"Tiffany is very skilled and proficient at her profession. She is also exceptional at being able to translate and communicate those core competencies and t
echniques to her students in such a manner that there are specific exercises identified to encourage them to learn, practice and refine their developing skills and talent. My nephew's dramatic presentation has grown significantly during his time of being coached and trained by Tiffany. I would recommend Tiffany, without reservation, as an instructor to anyone who is serious about advancing his or her acting skills."

My daighter said "I like her, she's cool." That is a VERY BIG compliment!!! I was impressed with her vast musical knowledge and production experience. Seems like a wonderful opportunity to expose your kid to the creativity of music while still gaining a ramge of foundational musical knowledge at the same time.

My 13 year old daughter has been taking singing lessons with Jan for a couple of months. Jan is an excellent instructor. She really takes the time to tailor the lessons to my daughter's objectives and goals. Jan conducts her lesson in a lively manner which keeps my daughter engaged at all times. Jan has a wealth of knowledge to share, whether you are taking lessons for personal enrichment or if you are serious about becoming a singer/songwriter.
Just a couple of seasons ago one of my amazing students, Juliana Chahayed made top 40 on American Idol! 2 of my students recently made it through two rounds of The Voice. 12 of my students sang on the Grammy Award nominated "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming" by M83. My students have also gotten into top music programs at Berklee College of Music, NYU, USC, Brandeis and Cal State University Northridge; won 1st prize in the high school talent show and money prizes in community singing contests. My singers have sung the Star Spangle Banner at Staples Center for a Clipper's game and produced success
ful showcases in the LA area. My story starts a while back: As a singer/songwriter my experiences singing live from Bud Friedman's Improv to the Disneyland Hotel and in studios all across Los Angeles eventually took me to Europe where I landed in Brussels and recorded an album for Sony Records/Belgium which produced three radio hits in the 90's. I also recorded and/or wrote jingles for Coca Cola, Fanta, Schwepes, Fisher Price and more! Fluent in French, when I moved back to the states I taught at Lycee International de Los Angeles for 12 years where I developed a music program for their 4 campuses, teaching K through 12, including commendations from everyone from French President Sarkozy to Los Angeles Councilman Tom LeBonge. I've recorded 6 children's CD's and recently directed and arranged background vocals for renown French singer and actress Charlotte Gainsbourg. In my private practice I have prepared and developed singers for live performance, personal development and for the rigors of the auditioning process. And we always have fun!!
*** Lesson Details *** Learn to play the voice! I have developed my own special brand of singing lessons using breathing and placement techniques to provide the tools you need to develop as a vocalist and help you make the choices of an artist. How do you want to tell your story? My lessons will help you build confidence and every lesson will bring you a new piece of understanding and practical know-how. You will work hard, play hard, build a repertoire, and make tangible improvements in every single lesson! Success breeds success. If you want to audition for The Voice or simply enjoy the applause at karaoke night, I can bring you closer to your goal. I can also include beginning piano which can only add to your skills including an understanding of music vocabulary and the basic mechanics of music theory.
*** Studio Equipment *** Music Room, and recording studio, piano, guitars, computer and cd, ipod docs. Parents are welcome to stay for lessons or run to close-by Starbucks, Costco or Home Depot!
*** Travel Equipment *** I use a piano to teach both voice and beginning piano.
*** Specialties *** I use solfege, breathing and placement techniques filtered through an emphasis on real world performance skills. Helping the student build confidence is probably one of the teachers' most important roles. Creating a safe environment is key to keeping the lesson fun, productive and challenging. Every single student should leave every single lesson with a tangible feeling of progress.

I started taking lessons with her 3 months ago and I've made so much progress. She's always challenging me to get out of my comfort zone. So glad I found her.

Laurel is a vocal coach and performer with a long history of singing in various bands ranging from cover bands to original rock as well as writing and recording her own music. She is a classically trained actress with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts from California State University, Northridge and has starred in several musicals and plays in Los Angeles as well as Hawaii where she lived most recently before returning to the mainland. She has also worked as a professional actress in film and TV and was a voice over casting director for several years. Currently Laurel is the lead singer in t
he band Emergence which will be making its debut in summer 2017 in Ventura County.
Laurel has been trained through Seth Riggs Speech Level Singing and the Institute for Vocal Advancement (IVA). These methods help singers obtain optimum results using exercises specific to their vocal type to increase control and strengthen the mix between head and chest voice. Singers are able to sing in any style without straining, cracking or causing damage to their vocal cords. Laurel is passionate about helping her students release their true voices and unleash their maximum singing potential.
*** Lesson Details *** Our method is derived from the Bel Canto technique of singing which has been historically used by opera singers though it can be applied to any genre of music. Teaching this method helps our students sing with a relaxed and open voice, adequate support and use of the diaphragm for breathing and control, and proper and effective use of vowels while transitioning between registers in the voice. Through vocal exercises customized to the student's individual vocal type and characteristics, the student will learn how to sing with a proper mixed vocal sound which is explained further below.
We focus on assisting a singer through his or her vocal range from lowest notes (chest register) to highest notes (head register), safely, effortlessly, without strain, tension or loss of control. The goal is to sing with a clear solid and connected tone free from breaks or forcing pitches which results in tightness, yelling or voice flipping into an airy-sounding pitch. The student improves their singing using a low and stable larynx which is the key to producing a mixed sound and mastering singing.
Ultimately the secret to reaching your full vocal potential lies in mastering the vocal bridges which assist in the transition between registers. This technique not only allows you to sing in a safe manner but will effectively balance and strengthen your voice. Once you make the commitment to taking consistent lessons, practicing and singing correctly as much as possible, you will become the singer you have always believed you could be!
*** Studio Equipment *** Yamaha keyboard, speakers and monitor to play background music and lyrics
*** Specialties *** Improvement of singing pitch and range Choosing the right songs for your vocal type Learning to sing in a correct and safe manner Balancing the voice from bottom register to top Elimination of cracking, reaching and straining Building dynamics and breath control Stage performance and finding truth and emotion Speech and Acting Audition Preparation

I loved working with Joanne! She directed me in a play(Sex In Manhattan) and I really enjoyed and benefited from her ability to direct. She was motivating and inspiring and gave excellent notes for me as an actor. I just returned from being oversea for many years as I was acting in action movies in Asia and one of the first people I contacted was Joanne to see what she was working on. I would love to work on another play if she puts something up and would recommend any actor to try and audition or take classes from her. Thanks Joanne and if your back in LA let me know if you have anything for me to come and audition, great luck!

She will both make you a better artist and make you more marketable. I absolutely adore her, and you will love working with her too!
