Mike F.

Arlington, TX

We will cover in each lesson Drum Set, Music Theory, Rudiments, Technique, Timing and Feel, Mallet Percussion, and Scales. I will also custom tailor lessons for each individual student depending on their goals and needs.

About Mike

Music is my life and air. I started playing the drums when I was 12 years old. I played in every band and music ensemble I could throughout junior high, high school, and college. I have played in bands outside of school with music styles ranging from Rock, Punk, Hardcore, Metal, and Hip Hop. Since 2008, I have been teaching private drum set lessons and marching percussion to students of all ages and backgrounds, including Special Needs.

Recently, I attended the University of Texas at Arlington where I furthered my education in music teaching, music theory, performance, and percussion. I a
m also an experienced Djembe and Didgeridoo performer. Teaching and encouraging others in music comes naturally to me, and my degree in Music Business supports knowing how to prepare lessons and curriculum so students succeed.

*** Lesson Details ***
I love what I do and want my students to be excited not only to take lessons with me, but excited to go home and practice to further their skills as well. My lessons are focused and adaptable to the needs of each student. I have a wide range of teaching materials, equipment, and a personal library of method books for students to view and use. I do expect and encourage my students to practice at least 5 minutes a day. You will be amazed at how effective this is and how 5 minutes usually turns into 30 minutes of solid enjoyable practice.

*** Studio Equipment ***
DW drumset, single and double pedal, practice pads, Vic Firth Bell Kit, Boom Whackers, hand drums, and a personal library of method books.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Sticks, books, DW practice pad drum set, snare practice pads, music stand, and a laptop for references of appropriate drum videos/music.

My 11 year old son absolutely loves taking lessons from Mike. I really respect the fact that Mike actually talks with my son and listens to what he has to say. It was obvious during the first lesson that Mike was extremely knowledgeable, organized and cared for his students. Above all else, my son enjoys his lessons and actually looks forward to learning more from him. With so many options out there, we are lucky to have found Mike....

Gerson R.

Irving, TX

Work on techniques with hands and feet. Teach on how to read music in drums and to learn many different rhythms and to increase the develop the students playing ability.

About Gerson

Hey guys, my name is Gerson born and raised in Irving, TX. I am from the DFW area. I was introduce to drums at a very young age in my early pre-teen life. I've been playing drums for over eight years right now. I grew up playing at my church and seeing myself grow there. As the years gone by I was introduce to a great global drummer in the Christian market name Keith Banks. Were I went to learn more about drums at Christ For The Nations Institute. Then after that I played and travel with many worship bands around the DFW area and around the US. After that I went to study music theory and jazz,
at North Lake College were it help me grow even more as musician. I was thought by a great jazz drummer name Gene Glover who played in the 1 o-clock bad at North Texas and many more jazz artist. Right now I am playing drums at my home church Iglesia Envagelica Bethel in Irving TX, and currently touring and playing drums for Denis Campos.

*** Lesson Details ***
I have a vision where I see my student take his drumming to a level where he can never imagine. I am a very laid back person, I never want to pressure a student or make them feel uncomfortable at any time. The curriculum that I use includes basic drums notations and time signatures which is by Mark Wessels A Fresh Approach to the Snare Drum. If the student practices consistently they will understand how drums can relate to the music learning how to keep time and be a great pocket drummer, and develop their foot speed and hands.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio Lessons are in the garage which includes carpet, recording studio, drums, bass, guitars, mics, and seating. No pets. Parking on the side or street.

*** Travel Equipment ***
They should have a metronome a drum set, sticks, practice pad and a notebook. I usually bring my sticks and sometimes cymbals if they don't have any. The student needs to provide a full drum kit if he or she does not want to use a practice pad.

*** Specialties ***
I like to get connected with the student make him feel comfortable. The styles that I teach is in Latin jazz. Progressive and contemporary also funk and gospel.

We met up with Gerson at Murphy's Music in Irving for our drum lessons. Gerson is as he describes himself, "very laid back and easy going". I would add that he was always professional and knows when to challenge and help his student grow.
He will make you feel at ease and meet you at whatever level you are at.
You can tell he has a great passion for music and why he makes it his chosen profession. We found him to be very reliable and yet flexible should schedules change.

Billy H.

Arlington, TX

I have mostly taught beginner drummers to get the basics down. -separating the limbs to work independently - rudiments - basic beats and grooves used in popular music - and how to read it and write it on paper if you are interested.

also - "how to count" ...and "understanding song structure"

I have also worked with a few excellent, established drummers on "what to play in the studio" and how to be a good session player...how to be consistent and simplify.... etc

About Billy

I teach my students how to understand how music is put together so they can learn even more on their own.

I read, write, and play all styles and I focus on teaching the student fundamentals that work in all styles of music ....AND I get them going on the style they are interested in - pop, rock, country, folk, etc.

I have spent my entire life in the music industry and I can show you how to use what I teach to apply to the real world. I have also been a successful songwriter and I can work with students to learn about song structure and song writing.

I am also good at preparing studen
ts for college music classes.

*** Lesson Details ***
I like to break it down into small steps and accomplish them, then move on to the next.

Each person learns differently and I am good at connecting with how you learn - then we can use a book or CD or not according to your needs.

I have several books to choose from as well as CDs and other tools. BUT .....some things are learned best through 1 on 1 instruction and explanation without a book.

I like to see progress every week and I usually do.

*** Studio Equipment ***
recording studio in home w/ seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student needs instrument only to start and discuss from there.
I have many tuners, metronomes, props, books, etc

*** Specialties ***
I teach using modern popular songs as vehicles but back up examples with theory and some reading and ear training.
I usually get quick results and my students can understand the music as well as play it.

Max P.

North Richland Hills, TX

Full drum kit lessons can consist of basic rock beats all the way to metal blast or even hip hop funk. It all depends on the student. Muscle building techniques will be practiced along with metronome skill sets. Cover songs will help get the student familiar with new technique along with flexibility on the kit. Basic note reading will be included along with knowledge of basic music theory and show presences when behind the kit. Loads of fun waiting to happen!

About Max

I have been playing guitar for about 5 years and drumming for 3. When it comes to teaching I want to make the hour seem like 20 minutes making the lesson as fun and attainable as possible. Exercises should never be dull and boring, you learn the most when your enjoying the moment. Currently I am a drummer in a band, Warriors of Terra, and we are getting ready to record our album. I've been apart of shows all over Fort Worth and Dallas and I've gotten a good taste of what the industry is really like, all knowledge will be included in lessons! Lets get started and have some fun making music!

Quamon F.

Fort Worth, TX

We will approach developing skills on the drums in two categories, sticking techniques and grooves. Each lessons we will go over sticking patterns and learn a groove that corresponds with the sticking. Grooves will cover various genres like Rock, R&B/Neo Soul, Gospel, Jazz, Latin - Jazz.

About Quamon

I've been playing saxophone for over 20 years and hold a degree in music performance. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of traveling and performing as a professional along with being recognized for various awards for my improvisational and compositional skills. I've released 5 CD's of my own which showcase a lot of my original music. One of my targets in helping students is to help bring out what they already have inside their soul. I had great teachers that helped me to better express what I was hearing and imagining inside, and I want to pour into my students out of the abundance
of what I've received from my teachers in addition to my own personal experience in the area of music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I like to start out by breaking down how I look at music from the stand point of it having two sides, a technical side & a conceptual side.

The technical side deals with all of the mechanical things needed for one to have together to get around on the instrument first like, sound production, tone quality, scales, arpeggios, etc.

The Concept side deals with what music the student came up listening to from the stand point of what genre, what artists, what songs, etc. Then, I'll need to know what are the goals that are desired to be accomplished based on what the student projects conceptually by way of the artists that they like.

Then in future lessons we can break down the details on how to actually get to the desire goal of the student.
