementary and secondary education as well as in SAT, ACT and GRE test preparation.

Additionally, as a certified Reiki Master, therapeutic and/or educational sessions are also extended to those who may be inclined to alternative healing techniques.

*** Lesson Details ***
Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !

Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.

A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lesson take place in the living room. Driveway parking. No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
None; I do expect a reasonably good piano / keyboard at a student's home.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki-based education. Performance and musicality training is open to all instrumentalists.

*** CD's***
Classical Energy, Triton Sound, TS 8501
Salut D'Amour, Triton Sound, TS 9014
Epiphanies1, The Halford Company

I have had the pleasure of taking vocal lessons from Mr. Cooper for about 2 years now, as well as starting Suzuki piano not too long ago. He is a gifted teacher who truly has a passion for teaching and love for music! Not only has he improved my aural skills, but he has helped me understand music on a much deeper level! My knowledge of technique and overall musicianship has improved drastically while taking lessons with him. Mr. Cooper has challenged me and broadened my musical horizons. He has helped me advance and learn new technique on the piano, as well as expanding my vocal range and performance skills. I would highly recommend him!

Amadou C.

Chicago, IL

About Amadou

I am a distinguished graduate with Summa Cum Laude honors from Ivy Tech College. I make it my duty to break down many of the complexities in math and science that have been plaguing students since the beginning of time. I have over 7 years of teaching experience, and I have taught several middle-school and high-school students math, science and ACT/SAT prep who have went on to make 180 degree turns in their grades under my instruction. And because I have worked with such a vast diversity of people over the span of 16 countries throughout the world, I have developed the patience and understand
ing that is crucial in producing stellar students. Age has never been a problem with me, as I've helped several post-graduate students straighten out their grievances in math and science.

As an engineering major at IIT, I naturally maintain an exemplary study ethic that inspires my students to achieve more. I bring results. I relate to my students by incorporating elements of the things that they like (sports, hobbies, music, etc...) into their most challenging courses allowing them to develop a passion for the courses I tutor. Additionally, I always make a conscious effort to work at each student's own pace and I make it my priority to decompose enigmatic topics into components that can be more easily internalized by my students, effectively increasing their grades and giving them the self-confidence and enthusiasm they need to fuel their future academic endeavors. I guarantee quality, commitment, and a passion for training my students to be the best.

I have lived in over 20 countries, which allowed me to speak several languages, and which permitted me to maintain my patience, élan and spirit of enthusiasm when dealing with even the most extreme personalities. I have solid background in both math and the natural sciences, as I have consistently maintained a 4.0 G.P.A since high school. I am now studying mechanical engineering at IIT, and I have gotten 5s in all of my AP Chemistry, AP Physics and AP Biology exams. I have also been the winner of many STEM-related competitions, through my demonstrating of exemplary leadership qualities and through my brainstorming of blue-sky ideas. I am also a "Mental-Math" practitioner, reflexologist and guitarist. I believe that everyone has potential; however potential is worthless unless put in motion. And experts like me value ourselves in our abilities to give students that push, that jolt of energy that galvanizes them into pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps, allowing them to achieve academic excellence.

Amadou has been a great help for our daughter. She was struggling in her class and wasn't exactly seeing eye-to-eye with the teacher. Amadou was able to identify her strength/weaknesses and encouraged her to not doubt her initial instincts. While it took sometime for her to realize it, he influenced her to change her study habit. He followed up with us by providing addition work/practice problems that strategically enabled her to work in a "harder" problem. I do believe that he is worth every penny.

Danielle V.

Chicago, IL

About Danielle

As an experienced piano teacher of 10 years, I have taught over 30 kids of all ages and levels (from beginner to advanced). While I focus on classical training, I am open to teaching any style of music you prefer and will be sure to incorporate an element of theory, musical expression, sight reading, and most importantly, enjoyment. I make a big effort to adapt my teaching style to each and every student. Throughout the course of study, I also offer all students the opportunity to learn performance and composition, and participate in self-hosted semi-annual recitals. Music is a therapy for th
e soul and I am very excited to share this passion with you.

I also love to tutor students in mathematics and economics. Please feel free to reach out to me if you'd like me to help your child excel! I would love to help your child gain an appreciation for either subject. I am very patient and focused on success!

A bit about me: I am a classically trained pianist and have been playing/performing piano for 17 years. In college, I received a bachelors in Economics and Music, and was the primary accompanist for all vocal majors and music school auditions. Moreover, I am affiliated with the Lisker Music Foundation – a foundation focused on showcasing young, internationally acclaimed musicians.

While in school, I was also a Statistics and Microeconomics T.A. Post-graduation, I have taken Calculus 3 and Linear Algebra at the Northwestern School of Professional Studies. Currently, I am attending the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

* A Glance Into How Lessons Work *

The main focus is you, the student. I will make sure to balance tailoring each lesson to your musical interests and helping you to grow professionally and technically as a musician. As such, the actual curriculum of the lessons I teach will vary greatly depending on your level and what style of music you find most meaningful to you.

I do expect my students to work on their assigned music over the week and to come prepared to all of their lessons. Music, while a great outlet for the soul, also requires a sense of commitment and self-motivation to improve. I want to instill these habits of mind in my students.

* Travel Equipment *
I expect students to have a piano or full keyboard for practice and lessons. I have a wonderful connection to a couple piano/keyboard retailers and will gladly help you find the right instrument.
