Kendra W.

Tallahassee, FL

A solid technical foundation is non-negotiable. No matter what genre may interest you, you'll learn the basics of breath, vowel, and diction to start. From there, I encourage my students to explore many genres of music and guide them in negotiating each. Often, a student of mine will be learning a Taylor Swift song right alongside a classical Italian art song! My hope for every student is that they will find confidence in their own unique voice and learn how to use it to its full potential.

About Kendra

Having recently moved to the Tallahassee area, I am excited to be accepting new students!

I have an MM in voice and a BM in music education from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. While living in Rochester, I helped over 100 students of all ages explore their musical potential and develop their skill sets. Whether their goals have been to learn basic skills, brush up long-forgotten childhood lessons, or pursue music professionally, I have guided my students towards success and lifelong learning with a patient, diligent hand.

Many have gone onto perform on Broadway, National Tours, and regionally, with companies including the Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre, the Actors' Playhouse, Stagedoor Manor, the Area Stage Company, and Orchestra Miami, where one student made his professional debut in the title role of Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors. Justin provides an outstanding and quality brand of instruction aswell as a comfortable and focused environment in which to learn, work collaboratively, and take risks when in a musical theatre workshop or lesson. When being vocally warmed up, Justin notices the quality of your voice for that day or time of day and uses different warm ups to accomadate your vocal needs. When working with Justin I am always discovering new things and pushing my limts with his unique mix of practicing material, learning new material, and then coorelating that material into discussions about the business aspect of musical theatre. Justin is not only a fantastic and highly recommeded teacher for me, but has become a mentor and role model to me of what a successful and prolific working actor should be.

I started taking lessons with justin in 2012. At the time I had never taken any vocal training (I was 21), and Justin helped me tremendously in learning how to use my voice. He instilled a great respect for the fundamentals in me, and has always been a generous and helpful presence. I stringly recommend him to anyone looking for a strong and knowledgable instructor.

About Akiyla

Music is my eudemonia, as well as, my asylum. I have come to personally know and enamor its therapeutic benefits. It has inspired me to develop personally and academically. *** Lesson Details ***
The first step will be evaluating the student's musical and technical skill level, then I build a curriculum from that point. As an example, a beginning student would learn how to read music, play basic rhythms, use proper left and right hand technique, and the notes in the first position on individual strings. After I have evaluated the current level of the student and their musical interest, I will begin to move my curriculum around their various needs.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I will have a music stand for you to use at your lesson. I require the student to have their own instrument so that they may practice outside of their lesson.

I recommend Phillip as a guitar teacher.

Besides being a very skilled guitarist, Phillip is very professional and reliable. He has a very laid back personality which really worked well for my shy 7-year-old daughter. He was patient and encouraging.

I know my students love to sing as much as I do, so I put the experience of a 25 year vocal career at my students' disposal. We discuss your goals during the first lesson and I structure a plan to teach you what you need to know to reach those goals. Plan on gaining more control over your voice and hearing the difference the very first day! Lessons with me are informative, task-oriented, yet fun, because we are all singing for the joy of it!

About Lisa

Lisa Lorenzo holds a music degree from Florida State University (voice principle) and has been singing professionally, teaching voice, and arranging vocal harmonies since 1990. Vocal performance styles include jazz, blues, country, pop, gospel, show, and rock.
Awards include an Outstanding Jazz Soloist Award. Lisa has sung for Royal Caribbean cruise lines, opened for Charlie Daniels and Bill Cosby and toured throughout the U.S.
She has sung for advertising jingles on WOW 104.3 Dunnellon, FL, and for "Bright Start Music" by Darcy Walworth, PhD. and continues to sing for special events.

Lisa Lorenzo combines the sensitivity of a music therapist (MT-BC, NICU MT) with the seasoned experience of a veteran singer, musician and teacher. Her thorough knowledge of the voice will help vocal students of any level improve, protect, and preserve their own voice while benefitting from her real-life musical experience in an encouraging and positive environment.
