I have been teaching acting for twelve years. My goal is for you to create honest work. I will gear you to the choices that are right for the piece. I am very honest in my approach but I work in a positive manner. I will always tell you what is working and what still needs to be worked upon. As a teacher, I may ask you to reflect on your own life experiences, imagine scenarios, or improvise. I use the Stanislavsky method of acting which asks 'What does your character want?'

Amelia was great. She provided excellent instruction, adapted to my style of learning and gave me a targeted plan to help me improve my acting skills throughout the course of my lessons. As a beginner, I couldn't have asked for a better teacher for my introduction to the world of acting.

I have taught and directed for 30 years in NY and DC. From lesson 1, students engage with a dynamic approach to acting through Meisner-based improv. During the 1st 12 weeks, we go from basic truthful acting to dynamic scene work, followed by 12 weeks of in-depth scene study, then extensive character training and in-depth film and audition technique. My students are successful in film, theater, commercials and TV in DC, NY and LA.

About Robert
I have taught acting for over 30 years based in the Meisner Technique, and I write and direct my own plays and films. I have years of experience as an actor, jazz saxophone player, singer and poet, as well as a philosophy degree, which I bring to my understanding of acting. I use this rich background to focus on the creativity, intelligence and improvisational abilities of each student in their acting process. I know what it takes to walk into any acting situation ready to play the role. My goal is to create actors who enjoy their work and can act skillfully in film, theater, tv and auditio
ns. I emphasize character work in the program, an important and often neglected part of the acting process. I have cast my advanced students in my original projects in the DC area, and most recently directed my original play, "The Big A: Scenes from a Vanishing Landscape" for the 2014 DC Fringe Festival.

Get prepped for your first audition! Learn to recite and memorize monologues, how to slate (the introduction you give at the beginning of an audition), how to be confident on the stage, and really get into your character!

My students have achieved admission into Berklee College of Music in Boston, lead roles in their school plays such as Peter Pan and Into the Woods, and new levels of confidence and vocal technique that have made them the stars of their local talent shows and concerts!
I am a vocal and performance coach with over 10 years of experience singing, acting, and dancing on stage in bands, in professional musical theater, and in voice competitions.

I love bringing the joy and beauty of acting to others and I can guarantee you'll leave our lessons with results beyond what you had thought possible.

About Orla
Hi there!

My name is Orla and I love singing and teaching others to sing! I began my vocal training at the age of 12 learning how to sing classical and musical theater music. I eventually went on to learn jazz and rock vocal techniques before going to Berklee College of Music in Boston where I learned how to sing celtic music and alternative contemporary styles.

The most important thing to me when working with singers of any age or ability is helping them learn the correct techniques to keep their voices safe and healthy while singing. With this strong foundation, my students will be ab
le to achieve almost any style or level of singing they desire. It is totally possible to stretch your vocal range, learn a new style, or incorporate movement into your songs if you simply use the correct and healthy vocal techniques!
I also make sure to focus a lot on confidence and stage presence to help students prepare for upcoming auditions, showcases, concerts, and talent shows. With my voice lessons it is absolutely possible to transition out of your stage fright and own that stage like you were born to be there, because you were!! These are not only vocal coaching sessions, but complete performance-ready-workshops.
I am here to make all your singing and vocal performance dreams come true! I can't wait to sing with you :)

Orla was my student at Berklee for 2 years and in that time I saw her grow tremendously as a performer, educator, entrepreneur, composer, and more! In addition to being a phenomenal musician, she is a very kind and patient person who is very well equipped to handle a wide variety of students and teaching scenarios. I highly recommend Orla and vouch for her skills completely.

Acting Tips: What's in your Toolbox?
As with any profession, actors have tools. Just as a doctor needs a stethoscope or a fireman needs a hose, there are certain items an actor must keep in their toolbox. I usually start classes or lessons by asking my new students or clients what they think these tools might be. Sometimes, the answer is very literal ("Script!"), and other times abstract ("Passion!"). None of these is a wrong answer. Being an actor or artist is subjective and everyone's process is different and valid. But th
