She has helped me tremendously! We have a good time learning and laughing during my lessons with her. She had also helped me to stop listening to what others think about my voice and focus on believing in myself as I learn and progress. Risks l thanks

Desiree puts the fun in fundamentals!

I decided to take voice lessons for pleasure as a hobby to keep my mind off of the stresses of daily life. I had a lot of confidence issues to get over when I started taking lessons with Desiree; mainly because I didn't want to embarrass myself like those people I make fun of on American Idol. Her non-threatening teaching style has been the perfect fit for me...although she does raise her voice at me when I judge myself too harshly, but I won't count against her ;) My confidence has soared and I feel that I'm a much bolder and more comfortable singer. I’m enjoying every minute of discovering my voice with Desiree. I've still got some work to do but I'm confident she'll help me reach my goals.

Voices are a Gift

Desiree has helped my sister and I develop our vocal skills and work to our full potential. She has also helped us realize that our voices are a gift and we need to treasure them. Desiree has strengthened our confidence in signing in front of people as well as signing in general. She is more than just a teacher she is a role model and a person we feel we can count on.

Jen has been working with my daughter for only 4 months but her growth in that amount of time has been amazing. She absolutely loves Miss Jen! Jen is an outstanding teacher and makes my daughter feel so comfortable and relaxed. Her favorite time of the week is when she can work with Jen. We are so honored and grateful that she is working with our daughter, we couldn't ask for a better teacher. The best around!

Nicholas K.

Irwin, PA

Here is a brief list of areas that I specialize in teaching when it comes to acting:

*Scene work
*Monologue work
*Dialect coaching
*Acting through song
*Character Analysis

About Nicholas

I am 28 years old, and was born and raised in North Huntingdon Pennsylvania. I knew at a very young age that I wanted to pursue a career in the arts. I believe that music specifically unlocks self-expression, intelligence, and creativity, and I cannot imagine a life without it. Teaching music, acting, and singing is something that brings me great joy, I am passionately committed to my students and love the challenges and rewards that teaching has to offer!

Training and Experience:

I am a classical trained singer and musical theater actor. I studied vocal performance at Slippery Rock Univ
ersity with Dr. Colleen Gray. While I was at Slippery Rock I had the opportunity to perform in a variety of plays, musicals and operas. My favorite roles include Seymour Krelbourn in Little Shop of Horrors, Cliff Bradshaw in Cabaret, and Jacques in Shakespeare's As you like it. I also had significant roles in Slippery Rock's main stage operas including King Melchior in Amahl and the night Visitors and Dr. Falked in Die Fledermaus. When I was a junior, I had the opportunity to perform in my first professional opera, Bellini's i capuleti e i Montecchi (The Capulets and the Montagues) with the Pittsburgh Opera Chorus at the Benedum Center. After college I performed at Busch Gardens Williamsburg as a singer in their Italian shows as well as their Christmas Show.

I have performed in operas, plays and musicals regionally around the country including Florida, New Hampshire, Connecticut and New York City. My most recent project was workshopping a new musical called Front Page Girl, a musical based on life of Nellie Bly, who was a pioneer for women in the world of journalism. The musical was composed by David Friedman with a book written by Peter Kellogg. David Friedman is known for his work on the Today Show, his work with Disney's Beauty and the Beast on Broadway, and composing the Broadway musical 'Scandal' with Kathy Lee Gifford in 2012. Peter Kellogg is a two time Tony Award Nominee for his work in the musical adaptation of Anna Karenina. The opportunity to work with these two talented men was an experience I will never forget. I also had the pleasure of being nominated and winning a 2013 Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for my portrayal of Joseph Pulitzer in Front Page Girl.

I taught private voice in college and at The Centerstage Academy of Performing Arts when I lived in Williamsburg. I recently moved back to Pittsburgh after living in New York City for just under two years. and I am ready to get back into private teaching! I specialize in teaching classical voice, musical theater, audition preparation, monologue preparation, and performance preparation. I have taught students both individually and in a group setting. The ages of my students have ranged anywhere from third grade to men and women into their sixties. As someone who has been in the business for a little over five years now, I am confident that I have the tools to teach and prepare any student who has the passion, commitment and work ethic that it takes to succeed.

Acting Tips: What's in your Toolbox?
As with any profession, actors have tools. Just as a doctor needs a stethoscope or a fireman needs a hose, there are certain items an actor must keep in their toolbox. I usually start classes or lessons by asking my new students or clients what they think these tools might be. Sometimes, the answer is very literal ("Script!"), and other times abstract ("Passion!"). None of these is a wrong answer. Being an actor or artist is subjective and everyone's process is different and valid. But th
