I teach reading rhythms, playing with a bend and how to groove!
I have taught private guitar, piano, bass and drum lessons since the late 70s in Salt Lake City, where I majored in jazz guitar performance, and since 1980 in Los Angeles. I make the lessons fun. Some of my students have received college scholarships and won cash prizes for music contests. All of them had fun while learning and improving on their instruments.
*** Lesson Details *** I am very enthusiastic and can teach students how to read. If they do not want to read music, they can learn to play by ear. I can also show them where to put their fingers. During piano lessons, I often accompa
ny students on guitar and suggest a scale for improvisation, so they can play the blues. During drum lessons, I often play bass so they can learn to groove.
*** Travel Equipment *** They should have their own instrument and a music stand.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in jazz improvisation on piano and guitar. I also teach recreational guitar and piano for adults, including classical and blues styles. I coach bass players and drummers in playing stylistically correct grooves for jazz, rock and latin music.

I developed a desire later in life to learn how to play jazz and blues piano. I was very fortunate to start learning from Mike. He started me out with basic blues and over time I progressed into many of the jazz standards. Because he is also an accomplished guitar player, at all his lessons, he would accompany me while I played the new piece of music I was learning. He also does this if you are learning the guitar. This was very helpful in giving me a more complete musical experience, as I also learned to hear and play with other musicians. He is an extremely patient and upbeat instructor, constantly giving me positive reinforcement. I would get a new tune to practice as I became more proficient with the previous one. Each new tune became progressively more challenging. Having taken lessons from Mike for many years, I also witnessed his teaching and developing of younger kids. He really works with them in a positive way giving them as much time as they need to turn the corner on each tune and progress forward. They seem to enjoy it and he has developed some great musicians. As part of his instruction, he gives all his students an opportunity to participate in a Jazz Band he puts together. In this Jazz Band he leads all the players in working together though a jam session. Other players may include guitarists, brass players and keyboardists, young and older. Frankly I am forever grateful to Mike for helping me create the foundation to play jazz and blues piano both alone and with a group of other musicians.

I had been taking piano lessons for close to 6 years when I started with Mike. I learned more about playing jazz from him in a year than I had in all that time from a number of other teachers. Very easy to get a long with and makes class a lot of fun. Very highly recommend!
Drumset only. I can teach students a variety of basic drum grooves in a variety of styles and can help students understand how to incorporate fills into their playing. I can also teach reading basics.
I have been happily playing music for over half of my life and it has always been the light in my day. Now it is my hope to shed that same light onto you or your child. I am a very friendly and fun teacher with a great deal of professionalism and patience, even more importantly I love teaching and music with a passion.
I have been playing an instrument since the 4th grade (cello) and, as I learned how music works, was slowly able to pick-up a greater variety instruments with an increasing degree of ease. In high school, I decided to pick-up the guitar just to "have fun and rock out". I join
ed a band, played in the high school orchestra, joined the high school jazz band and began to practice songwriting and cover songs. Still, it was not until after I took my first class on music theory that I knew how much I not only loved the thrill of playing music but the discovery of how it worked. With this experience I can show you or your child why learning an instrument can be not only an exciting experience but an interesting and enthralling one as well.
I have been teaching music for over 5 years and have had experience with children as young as 5 to adults in their late 80's. I am a very attentive teacher who can not only help get you moving in the right direction but keep you on that path until your are a self-sufficient musician. A status that allows you to learn whatever you want on your instrument by yourself, whether it be for business, pleasure or for mere self-improvement.
I have had the chance to study with graduates of the Musician's Institute (MI), the California Institute of the Arts (CAL Arts) and Berklee College of Music. This has given me an inside look into how and what each institute teaches, as well as a first hand look at the techniques and ideas that the great players from these remarkable schools have come to produce.
My formal music education consists of 2 years at Pasadena City College where I obtained my general Associates Degree (much of the studies included music) and a semester at California State University Long Beach as a Jazz Guitar Performance Major. Additionally I have taken a great deal of classes in California State University Long Beach's teaching credential program, where I learned strategies and theories of how and what to teach my students - making me that much more effective at my craft. At Pasadena City College I studied with jazz/classical guitarist, Ron Berman, who has played with such jazz greats as Herb Ellis and Jimmy Wyble. At Cal State Long Beach I studied with jazz guitarist Ron Eschete, a former teacher at MI who has toured with the likes of Ray Brown, John Dizzy Gillespie and Jim Hall.
Most importantly I hope to show you or your child a new way to love and appreciate music. And to provide you with the ability to have the most fun on your instrument as possible.
I am also part of Takelessons Skype lessons program (lessons that take place on the internet via Skype) for those looking for a more convenient or affordable way to take music lessons from home.
*** Lesson Details *** Throughout my lessons, I always encourage basic skills including scales, sight-reading and technical exercises. But what I hope to give all my students is a basic understanding of music and their instrument, providing them with a practical ability to navigate the vast world of music for a lifetime.
Beyond these skills, I always have songs, styles and theory for you to work on but I am often more interested in what you as an individual want to learn on your instrument. Getting to learn concepts that you have chosen yourself will help encourage practice and will make the finished product all the more the rewarding.
I can custom tailor a teaching curriculum and/or style for any of my students: we can focus on learning songs, learning to read, how to write music, how music works, and even how to play specific styles of music (including funk, rock, jazz, Latin, flamenco, classical, country and blues). I also self tailor my own worksheets and set weekly goals with my students to help encourage practice, understanding and progress. For students interested in more advanced concepts, I can also teach ear training, music theory, advanced jazz improvisation as well as advanced playing techniques.
And... all this in a friendly and easy-going teaching environment.
*** Studio Equipment *** Located in my home garage, it is equipped with a small stage, an upright piano, an electric keyboard, a PA system, amplifiers, a drum set, a lap steel guitar, a pedal steel guitar, 2 cellos, multiple guitars, a mandolin, a dobro, 2 5-string banjos, a 4-string tenor banjo, a ukulele, 2 accordions and 2 electric basses.
*** Travel Equipment *** I can provide a guitar, cello (a full size), electric bass, a banjo, an amp, an accordion, cords and the occasional pick to students (sorry no spare mandolin or ukulele). I would only require an outlet and room to practice in; if the student could bring a pick that would be fantastic as well! I can also bring acoustic guitars if an outlet is unavailable and if that is in fact the kind of guitar the student wants to learn.
For piano students, it is best that they have their own piano or keyboard at their home; if the student is unable to obtain a piano for the first few lessons I do have a mobile keyboard but would require a fair amount of setting up.
*** Specialties *** Styles: Jazz, Rock, Reggae, Metal, Funk, Progressive Rock, Classical, Folk, Bluegrass, Country, Various forms of Latin Music, Blues, and a few others.
Instruments: Beginning to Intermediate - Drums, Accordion and Piano.
I recently graduated with a Drum Set Performance and Music Education dual degree at Berklee College of Music (in August 2014), and I am extremely capable of taking on students at all levels. I am a very patient teacher, and easy to work with. If the student is willing to take the time to practice, we can go a long way in not very much time at all. I am learned in drumming styles ranging from classical percussion to corps-style rudiment-based drumming to jazz/rock/Latin drum set.
I'm a graduate from Berklee College of Music where I studied Music Performance (for Drum Set) and Music Education. I've studied under great teachers including Rod Morgenstein, Henrique De Almeida, Jackie Santos, Steve Wilkes, and the list goes on. I also have experience performing in a wide variety of contexts and genres. In your lessons with me I will help you to achieve any musical goals you have as well as to take your current skills up to the next level and beyond. I have a wealth of knowledge about music theory and teaching methodology, as well as experience in execution of these skil
ls. Your lessons with me will be fun as well as informative, and if you are willing to put in the work I can guarantee you will make progress as my student.
*** Lesson Details *** I'm an easy-going guy, so I won't push you very hard unless you want me too. My lessons will focus on achieving your goals. If you want to master your instrument in general, we will focus on theoretical concepts and technique. If you are looking for a fun time and just trying to learn a few songs, I will help you to do that as well. Regardless of your learning goals, I will strive to make my lessons entertaining as well as informative, and together we will make rapid progress if you're willing to put in some work!
Excepting students of all ages and all levels in and around the greater Twin Cities area.
*** Travel Equipment *** Students must provide their own instruments and have something available to take notes with, but I will provide materials and anything else that is needed.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in Drum Set, all genres, but my strongest ones are Rock, Jazz, and Latin styles. I can teach lessons through advanced levels on drums of all sorts and percussion. I can teach or tutor Music Theory to a very high level as well. I am also proficient enough to teach beginner-intermediate piano.

William is a great teacher. I would recommend him for anyone seeking a teacher for children. He teaches both of ours (5 and 8). He has infinite patience, and power of redirection!
They both enjoy lessons--and they're learning!

An excited learning experience
I have had lessons for a month with Billy, and will continue to study with him in future. He is an excellent teacher. Nothing to neat pick, everything is just amazing. He taught every single details of what I should know about drumming, recommended a really helpful textbook to me, and even helped to make my practice a great fun other than a dull work for a beginner. I really appreciate those. If someone is expecting to have an effective and pleasing learning experience, just go ahead try to work with Billy. It is absolutely worth the time and effort. Hope that'd be helpful.
Focus on rudiments, fundamentals, technique. Snare solos, and different set techniques.
Drum lessons are only offered at the student's location.
Hi, I'm Bri! I'm a graduate of North Central College with a BA in Music (Emphasis in Composition and Percussion) and a minor in History. I absolutely love music, every single aspect of it. I want and love to make music a part of everybody's lives who want and need it. I want to help you with your musical needs. I have been playing percussion for 16 years, singing for 22, and playing piano for 18 years. I am currently in a recording and performing Chicago band, Oblio and Arrow where I provide backing vocals and help with the song arrangements. I also record vocals for different artists hooks, j
ingles, choruses, and entire songs (covers and originals).
History has always fascinated me. They way our world has developed and changed, and continues to evolve is amazing. Everything can be tied back to the past, and I feel it's important to take a look back, put yourself in that time, and really study how things were to help understand why things are the way they are now.
Crocheting and knitting are a couple of good habits/hobbies I picked up about 6 years ago. I sell scarves online and I'm always working on some sort of project. I will have you knitting and pearling with the best of them!
Music, history, crochet, and knitting....I'm your girl!

I went to college with Brianna and we were in the same concert band. She is a highly skilled musician! She definitely inspired me to grow as a musician myself by helping me learn songs and being a great player/singer herself. After college I joined an originals band. After a time we needed another singer/percussionist/keyboard player. I immediately thought of her and she shortly joined after and was an amazing fit!
As a former band member of Brianna's I very highly recommend that you take lessons with her. She is incredibly helpful, positive, skilled, and a genuinely good person who is easy to work with.

Athan is such a patient instructor. With me being an "older" student who doesn't learn as fast as I used to, he is very encouraging and nurturing. He is very talented and overall a great teacher. I hope I will become as good as him as a drummer one day. =)

I really enjoy Athan's approach to teaching. He changed my life musically!!!

Paul is a teacher kids and parents would beg for! He's patient, kind, funny and amazing with my son. My child is not easy t

"To learn a cool instrument, you need a cool teacher, and Carmen is the coolest! It's so fun to take her class. I even love it as a parent, hanging out d
uring the lesson and I see why my 8 year old loves coming to class. She's a true professional and her passion is infectious.
Carmen also has a way with kids. She pays enough attention to the kid to figure out their personality and draws them out. Little prizes, lots of praise, and my kid is highly motivated to learn and even practice at home.
Carmen uses a lot of technology to help them practice at home. I wish we had that when I was a kid. And did I mention how cool she is?"
