Barry is a gifted and talented individual who urges his students to step out the box. If you ever receive and opportunity to work with Barry understand you'll be put to a challenge and be expected to challenge yourself. I was able to experience and learn many things in Theater acting, Speaking voice, Singing and Music theory and I could never be more grateful for everything he passed on to me as knowledge .

Barry is a very skilled and patient teacher. He has helped me with the confidence I needed to embrace my natural voice tone. I have regained a love for singing after working with such an inspirational being. I thought that after smiling I have don't irreparable damage to my vocal chords but Barry showed me that was not the case! For that I am forever great fun! Anyone who is really serious about singing should have just one class with Barry and your ideas about the craft will be immediately transformed!

Timothy H.

Washington, DC

We concentrate on developing proper technique including posture and fingering, scales and strengthening exercises, beginning to intermediate theory, musicality and knowledge of repertoire in various genres

About Timothy

I hold a Bachelors of Fine Arts from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. With over 15 years of experience, in both piano and voice, I've had to opportunity to perform, both domestically and internationally, with such great acts as Peter Nero and The Philly Pops, The Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, and many others. I served as lead singer, pianist, and co-songwriter for a number of independent bands covering numerous genres including, but not limited to, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Acoustic, and A Capella.

Since moving to Washington DC, I've immersed myself within the local music communit
y playing a handful of group and solo acts. I currently maintain a home music studio well equipped with musical instruments and music technology. I'm constantly practicing, writing, and recording to improve myself as an artist.

My teaching style is unique and individualized to each student. I set personalized goals to make every lesson a success, and I push my students to get the most out of themselves just like I do myself. I'm always enthusiastic and humor driven to create a personable learning environment for students of any age. Music is my life, and I'm so thrilled to have the opportunity to share my greatest passion with the hope that my students, too, will fall in love with music!

*** Lesson Details ***
My lesson environment is laid back and stress-free. I like my students to feel inspired and encouraged as they begin, and/or continue, their music education. I introduce fun and innovative ways to build students' musicianship and creativity while retaining classic methods to develop strong technique and proper performance and practice habits.

For beginners, we'll be exploring the basics of either piano, or voice, while focusing on proper technique, basic theory, and a solid skill set. Within 3-6 months, my students are able to read music and understand the language of it.

For intermediate-advanced, we'll focus on building musicianship and skill sets by furthering studies in music theory, varying styles of repertoire, proper techniques that will greatly improve your piano and/or voice abilities, songwriting, improvisation, and live performance skills. We can also cover the basics of recording so you not only have tangible evidence of your improvement over time, but the know-how to create your own music!

I ask that my students come prepared to every lesson with the motivation and commitment to learn something new each week! Lessons are a fun and creative way to discover yourself as an artist and a person, so let's get started!!

Priscilla D.

Piano class is an exciting and informative introduction to piano and music skills for beginning to intermediate level kids. Students are taught a stimulating, thorough, and graduated course of recital solos, theory, technical studies, and classic piano repertoire. Once students have learned the fundamentals, they undergo a more intensive study of the instrument. With a solid foundation, intermediate to advanced students are encouraged to pursue any number of different styles of music, including but not limited to: Classical, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Blues, Reggae, Electronica, and more

About Priscilla

I love to mentor young creatives between the ages of 5-17 in music and the arts and I thrive in being personable with each of my little musicians. I believe I'm 100% qualified in educating youth in music theory, piano, guitar and visual arts. You got to be versatile with children so they may love the art and the process of playing music. With teaching I also love learning the different development these kids have in music and visual arts and I believe in the importance of adapting my teachings to each students needs. Through my 15 years of studying and teaching Music in both here in the US and
in Brazil, my homeland. I've come to realize with the support of my mentors, peers and my family that my niche is to alternatively educate children in the arts for the enrichment of culture. It's vital to me to teach arts in a variety of ways and styles and I'll do so for always with great passion. Music is art and art is good for the growth of your kids So get on board with me and let's Make Music and Create some Art!

I specialize in teaching all kinds of styles from Classical, Pop,Bossa Nova in guitar, piano and music theory lessons. I Love to emphasize various playing techniques, music theory, ear training, music reading, and more. The materials for teaching varies.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, Books, Metronome, Guitar

*** Travel Equipment ***
note book, assigned books and sheet music assigned

*** Specialties ***
Guitar, Piano, Music Theory and Performance is what we do !
My main goal is to present students with simplified arrangements of standard repertoire concentrating on sight-reading and writing composition as well as playing all sorts of variety of music genres. Use of the metronome is needed, and very often the exercises defy the tendency to play by ear or in the position pattern. We will focus 1/2 of the lesson on repertoire and 1/2 the lesson on the technique. I have my students let me know via email what songs they would like to work on for the weeks lesson a few days prior to the lesson, then I cater the technical study during the lesson to help them learn the song we are working on. It has been proven to be very effective and makes the technique and theory are less uninteresting.
Through good vibes we all learn and grow tremendously so with that said come and Jam with me.

Miles H.

Falls Church, VA

I not only focus on reading, technique and theory but how these subjects relate to the music you listen to.

I believe music is a language and is understood best in context of of what music you enjoy on a daily basis, that way you can play along.

I like to structure my lessons around the student, focusing on their goals and aspirations.

About Miles

Miles was born in Bogota, Colombia, but raised in Annapolis, MD. Early in life, he began to take classical piano lessons, but after 9 years, guitar became his instrument of choice (though he still has a fond appreciation for the piano).

He then went on to graduate from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor's Degree in Professional Music. His time at Berklee has enabled Miles to play in venues all around the Boston/Cambridge area. He has been teaching around NOVA/DC for 3 years.

Miles does his best to make lessons incorporate the music you enjoy listening to in conjunction with the nec
essary theory and technique to do so.

Fun Fact: Two of his guitars are custom built by himself. He often provides students assistance in maintenance of their instrument.

"Musical training is a more potent instrument than any other, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inner places of the soul." - Plato

Miles was an amazing teacher for me and my son. We both took Piano and Guitar lessons with Miles for close to 2 years and enjoyed every lesson. He is very knowledgeable when it comes to music, can help you focus on the music you want to play and he is just as good with adults as he is with kids! I would highly recommend taking lessons with him and I think he is an amazing teacher

I'm a beginning guitar student and have just started taking guitar lessons from Miles. He's very knowledgable, patient, and kind. I haven't quite made "friends" with those strings yet, but with Miles' help, I know I will.
