Francine V.

Rocklin, CA

About Francine

I have been teaching music for over 3 years now. I took lessons all my life. Started with piano at age 6 and flute at age 11. I have a child development degree and a teaching credential. I love working with students of all ages and levels.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach by example. So any song I expect my students to play, I play first. This way they know how it should sound. I help students learn to practice by having them play measure by measure, often over and over.

Often I play with the students so they can perfect the rhythms and timing. We spend time talking about key signatures
, time signatures, dynamics and performance skills, technique and tone.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a piano in my studio at Nicholson's Music store in Folsom, at CB Music studios in Roseville, and in my home in Rocklin.

Must bring your own flute.

David M.

Carmichael, CA

About David

I have been a working musician and occasional private music teacher for over 40 years. During that time I had a career in the professional audio and video industry, during which I learned how to successfully deal with people. I recently returned to school and completed a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree at CSU Sacramento. My goal is to bring excitement and enthusiasm for music and playing an instrument to my students, and to create musicians who will make and enjoy music throughout their lives. I play guitar, bass guitar and flute, and enjoy teaching all of them to all age groups.

*** Lesson Details ***
Playing music is supposed to be fun. Lessons include playing, so they should be fun as well. My lessons are both focused and fun. I believe you get out of music what you put in. If a student doesn't practice in between lessons, I will know. If a student does practice, I will know that as well. My lessons stress not only what to practice, but how. In 3-6 months, the beginning student can expect to be able to make a pleasing sound on the instrument, and be able to play beginning repertoire. Most importantly, the student will be able to play well enough to enjoy the instrument, which inevitably leads to more productive practice and continued improvement. This continued improvement is what lessons are all about.

*** Travel Equipment ***
If I travel to a student's home, I will bring my instrument only. I expect the student to provide all other equipment necessary for the lesson.

*** Specialties ***
Folk guitar, rock and roll and blues bass, classical flute, analog and digital recording

Amanda C.

Davis, CA

I've had many years of experience performing in small and large ensembles and leading flute sectionals. You will learn the fun that music can bring while we work towards your goals of making music and learning a new instrument. I also enjoy incorporating duets in my lessons and focus on building the fundamentals. Let's enjoy making music together!

About Amanda

I have always been passionate about helping other people. Although I haven't always been interested in teaching, tutoring others, and helping people in a one-on-one setting is something I do best. I find that on an individual basis, I can discover your strengths and build upon them to help you be the best learner you can be.
As a tutor, I believe that every student can learn, regardless of what the current struggle is. I use humor and encouragement to help my students learn the material and encourage my students to "practice" the material we reviewed in our sessions using any method they enjo
y, because I feel that part of my job as a tutor is to help my students develop their internal motivation.
I have experience working with both children and adults. I graduated from UCLA in 2012 with a degree in Linguistics and Spanish and am currently a grad student at UC Davis studying Linguistics. I also have a TEFL Certificate from UC Irvine, and spent 2 years living in Taiwan.

About Sue

Learning the flute is a great way to explore your creativity. Flute is the one wind instrument with amazing versatility and expression. It is as comfortable in an orchestra as a jazz band.

Do you or a child you know want to learn how to play flute, recorder, baroque flute, or even piccolo? I love to teach and can help you on your or your child's path to further your music education.

I began playing the flute when I was 10 and started teaching while I was still a high school student. I started playing flute professionally as a teenager and now I have over 30 years of experience in teac
hing and performing.

I teach students of all ages. I specialize in personalized, tailored instruction with a strong commitment to making the process of learning music simple and straightforward. Each student has a unique learning style and I work with each student within their style. Your lessons are designed for YOU, whether beginner, intermediate, or advanced. Your lesson pace, curriculum, and progress are based on your strengths and learning style.

I am by vocation a musician specializing in performing and teaching flute. I have taught flute and played professionally in the greater Sacramento area, as well as in SLC, Utah and Reno, NV.

Flute · In studio
Our daughter has taken flute lessons from Sue for 3 years. These private lessons have provided our daughter with an excellent musical foundation and allowed her to develop skill in playing the flute. Sue has been very flexible in scheduling (when our busy schedule creates conflict). Most importantly, Sue has been supportive and relaxed in her teaching style to allow our very shy daughter to feel comfortable and confident in the lessons.

Sue was a great teacher, even though I only studied with her for a little more than a year. I think I was right up there with one of her favorite "hopeless causes." I started lesson with Sue when I was 65 years old, with absolutely no music background. I so regret that I didn't find Sue and undertake flute when I was much younger. She tried, and was pretty patient, but I think I was pretty hopeless.

Sue's teaching methods are multiple - level. She is inspiring and playful. She is my third music instrument teacher (after 8 years of piano & another 8 years of violin lesson), I learned something brand new about flute and music principles.

Her rate is extremely reasonable especially considering how professional and diligent a teacher she is.

I am very grateful to be guided to her when I was looking for a flute teacher.
