I have taught singing and the done the choreography for Mary Poppins, West Side Story and Annie. These were for kids 11 - 17 yrs of age.
*** Travel Equipment *** Hand Percussion instruments such as maracas, clave, guiro, castanets, snapping, hand clapping. *** Specialties *** I believe the student should have an idea of the genre of music they would like to study. With that in mind...the piece, composition that they are trying to perfect should be presented to me. Then we can understand where the problem lies. Is it stage fright, breathing, timing, tone of the voice, fingering on the piano, or which challenge? This we will see what needs to be addressed.
30 years of musical theater
I have been involved in music all of my life. As a child I played trumpet in band and sang in school and church choirs. My favorite movies were musicals and they still are my favorite. Music was my major in college, which included singing, dancing, acting and playing musical instruments. I like all types of music. As a school teacher, I taught 3rd. grade through high school, everything from band and choir to musical theater. I also taught private students, of all ages, piano, guitar, voice and most of the wind instruments. *** Lesson Details *** My students can expect to learn the basics of music theory, such as melody, harmony, key signature and rhythm. I want my students to have fun by learning the kind of music they like best while learning to appreciate the kind of music that ...
With 20 years of broadway singing and a focus in it throughout her career, Liz loves sharing her vocal training with her students, and this is one of her favorite subjects to teach!
After graduating California Institute of the Arts with a multi-focus on several aspects of music including African dance, Indonesian gamelan, songwriting, recording, classical voice and piano, folk guitar, and more, Liz had the excellent opportunity to teach theater to a local musical theater summer youth program. All summer, she taught class sizes ranging from 10 to 26 students of the ages 5-10. Her initiative later led to being hired at this local community theater. Along with this theater teaching experience, she has been teaching piano, guitar, ukulele, flute & voice lessons for over 9 years. Her students have gone from knowing nothing about music to learning and performing entire pieces on their own as well as even auditioning & for agents and becoming signed artists in Los Angeles. ...
I like to teach the student the music that they want to learn. Every student is unique, not only in their abilities and learning styles, but in what they want to achieve, and even why they want to take lessons in the first place.
There are three primary areas in which I would like to see every student improve: Musicality, Technique, and Repertoire. Depending on a student's needs and desires, one of these might receive more or less emphasis (and lesson time) than the others. However, I strive to help my students continually improve in all three areas.
While many teachers have a particular method with which they are comfortable, teaching all of their students out of the same set of books, I prefer to approach the teaching of each student separately. I strive to design an individualized lesson plan for each and every student, helping them develop the specific skills they require while playing the music they love!
I am here to help you reach your goals, not my own. As such, ...
