I grew up in Minnesota and started playing guitar when I was 13. Self-taught for three years, I developed a passion and love for music. Upon turning 16, I expanded my knowledge studying with a local guitarist, a musical genius in my opinion, who made a huge impact on my playing. In the fall of 2007 I relocated to Los Angeles to attend Musicians Institute for guitar performance. I graduated in 2009
Over the course of the last nine years I've been a part of six different live performing bands and currently work with my original band comprised entirely of Musicians Institute graduates, Delp
hian. Delphian can be seen and heard featured on screen in the Mike Judge film “Extract”. I study, perform and have vast knowledge in the styles of blues, classical, country, folk, jazz, metal and rock n' roll. Everyday as I continue to grow as a teacher and musician, so does my love for the guitar. I very much enjoy sharing my knowledge and seeing each of my students progress and grow as musicians.

We started off with a different drum instructor who turned out to be very unreliable. I asked take lessons to provide me with someone with good reviews. Someone who is punctual and reliable, that's when we met Jason. Jason is a super amazing instructor who has incredible patience. My son Nathan has never had any musical education before. After taking lessons with Jason for about three months he has a vast knowledge in playing drums and reading music. Jason utilizes his time very productively during lessons with no rush. He even goes to the extent to recommend and suggest products that will help Nathan improve. He is very humble, sweet and trustworthy. My family is glad that he came along. Thank you Jason from all of us.

Eli has been awesome. My son is really enjoying his lessons and feels so happy with his progress every week. Eli obviously has skills AND he knows how to share them. We couldn't be happier.

Very good with young children
My son is 4 years old and has only had two sessions with Eli however, he does a very good job of communicating with him on his level and keeping his focus. He also has given him practice exercises which seem to do the trick.
Drumset only. I can teach students a variety of basic drum grooves in a variety of styles and can help students understand how to incorporate fills into their playing. I can also teach reading basics.
I have been happily playing music for over half of my life and it has always been the light in my day. Now it is my hope to shed that same light onto you or your child. I am a very friendly and fun teacher with a great deal of professionalism and patience, even more importantly I love teaching and music with a passion.
I have been playing an instrument since the 4th grade (cello) and, as I learned how music works, was slowly able to pick-up a greater variety instruments with an increasing degree of ease. In high school, I decided to pick-up the guitar just to "have fun and rock out". I join
ed a band, played in the high school orchestra, joined the high school jazz band and began to practice songwriting and cover songs. Still, it was not until after I took my first class on music theory that I knew how much I not only loved the thrill of playing music but the discovery of how it worked. With this experience I can show you or your child why learning an instrument can be not only an exciting experience but an interesting and enthralling one as well.
I have been teaching music for over 5 years and have had experience with children as young as 5 to adults in their late 80's. I am a very attentive teacher who can not only help get you moving in the right direction but keep you on that path until your are a self-sufficient musician. A status that allows you to learn whatever you want on your instrument by yourself, whether it be for business, pleasure or for mere self-improvement.
I have had the chance to study with graduates of the Musician's Institute (MI), the California Institute of the Arts (CAL Arts) and Berklee College of Music. This has given me an inside look into how and what each institute teaches, as well as a first hand look at the techniques and ideas that the great players from these remarkable schools have come to produce.
My formal music education consists of 2 years at Pasadena City College where I obtained my general Associates Degree (much of the studies included music) and a semester at California State University Long Beach as a Jazz Guitar Performance Major. Additionally I have taken a great deal of classes in California State University Long Beach's teaching credential program, where I learned strategies and theories of how and what to teach my students - making me that much more effective at my craft. At Pasadena City College I studied with jazz/classical guitarist, Ron Berman, who has played with such jazz greats as Herb Ellis and Jimmy Wyble. At Cal State Long Beach I studied with jazz guitarist Ron Eschete, a former teacher at MI who has toured with the likes of Ray Brown, John Dizzy Gillespie and Jim Hall.
Most importantly I hope to show you or your child a new way to love and appreciate music. And to provide you with the ability to have the most fun on your instrument as possible.
I am also part of Takelessons Skype lessons program (lessons that take place on the internet via Skype) for those looking for a more convenient or affordable way to take music lessons from home.
*** Lesson Details *** Throughout my lessons, I always encourage basic skills including scales, sight-reading and technical exercises. But what I hope to give all my students is a basic understanding of music and their instrument, providing them with a practical ability to navigate the vast world of music for a lifetime.
Beyond these skills, I always have songs, styles and theory for you to work on but I am often more interested in what you as an individual want to learn on your instrument. Getting to learn concepts that you have chosen yourself will help encourage practice and will make the finished product all the more the rewarding.
I can custom tailor a teaching curriculum and/or style for any of my students: we can focus on learning songs, learning to read, how to write music, how music works, and even how to play specific styles of music (including funk, rock, jazz, Latin, flamenco, classical, country and blues). I also self tailor my own worksheets and set weekly goals with my students to help encourage practice, understanding and progress. For students interested in more advanced concepts, I can also teach ear training, music theory, advanced jazz improvisation as well as advanced playing techniques.
And... all this in a friendly and easy-going teaching environment.
*** Studio Equipment *** Located in my home garage, it is equipped with a small stage, an upright piano, an electric keyboard, a PA system, amplifiers, a drum set, a lap steel guitar, a pedal steel guitar, 2 cellos, multiple guitars, a mandolin, a dobro, 2 5-string banjos, a 4-string tenor banjo, a ukulele, 2 accordions and 2 electric basses.
*** Travel Equipment *** I can provide a guitar, cello (a full size), electric bass, a banjo, an amp, an accordion, cords and the occasional pick to students (sorry no spare mandolin or ukulele). I would only require an outlet and room to practice in; if the student could bring a pick that would be fantastic as well! I can also bring acoustic guitars if an outlet is unavailable and if that is in fact the kind of guitar the student wants to learn.
For piano students, it is best that they have their own piano or keyboard at their home; if the student is unable to obtain a piano for the first few lessons I do have a mobile keyboard but would require a fair amount of setting up.
*** Specialties *** Styles: Jazz, Rock, Reggae, Metal, Funk, Progressive Rock, Classical, Folk, Bluegrass, Country, Various forms of Latin Music, Blues, and a few others.
Instruments: Beginning to Intermediate - Drums, Accordion and Piano.
I also teach the beginning and advanced concepts of: Music Theory, Ear Training, Sight Reading, and Song Writing.

Jared as really made a positive contribution to my son's music education. First, let me say that he is very professional in his work ethic. He is always on time, plans the lessons; and when I asked for an evaluation for how my son's lessons were progressing he gave me a well thought out and thoughtful report. My son enjoys his lessons and appreciates the way that Jared talks to him when he is giving instructions and suggestions.
I feel my money is being well spent on my son's lessons. Jared is my son's first teacher after taking a year break from the cello after a very bad year long experience with a cello teacher at a music store--where my money and son's time was totally wasted. The lesson I learned from that experience was that when looking for a teacher find one that cares about what the student is learning and their goals; rather then the teacher's resume with regard to their educational background and not really caring about the student. I feel Jared is trying to make sure that my son learns and enjoys the cello.
My son is 13 years old; and as a thirteen year old boy he sometimes needs to be reminded to stay focused and Jared speaks to him respectfully to stay on point. (I should say my son likes to think he is funny at times). My son also likes taking his lesson online.
I would definitely recommend Jared as a cello teacher.
I have been drumming for 12 years now. I have studied and performed with many instructors and artists since the age of 15. Early on I studied jazz drumming with local drummers, Sinclair Lott, Matt Slocum and Peter Erskine. While attending the Macy Gray Music Academy in 2008 I studied drums with renowned musicians Stacey Lamont Sydnor and Al Pahanish Jr. During that time I was also performing with the Grammy Award Winner singer-songwriter Macy Gray. During high school I travelled and competed in many jazz festivals and won various awards including recognition in Downbeat magazine. I spent a summer at Berklee School of Music in Boston and studied under the great Larry Finn and Mark Walker. I I continued to study in college with Jason Harnell and recently received my bachelors of Music Performance from the University of California Irvine in 2014.
Hello future students!
I am a very easy-going guy and teacher. I have been playing music for about 12 years, studying diligently in and outside of school.
I'm recently finished studying and received my degree at the University of California Irvine for music performance. Through the various private lessons I have taken, I've learned many aspects to music education that help me with my students (you). I have been teaching music privately and in local schools for over 6 years now.
My goals as a teacher is to inspire students to create, perform and continue studying music.
son Details *** Although I want every student to have a good time during their lesson, I do expect a lot out of them. Depending on their ability and age different curriculum will be used. Generally I try to make each lesson a fun experience as well as informative. I like to drill the fundamentals but work with each student individually on what they enjoy and want to learn.
After a few months of practice, students will be able to play complete songs and grooves, they will be able to keep solid time, and will have developed basic tools to improvise and solo.
*** Studio Equipment *** Two drum sets, PA, recording equipment, upright piano, amps for guitar and bass, instruments and ear protection headphones.
The space is used for recording and rehearsals and is nearly soundproof.
*** Travel Equipment *** I can provide all instruments I teach. But in most cases I prefer that each student has their own instrument/software. It's very difficult to practice without an instrument.
*** Specialties *** My methods are to inspire students to play, perform, create, and more important practice. I try to make each lesson a fun experience as well as informative. I like to drill the fundamentals but work with each student individually on what they enjoy and want to learn.

Spencer has a true gift in the world of drumming. He is an excellent drummer, as well as a very effective teacher. He quickly knows where a student's weak spots are, and what to do to improve his/her skills quickly. He does this with lessons that are fun and motivating. He has great energy, and is a good listener. He is a great teacher, and can easily adjust his technique to match the needs for a child, a teenager, or an adult. I have no regrets...
My students will have the option to explore limb independence techniques for drum set involving the integration of West African rhythms on drum set.
We can also dive into jazz drumming from phrasing and technique to transcription and study of legendary jazz drummers and improvisational skills.
Concepts shown can be as basic as learning how to play your first groove to as technical as learning all different ostinato patterns and permutations for groove-building skills.
Greetings potential students! My name is Josh. I am an experienced drum instructor and I would really enjoy sharing my knowledge with you! I have a BM from Berklee College of Music and a MFA from California Institute of the Arts. I specialize in jazz drum set and West African drumming. I am willing to work with students of any age. I have taught undergraduate and graduate level private students at CalArts as a workstudy TA as well as group lessons in West African drumming styles. I have also taught high school level students as an assistant instructor in the West African Music program with Ca
lifornia State Summer School for the Arts, and elementary students with the CalArts Music Source agency. I can provide a bio, resume, performance log, and any materials you may need by request. My personal work can be found online at my web portfolio musicbylinsky . com
I look forward to meeting you in our first lesson!
Lauren July 16, 2015
Nothing I didn't like about the experience. I had two semesters of lessons from Josh and wish I could have done more. He was extremely knowledgeable and passionate of every style I wanted to learn between African, Jazz, Swing, etc.. I ended up learning more than I thought I would throughout my time with him, and his teaching styles made it easy for each practice to stay with me since. Josh knows how to work with someone from the bottom and make them feel like they're ready for the stage in no time.
Dalia July 14, 2015
Josh is very knowledgable about many musical styles and teaches in a way that makes things very understandable and applicable for students.

"Brian is one of the most gifted drummers I've ever met. His teaching style is extremely relaxed. Every time I meet with him, he puts me at ease. Brian
makes learning an instrument fun. His approach is direct and straight to the point. He's also very perceptive and focuses specifically on what he feels I am having trouble with the most. I have been taking lessons from Brian for over a year now, and I cannot believe how much I have grown as a musician. I am even playing in front of my friends now.
