I have a degree in Music (Vocal Performance) and Psychology from Mt. St. Mary's College in Los Angeles, Ca. After taking a break to have 5 of my own children, I now teach children and adults how to make the most out of their voice. I still perform on stage locally. I just finished the role of "Domina" in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." Other recent roles include "The Witch" in "Big Fish the Musical", "Kala" in "Tarzan the Stage Musical" and just before that "Judy" in "9 to 5 the musical". I have been directing choir and also performing solos for the last 20 years in my local church. I currently have 50 plus private students ages 4-53! My area of concentration is musical theater, but I can teach all genres. *** Lesson Details *** During a typical lesson we cover ...
As a counselor and teacher who has worked with thousands of children, youth and women, I put forth great effort and emphasis on building self-esteem and confidence. I do this by teaching such vocal techniques as singing in pitch, increasing lung capacity, breath control, placement, phrasing, annunciation, dynamics and exercises that will strengthen and stretch your vocal cords in a healthy productive way, so that you can produce luscious high notes, velvety low notes and everything in between!

Sara is an established voice and piano teacher in the New York City Area. She is a thoughtful and dedicated instructor with nearly a decade of teaching experience, and her students range from beginners to professionals. I have been teaching this subject for over 13 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Music is not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it may be selected from the western classical, musical theatre, and popular rep based on the student's goals and learning needs with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

I wish I had taken lessons with my teacher when I first started playing! It would have saved me years of searching for ways to make my playing better! Because we are unique individuals, each of us requires a different catalyst to ignite the fire of learning. It has been my privilege and honor to seek out this mechanism in each student which creates interest in progressive learning on their instrument of choice. I would be happy to multiply your practice time by helping you find more direct ways to accomplish the level of succes you seek.
