Mitchel B.

Toledo, OH

Students studying any instrument will be given frequent opportunity to perform for the public at a variety of venues. In addition to the practice of performance, students will be coached through strategies for the improvement of their music performance.

About Mitchel

Hello Students and Parents,

I have been playing several instruments since I was very young, and am excited to share my passion for music with you! I have recently graduated from the Michigan State University College of Music, currently teach music at several public schools, and play in local ensembles.

I have been very fortunate to tour the United States as a drummer with multiple ensembles including The Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps, the Michigan State University Percussion Studio, and the Plymouth Canton Educational Park Drumline.

I love all genres of music. Sometimes I feel that I h
ave no choice but to blast my favorite hip-hop or electronic tunes while on the go. Other days, I immerse myself in the exploration of technique and emotion while perfecting some of Beethoven's late piano compositions.

I spend much of my personal time on artistic ventures such as practicing, performing, drawing, playing poi, and going to concerts. The truth is, music is such a diverse art form that the inspirations and opportunities are endless.

Thanks for checking out my page! I hope that we can start making music together soon.

*** Lesson Details ***
We'll take our first lesson easy with a discussion of your musical goals. I'll want to know things about you such as:
Why are you interested in music lessons?
What music do you like to listen to and what music do you want to play?
Do you have any past experience? Or is this a fresh start?
Do you know of any strengths and weaknesses?

After this, we will begin a regiment that is as personalized as possible. My goal is for you to reach your goals while having fun and working hard. My teachers have always told me that you will take from your lessons what you put into your lessons. I am just as happy teaching the laid back hobby musician, as I am coaching the next Mozart who practices nonstop.

My teaching style comes from a variety of influences. I used to be the student of Drum Corps instructors who had the highest standards for commitment and discipline. Now, I myself work with many special needs students who are exploring art as an emotional outlet, rather than a way of getting a trophy. All in all, I will always do my best to insure that you are on the right path towards reaching your goals.

My son has really enjoyed his lessons with Mitch and he thinks Mitch is a great teacher. "He keeps it challenging and you learn different things each time" (building on past material). Mitch has also encouraged my son when he has thought out of the box, such as designing his own rhythms or drumming on various surfaces such as buckets. He meets my son where he is at and encourages him to grow from there.

As a parent, I have found Mitch to be extremely professional. He is prompt, or if on the rare occasion is running late, he calls to let us know. He is flexible with scheduling and very easy to work with. It has been a wonderful experience for us so far, and my son is really enjoying his lessons.

About Carrie

I've been teaching and performing professionally for over 10 years. I have my BA in music and business. I have had some amazing experiences along the way. I've worked with world renowned vocal coaches, sang at Carnegie Hall, and played on various cds to raise money/awareness for charity projects. I'm grateful for all of this, but I love working with students on their music most of all. It delights me to see a student have an "aha" moment where they realize that they have what it takes to be great. I'd love to work with you, but if I don't I hope you reach your goals and have fun doin

I'm a laid back teacher but you will definitely learn a lot. I just believe if it starts to not be fun, what's the point? Music isn't just about perfect theory and note placement it's about enjoyment. That's why I tailor make every lesson specifically based on my student's goals. I have students that like a more traditional approach so I use standard method books with them. I also have students that want to learn how to play by ear so we use a less traditional method and I teach them chord structures and how to move around easily on their instrument. My favorite thing to teach is vocal lessons but I love teaching piano and guitar also.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught in a separate music room in the home with an 88 key weighted keyboard. Guitars and amps. Student should bring own guitar. No pets. Waiting room out front for parents. Pull to the back of Freedom Point's Parking Lot to find me !

*** Travel Equipment ***
They need their own instrument.

*** Specialties ***
I've performed at Carnegie Hall and I've had the opportunity to work with world renowned vocal coaches. I offer that as well as techniques that I've developed to help you reach your goals quickly and with great skill !

Carrie is a wonderful instructor with my teenage daughter. She has the right teaching skills to push her when needed and has her always reaching for more. Her variety of instructing skills is what makes her great. She makes the lessons fun, beneficial and full of challenges. I would recommend her to everyone. My daughter has been going to her for almost 1 full year now and the difference is amazing. Besides her singing her confidence with stage and performing has exceeded my expectations. Thank you Carrie!!!

Music Criticism: How To Handle a Critical Audience
Years ago, I heard my first band would be featured in the local paper and I was so excited to read the article. I hurried home to read it and found that the short blurb was far from complimentary. A public critique like that can make you want to give up. I certainly wanted to hide under my bed for a week! However, I have learned how to handle criticism and continued to make music that makes me happy. In the time since then, I have been lucky enough to receive both criticism and positive revie
