About Farobag
Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago Performing Artists Series from 1989 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.

A double graduate of the Eastma
n School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States. In addition to the Suzuki curriculum, he is also associated with the Royal Conservatory Music Development Program that sets a national standard of musical achievement in various fields.

Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto. A New Year's eve performance in Los Angeles is scheduled for 2014.

Having also taken graduate-level coursework in educational psychology, mathematics, and philosophy at the University of Chicago, Farobag offers tutelage in various areas of elementary and secondary education as well as in SAT, ACT and GRE test preparation.

Additionally, as a certified Reiki Master, therapeutic and/or educational sessions are also extended to those who may be inclined to alternative healing techniques.

*** Lesson Details ***
Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !

Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.

A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lesson take place in the living room. Driveway parking. No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
None; I do expect a reasonably good piano / keyboard at a student's home.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki-based education. Performance and musicality training is open to all instrumentalists.

*** CD's***
Classical Energy, Triton Sound, TS 8501
Salut D'Amour, Triton Sound, TS 9014
Epiphanies1, The Halford Company

I have had the pleasure of taking vocal lessons from Mr. Cooper for about 2 years now, as well as starting Suzuki piano not too long ago. He is a gifted teacher who truly has a passion for teaching and love for music! Not only has he improved my aural skills, but he has helped me understand music on a much deeper level! My knowledge of technique and overall musicianship has improved drastically while taking lessons with him. Mr. Cooper has challenged me and broadened my musical horizons. He has helped me advance and learn new technique on the piano, as well as expanding my vocal range and performance skills. I would highly recommend him!

About Benjamin
I have extensively studied vocal performance for many years and continue to add to my own technique. I have a Master of Vocal Performance Degree from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. I currently work for a recording studio (Sound Summit Studios in Naperville IL) where I teach voice and help singers record their music in the studio. I have previously taught at The School of Rock in Indianapolis Indiana. I have administered vocal lessons to every voice type at all different levels. Several of my students have recored albums and are currently performing all over the U.S.

I have a bachel
ors degree in biology with a minor in art. After graduating college, I was a full-time high school biology teacher, volleyball coach, and director of the school musical. As a high school teacher, I learned first hand the kind of pressure and expectations that are placed on students in order for them to succeed. In college, I was the head student researcher on a two-year lab project. I took several upper level science courses including: biochemistry, calculus, organic chemistry, calculus based physics, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology. I studied marine biology in the Virgin Islands and am CPR certified.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice lessons with me are fun and effective. You can expect to hear improved technique from day one, eventually reaching your long term goals. I begin every lesson aligning the students voice through various vocal warm ups and exercises. We then work together to pick repertoire that will suit the singer'€™s voice and they will enjoy singing. During a lesson we will also cover performance presentation, acting, diction, rhythm, musicality, style, and interpretation.

During tutoring you can expect a personalized plan based on your goals and aspirations. Since every student is different you can be assured we will come up with a plan that is designed just for you. I am a laid back tutor but will be sure to get the most out of you after our time together. Most students see at least a one letter grade improvement. My main goal for every tutoring session is student learning and comprehension.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, recording equipment, large collection of sheet music

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in helping students find their true singing voice.

I could not be happier with my decision to take voice lessons with Ben! These past couple of months have been more beneficial to me than any of my previous experience with other teachers. I have already seen improvement in my voice and there is still so much I can learn. Ben works to improve the voice as a whole, rather than limiting it to one specific area. I would highly recommend him to those who are ready to put in the work necessary to get great results.

I've never had vocal lessons before and my singing voice has never improved faster since I started lessons with Benjamin. He's a great teacher in many ways. His personal approach will take wherever you are as a singer to the next level. He will teach you not only proper techniques, control, and mindset of a singer; but he also teaches how to bring out your unique style and encourages your own personal expression.

You can waste your whole life listening to voice techniques from YouTube, but if you don't have Benjamin then you'll never achieve what you imagine your voice can be.

I have been taking lessons with Benjamin for 3 months. He is an excellent teacher. I have received little training in singing prior to Benjamin. He helps me find my voice and figure out how to sing in a correct way. I can feel I have made steady improvement within the past few months. He is very encouraging and always supportive of my growth. It is fun to work with him. I highly recommend him!

About Bertina
Hi, my name is Bertina and I have been tutoring math for college student since 2003. I graduated with a Bachelors in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University in the spring of 2007 and started working with students with autism and other disabilities since 2008. In 2010, I started working for a tutoring company helping students achieve their academic goals and improve their test-taking skills in ACT prep.

When working with students, I always do my best to develop a really good rapport with the student and to help engage them in a lesson that works around their strengths and wea
knesses. I like to focus on both the strengths and weaknesses for the student so that he or she can improve in all areas. I like to develop a positive relationship not only with my student, but also with the parent so that with the communication, we can work as a team and accomplish a great deal more! I look forward to hearing from you soon!
