About Justin

Winner of The 2015 American Prize in Voice - Chicago Musical Theater Award, American tenor Justin John Moniz, has earned great acclaim for his “comic chops and huge voice”. Lauded by the South Florida Classical Review as a "superb high tenor" and a "vocal standout", his "refined" work has also been praised by the Miami Herald and Cape Cod Times. His unique style and versatility has afforded him an active career in concert, opera and musical theatre.

Mr. Moniz’s students have been praised by the Miami Herald for their ability to bring “a veteran performer’s assurance and personality” to the
stage. Many have gone onto perform on Broadway, National Tours, and regionally, with companies including the Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre, the Actors' Playhouse, Stagedoor Manor, the Area Stage Company, and Orchestra Miami, where one student made his professional debut in the title role of Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors. Justin provides an outstanding and quality brand of instruction aswell as a comfortable and focused environment in which to learn, work collaboratively, and take risks when in a musical theatre workshop or lesson. When being vocally warmed up, Justin notices the quality of your voice for that day or time of day and uses different warm ups to accomadate your vocal needs. When working with Justin I am always discovering new things and pushing my limts with his unique mix of practicing material, learning new material, and then coorelating that material into discussions about the business aspect of musical theatre. Justin is not only a fantastic and highly recommeded teacher for me, but has become a mentor and role model to me of what a successful and prolific working actor should be.

I started taking lessons with justin in 2012. At the time I had never taken any vocal training (I was 21), and Justin helped me tremendously in learning how to use my voice. He instilled a great respect for the fundamentals in me, and has always been a generous and helpful presence. I stringly recommend him to anyone looking for a strong and knowledgable instructor.

Lessons will consist of learning to sight reading, scales, learning chords, some music theory, and learning to playing songs chosen by the instructor, as well as, songs that the student wishes to learn.

About Akiyla

Music is my eudemonia, as well as, my asylum. I have come to personally know and enamor its therapeutic benefits. It has inspired me to develop personally and academically. On innumerable occasions, when I was privileged with the opportunity to perform, I continuously saw the relief and the elation that the music was bringing to people. As Bob Marley once said, “One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” Consequently, I sought out to make it my life’s goal to use music therapeutically to replenish lives. I aspire to do this by naturally leveraging my adoration for m
usic, expanding my knowledge and experiences in music, and ultimately becoming an education leader/practitioner in music therapy. I graduate from Florida A & M University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, with a concentration in classical voice. During my undergraduate year I proudly served as the following leadership positions in my 80 plus concert choir as the President, Vice President, soprano section and assistant section leader. I am also a sister of the cherish sisterhood Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity inc. Currently I am a Graduate student at Florida State University aspiring to obtain my masters in music therapy. With my love, dedication and discipline for my profession I am certain that my students will benefit significantly as we build upon their musicianship.

My students can expect to have fun while still incorporating discipline. All students will learn different styles and techniques from various styles of music to expand their musical talents and knowledge. I love helping those over 18 enjoy piano whether for the very first time or just brushing up on almost forgotten skills. Come on, let's have some fun with piano.

About Angela

I started writing and voicing radio commercials very young, as well as singing in a church choir. Creative writing and singing were my first loves. This was followed by playing piano and studying psychology. Now I apply my skills and talents to a broad range of interests and income sources. I truly believe that life is an adventure and we must never limit ourselves. We must be adventurous and willing to think outside the box and try many new things.
