*** Lesson Details ***
Being trained as a music therapist, my approach to lessons may differ from an ordinary music teacher. I make sure the wants and needs of the student are addressed in every lesson. Lessons are structured and implemented by me, but the student will be able to select their own material when given choices. Things I take into consideration are: age, attention span, short and long-term goals/objectives, ability, and determination. Beginning students are recommended to use Alfred Method Books. Each lesson will focus on fundamental theory, scales and technique, and lesson and recital repertoire.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a studio that includes: Kawaii K-18 upright piano, classical guitar, acoustic guitar, ukulele, and various percussion instruments. There is room for a parent to observe if they so choose, and a waiting room.

Brianna was a great teacher! I really liked how patient and thorough she was with every lesson. Brianna was able to tap into my daughters attention span in a way that really helped her grasp the concept of playing this instrument. Thank you Brianna!

Brianna is great with my son who is almost 5 years old. She teaches in a fun style, my son never looses attention. She thought him to write, read numbers and to be disciplined. I am really happy to see his growth in music.

George F.

Laguna Hills, CA

The guitar is a popular musical instrument classified as a string instrument with anywhere from 4 to 18 strings, usually having 6. The sound is projected either acoustically or through electrical amplification (for an acoustic guitar or an electric guitar, respectively). It is typically played by strumming or plucking the strings with the right hand while fretting (or pressing against the fret) the strings with the left hand. The guitar is a type of chordophone, traditionally constructed from wood and strung with either gut, nylon or steel strings and distinguished from other chordophones by its construction and tuning. The modern guitar was preceded by the gittern, the vihuela, the four-course Renaissance guitar, and the five-course baroque guitar, all of which contributed to the development of the modern six-string instrument.

There are three main types of modern acoustic guitar: the classical guitar (nylon-string guitar), the steel-string acoustic guitar, and the archtop guitar.

About George

Welcome

Music matters: A new philosophy of music education. Fun and to the point.

Music education is a field of study associated with the teaching and learning of music. It touches on all learning domains, including the psychomotor domain (the development of skills), the cognitive domain (the acquisition of knowledge), and, in particular and significant ways, the affective domain (the learner's willingness to receive, internalize, and share what is learned), including music appreciation and sensitivity. Music training from preschool through post-secondary education is common in most nati
ons because involvement with music is considered a fundamental component of human culture and behavior. Music, like language, is an accomplishment that distinguishes humans as a species.

The student will learn:

Music theory is the study of the practices and possibilities of music. The student will learn all the fundamental elements of music such as pitch, rhythm, harmony and form, but also refers to descriptions, concepts, or beliefs related to music.

Piano technic
Technic is the ability to execute a zillion different piano passages; therefore it is not dexterity, but an aggregate of many skills. These skills are acquired in two stages: (1) discovering how the fingers, hands, arms, etc., are to be moved, and (2) conditioning the brain, nerves, and muscles to execute these with ease and control.

Piano scales and modes

It's the theory behind that will help you understand things like for example chords. Playing scales can also be a great way to improving your technique. Because of the relationship of notes in certain scales they will always sound well played together. A fact that makes scales a primary foundation for everyone who wants to improvise on the instrument. This can be done just by playing the white keys as in the C Major scale or it can be more advanced by, for example, using modus for jazz improvisation. Therefore, you shouldn't consider scales as some boring and dull stuff – it can be your step up to a new level of playing.

Piano improvisation

Improvisation is the ability to make music as you are performing it. Much of improvisation is learning patterns or different note arrangements that you can then apply to songs that you already know. You will learn some patterns and arrangements that you can play with your left hand that can be added to any song to create more interesting sounding music. Some of these improvisation techniques are: chord inversions, the double chord pattern, the broken chord patternand the arpeggio chord pattern.

Electronic music is music that employs electronic musical instruments and electronic music technology in its production, an electronic musician being a musician who composes and/or performs such music. In general a distinction can be made between sound produced using electromechanical means and that produced using electronic technology.

DAW= Digital Audio Workstation. A term usually used to describe a PC or a Macintosh Computer that is used primarily for Music Creation and Recording, Mixing, and Mastering Audio Files. Found is many Home studios as well as Professional Recording Facilities.

Sound recording and reproduction is an electrical or mechanical inscription and re-creation of sound waves, such as spoken voice, singing, instrumental music, or sound effects. The two main classes of sound recording technology are analog recording and digital recording.

Audio post production
You will learn all stages of production between the actual recording in a studio and the completion of a master recording. It involves, sound design, sound editing, audio mixing, and the addition of effects.

Learn the music composition and sound effects for basic Video production (video game, film, TV and media)

Video production is the process of creating video by capturing moving images(videography), and creating combinations and reductions of parts of this video in live production and post-production (video editing).

Create and edit Sound effects (or audio effects) are artificially created or enhanced sounds, or sound processes used to emphasize artistic or other content of films, television shows, live performance, animation, video games, music, or other media.

Call for more information. If you want to learn guitar instead of piano all of the information methodology above for piano will be redirected to guitar teachings and methods.

I also will include rhythm and drums. Beacause is very important to make a good audio and video production the knowledge of rhythms.

See you in class.

Pierre L.

Mission Viejo, CA

About Pierre

Lessons are taught at YOUR HOME

Hi, my name is Pierre. I have enjoyed the music business for more than 30 years. My music education includes studies at the Swiss Jazz School in Switzerland and the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

I have been a music coach in Switzerland, in Los Angeles, in Long Beach, and since 2009 in the Mission Viejo area. During the 2009 / 2010 school year I was a music coach for the Saddleback Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) in South Orange County. I have also been a member of numerous groups, including Original bands, Top40, Tribute, Recording and Perfo
rming bands. Please do not hesitate to ask for references!

I teach students age 9 and up.

*** Lesson Details ***
Here is some information on what you can expect if you decide to take lessons with me:

You will start learning songs and play along with them within 3-5 lessons. After 3 months you will have knowledge of the basics. At the 6 month mark you will start to get comfortable with your instrument and after a year you will have built a solid foundation on which you can expand into any musical direction of your choice.

I teach beginner to advanced depending on the instrument, and ages 9 and up are welcome! My customized lessons are based on the student's abilities. Lessons can be held at your home in the vicinity of Mission Viejo. Learn songs and music theory, melodies, harmonizing, rhythm, syncopation, solfege, songwriting, arrangement, reading and writing music notation. I can also help you with singing and recording your songs. If you wish, I can also teach your lessons in German or French.

Music styles: Rock, Pop, Folk, Latin, Jazz, Swing, Reggae, Funk, and much more.

Teaching style: I like to use humor to make the learning experience enjoyable. I adjust to the student's learning speed. My philosophy when it comes to teaching and music: Everyone can learn an instrument and enjoy that knowledge for the rest of their life!

Guitar (for example): Always work with books. Teach simple chords, rhythms and songs at first. Then move to more difficult chords and songs, and TAB reading. Then I keep increasing the level of difficulty as the student progresses. Then start teaching sight reading with standard music notation. When practicing songs, we play along to music. Similar teaching style for other instruments.

I'm a new student.

I recently started taking piano lessons for the first time at the age of 65. Pierre has been very encouraging and patient. He has also been very professional, and has even been flexible when my schedule has conflicted with our lessons, allowing me to reschedule when necessary. I am enjoying this very much, and that has much to do with Pierre.

Great teacher!

Pierre is by far the best music teacher I've come across. I used several other teachers before Pierre, and none of them were able to take me to the level Pierre has. He's very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and patient, but best of all, he's a lot of fun. He has the perfect blend of making the lessons challenging and informative, and at the same time enjoyable. His love for music is infectious, and my appreciation for music has grown tremendously since working with him. I can't recommend him enough!

Pierre Rules!

Pierre is the raddest music teacher I've ever had. He's always on time, always prepared, and always ready to have a great time on any instrument. His sense of humor is great and he makes learning even the most difficult songs fun. Since he can play any instrument, you'll always have someone to play along with. He has a deep love for all kinds of music, which is the best quality in a musician, teacher, and drummer. I can't recommend Pierre enough. He's given me the confidence, both musically and personally, to drum in a band, Hearing Damage. THIS DUDE RULES!!!

Becky is awesome. My job takes away most of my time and because of that I haven't been able to be very regular in attending all sessions. She had been very patient with me and adjusted the pace as needed for a student like me. She is an enthusiastic teacher and I would recommend Becky as the first guitar teacher for students of all ages. Keep rocking Becky!

Susan S.

Mission Viejo, CA

About Susan

I have been performing since the age of three. At the age of seven, I began classical vocal lessons. At 8, I wrote the school song for Cherry Creek Elementary School in Marquette, Michigan. When I was 10, I entered and won the Grand Supreme title at my first pageant. When I was 13, I moved my vocal training at the local University becoming the youngest classical vocal student. After years of participating in musical theatre productions, I landed a job in a guitar shop that lead to a big shift in my musical interests. I left my small town, the theatre and my classical background behind and bega
n fronting both Country and Rock bands, even singing along side Juice Newton, The Oak Ridge Boys, Glen Campbell, Sugarland, and Trick Pony on stage at the Porterfield Country Music Festival in 2005, which has in years past drawn nationally known country music artists such as Johnny Cash, Charlie Daniels, and Loretta Lynn. At age 19, I had an acoustic act which landed me a guest spot on 'The Tyra Banks Show.' I have been a featured performer at Chicago's House of Blues, as well as some of the most popular hotspots in Wrigleyville.
In most recent years, I have been behind the scenes as a vocal coach in the greater Chicago area. I moved to Mission Viejo, California recently, and look forward to meeting new students! I have four children, my youngest daughter has Down syndrome so I'm also partial to working with students with special needs.
I'm really excited to add that offer lessons online through TakeLessons! It's a great thing to get to work with students all over this country and I'm looking forward to help pioneer the future of music lessons!

*** Lesson Details ***
Whether you are looking to learn to project, or how to make it through an entire show without blowing your voice--I'm your gal! As long as students exhibit a willingness to try and to learn, then I'm more than willing to go the extra mile in my teaching. I just want to see genuine effort. Because I cater to all experience levels, I like to focus on individual goals of the student and build on those.

The biggest thing that I hope to give my students, is confidence. Whether or not music becomes a career for them, or just something to help get them through their day-- my goal is to show them that they can learn something new, they can accomplish things that they never thought they could do, they can sing for friends, join a band, play a challenging song, sing the high note they never thought they'd hit. If I can, anyone can. It's not about being perfect. Being perfect is overrated. It's about the passion behind the performance.

With that said, it's also about practice. Practicing builds the skills needed to keep that confidence alive. Then the more confidence you have, the more you say-- "Let's go for it. Let's try," the more you'll learn and the more skills you'll build. They feed off of each other. One can't survive long without the other.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Simple PA set-up.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide everything. If there is a particular piece that you want to work on that I don't have, I ask that you provide that.

*** Specialties ***
Classically trained, but I've also done a lot of musical theatre and have a strong background there. I do play guitar and bass, specializing in rock/folk and pop styles. I've taken tap and jazz from the age of 3 until I was 17 to help with Musical Theatre performance.

Suzie is extremely knowledgeable

Suzie is an amazing teacher! I am so impressed with her knowledge of music! In just the short time I've been taking voice lessons I can feel my voice getting stronger. She has taught me the correct way of breathing, projecting and standing. She's always giving me positive feedback, which is so helpful. I would recommend Suzie to anyone who is serious about taking voice lessons!

Susan is an amazing teacher

I haven't had too many classes with Susan but already I feel more confident in my voice. She has taught me so much about the correct way to breathe and the way to keep the right tone while you sing. I thought that taking lessons with someone over skype wouldn't be very effective but I was totally wrong because Susan is so prepared and sends you warm ups and also instrumental music for the song you are going to work on before your lesson. She makes sure to give positive comments as well as critiques so you won't feel uncomfortable or feel like you're a bad singer. I am so happy that I picked Susan and I would recommend her to anyone!!
