About Julia

I have been studying music and performing professionally since the age of nine in New York City. In 2007 I started teaching voice, guitar and songwriting in Southern California and performing original music with my band. In 2010 I co-founded the Creative Arts Initiative, a literacy-based program for teenage girls in Sierra Leone, West Africa that encourages self-expression and empowerment through creative writing and the arts. As a kid, I performed off-Broadway and took voice and piano lessons. The problem was that I hated practicing! Scales and repetitive playing bored me to no end, and I felt like I wanted to quit many time. But when I started combining my poetry with my own music, and keeping my body engaged in the process, my life was forever changed. I felt a deeper understanding ...

Excellent Teaching Skills

The best vocal coach ever! Miss Jackie makes the students feel as though there is nothing that they cannot do and helps them achieve it. She is very knowledgeable in every aspect of her field, goes above and beyond. She is very patient with the students and never lets them feel silly. I highly recommend her for vocal lessons.

When I first begin teaching a student, I tell them that everyone has the ability to sing well no matter his or her experience. I also tell them that there are four things that a good singer must have: breathe control (air is your fuel, and must be used efficiently and effectively to give you the best sound), posture (in order to have access to your air and prevent vocal damage you must practice good posture habits), diction (how you pronounce words when singing can impede or improve vocal tone, as well as help or hinder the audience in understanding the lyrics) and finally and most importantly, passion. Passion is how emotionally connected you are to music and is what really allows the singer to connect with his or her audience.

About Rosalind

Hi, my name is Rosalind H. and I began my musical education at the age of ten, when I first started taking lessons. Since that time I have performed professionally as a singer in churches, cafes and at weddings and in venues including the Kimmel Center and Carnegie Hall during my college years with the renowned Westminster Symphonic Choir. After spending a year teaching children and adolescents aged 6-17 voice and piano while completing my Master¬ôs of Arts in Music Therapy at Drexel University, I am now looking to take on private students in Chester County and surrounding areas. I am a Westminster Choir College '11 Alum  who graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts in Music, summa cum laude. I am also a Member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and a  Board Certified ...

Fantastic Teacher

I am not your typical student. I am 45, and male. Im an acomplished guitar player and play in a band. I never had any real training for singing, and had very little control over my voice or really knew how to control it.
Roz has helped me immensely. She is very knowledgeable in music and voice theory, and has very well thought out constructive criticism. She uses a lot of visualization techniques to help with body and breath control. She is patient and understanding and willing to talk through some theory issues, instead of just drilling lessons. Although most of her students are younger, she really thoughtfully catered her lesson to my needs, instead of just trying to apply the same approach to everyone. I would recommend her highly to anyone and will be sending my son for piano lessons!

My grandson is taking piano lessons from Rosalind H. At first I was wondering about the interaction because he's shy; but he looks forward to his lessons and practices diligently. I'm sure it's because of Rosalind's experience and teaching techniques that makes it so enjoyable for him; she's very good with children. I'm so glad she was available!

Best vocal teacher I have had, and I have had a few

I can't help but notice an immense improvement in the quality and control that I have over my voice since I switched from my last voice teacher to Mrs. Hayes. She has helped me improve my posture, breathe control, sound placement, and ease with which I can sing. She has taught me IPA, which allowed me to better understand, pronounce, and sing different vowel sounds comfortably in different languages. She gives such precise instruction that I know that I can only improve even more from now on!
