Billy H.

Arlington, TX

I have mostly taught beginner drummers to get the basics down. -separating the limbs to work independently - rudiments - basic beats and grooves used in popular music - and how to read it and write it on paper if you are interested.

also - "how to count" ...and "understanding song structure"

I have also worked with a few excellent, established drummers on "what to play in the studio" and how to be a good session player...how to be consistent and simplify.... etc

About Billy

I teach my students how to understand how music is put together so they can learn even more on their own.

I read, write, and play all styles and I focus on teaching the student fundamentals that work in all styles of music ....AND I get them going on the style they are interested in - pop, rock, country, folk, etc.

I have spent my entire life in the music industry and I can show you how to use what I teach to apply to the real world. I have also been a successful songwriter and I can work with students to learn about song structure and song writing.

I am also good at preparing studen
ts for college music classes.

*** Lesson Details ***
I like to break it down into small steps and accomplish them, then move on to the next.

Each person learns differently and I am good at connecting with how you learn - then we can use a book or CD or not according to your needs.

I have several books to choose from as well as CDs and other tools. BUT .....some things are learned best through 1 on 1 instruction and explanation without a book.

I like to see progress every week and I usually do.

*** Studio Equipment ***
recording studio w/ seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student needs instrument only to start and discuss from there.
I have many tuners, metronomes, props, books, etc

*** Specialties ***
I teach using modern popular songs as vehicles but back up examples with theory and some reading and ear training.
I usually get quick results and my students can understand the music as well as play it.

Since this was the first time venturing into playing an instrument and reading music, Billy was very patient with me. I left the lesson knowing more about the ukulele, the C scale, and the C F & G chords. I highly recommend Billy.

Great teacher and very knowledgeable. Laid back but still pushes you beyond your current comfort zone with each lesson. Always felt I learned something new and important each time to help with my development as a beginner bass player!

Thomas S.

Richardson, TX

Lessons cover proper techniques as well as how to play with feel.

About Thomas

Hello, I'™m Thomas, but most people call me T. I started taking private drum lessons when I was 6 years old from Lucy Flohr. Ms. Lucy was one of the most influential and important people in my development not only as a drummer but in life as well (she's the lady in my profile picture). I met her at 6, and we'™re still friends 30 years later.
After Lucy I started lessons with professors at UNT (which in those days was NTSU). My glam band, Skin Deep, was getting major record deal offers, but it was 1992 when grunge took over. So under guidance of our attorney we didn'™t sign any offers. W
ith my high hopes deflated and a musically defeated heart I had to make a change. So instead of going to UNT to study music which I had been being groomed to do, I chose to go to Austin and attend UT. I graduated from UT in 1997 with a degree in psychology and decided to move to Los Angeles to follow my dream. My band broke up about a month later, but I formed a new one (Milkweed, which morphed into a blue grass band after I left, now called River Rouge) and got an indy record deal. We released "Milkweed....For Breakfast" on my birthday in 2000, and we did lots of regional touring for the next 3 years. Then I moved back to Dallas and joined JackAcid. We released "Life Through a Crazy Straw" on another independent label and toured regionally for a few years. Next was Crossing Ellum, which was fronted by Matthew JC (Founder of Emmy winning Small Guy Music and œMatthew JC and the All Stars). I spent several years playing with a heavy rock band named Social Jab that unfortunately ended before we released our CD titled S3V3N Years... I currently play in Marquis of Vaudeville.
I started teaching classmates in 7th grade and continued through high school. Then I took a hiatus from teaching with just a student here and there during college and my touring days. Now I'm back to teaching more than I'm playing, and I love it! I believe music is a phenomenal gift to us all in every facet, from listening, to learning, to creating, to performing, and it'™s an honor to be able to share my knowledge and experiences to help others learn to appreciate the blessing of music.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are catered to each individual student. If you want to learn theory, we will start from the beginning. If you just want to learn how to play your favorite songs, then that's what you'll learn. Your personal goals for drumming determine how I teach you.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In-home music room w/ two drum kits (if needed) and seating for parents. Piano, guitars, bass, and recording equipment.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide any manuscript paper necessary for first lesson, then I would expect students to purchase a blank manuscript book along with any books chosen to study.

*** Specialties ***
My lessons are catered to each student's goals.

I have been taking lessons with Thomas for a year and a half. He is very patient and explains things very well. I had no drum experience before I met him. I can read music and play better than I ever though I could for the limited amount of time I have been paying. I highly recommend Thomas for adults and kids. I have a busy work schedule and he has been gracious and flexible with my schedule.

My sons first lesson was great. He liked Bens style and was given great instruction and things to work on. My son is thinking about taking 2 classes a week instead of just one. I would recommend Ben for anyone!

Ben was very accommodating to my son's busy marching band schedule. My son had never taken lessons before, and he was nervous as to what to expect. By the second lesson, that was all just a thing in the past! Ben worked with my teenager to relax and really enjoy what he was playing. Even the teachers at school have noticed the improvement in my son's abilities after only a few lessons with Ben! If you need a lesson teacher, BOOK BEN!

Hello figure students! I've been teaching drums for 3 years and have been playing for 13. I've taught at School of Rock and my students have gone on to play House of Blues and festivals in Colorado! Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play basic rock beats and elementary rudiments. As time goes on you'll be able to play along to your favorite songs. Marisa brings a ton of real life drumming experience to the table. She understands fully that the student's time is valuable, and limited. She will construct a lesson plan that revolves around your musical interests, whether it be learning your favorite rock groove, or the music theory behind the music.

I took lessons with Marisa for over a year, and I feel it was great money and time spent! I was a complete novice when starting my lessons with Marisa, so she took a holistic approach covering fun groove patterns, musical theory, and technique.

If you're interested in learning how to play the drums, or already a capable drummer in need of someone to challenge your abilities I would strongly suggest getting Marisa on board with your training!
