I teach Broadway singing to beginners, intermediate, advanced, and touring professionals.
During your first lesson I do a computer analysis of your voice, I find out what your goals are in singing, what your favorite kinds of music are, and I take you in the direction you want to go and show you how to get there in the shortest possible time.
I always record my students so that they know how they sound to others. I also make a CD of them singing to background music if they wish, included in the cost of the lessons for no extra charge.
Learn to sing beautifully, and most important, emotionally.
Learn the parts of your vocal instrument, How each works, How they work together. Develop Breath support (80% of singing).
Learn how to do the Singer's Formant, "Squillo" (that "ringing" sound of professionals).
Learn how to conquer nervousness, learn Resonance, Overtones, Vibrato, How to sing high notes, Learn the "singing vowels", and more.
I would rather teach singing than ...
I've been teaching singing for a little over seven years and my students have gone on to truly have fun with their new singing voice. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to understand the basics of how to sing your favorite songs, and as time goes on, you'll be able to mix and vibrato. I specialize in all singing styles and techniques, typically use the Singing Book by Meribeth Dayme and Seth Riggs Singing for the Stars, and have the following tools available for your lessons: a keyboard and a recording device. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!
Broadway Singing lessons will teach you the techniques to get you from singing in the shower, to singing on the stage! Learn the best methods to keep your voice healthy and in good shape, memorize lyrics and convey them with sincerity (despite your nerves!), develop a character and "become" that character while you sing and more!
Students can expect each lesson to include vocal exercises designed to teach and reinforce proper vocal techniques. Lessons will also include individual work on music/songs that are of interest to the student in which those learned techniques can be applied.
Students are expected to practice at least 15 minutes per day in order to show improvement.
I have been teaching voice for 7 years and use classical vocal techniques as the foundation for all singing training. You will then learn how to build the musical theatre style on top of that. The goal is, by focusing on proper breath support, ear training, and the exploration of your own voice, to produce a HEALTHY, rich, vibrant sound that will sustain you through 8 shows a week.
