Learn to play your favorite songs, and write your own music. Learn and master fretboard logic, chord structures, scales, improvising, composition, sight reading, music theory. All ages, all styles and levels are welcome.

About Jason

I have been teaching and performing as a full time career since 1994. Over the years, I have developed an approach to teaching that is customized to the needs and interests of each of my students. I will help you set up musical goals, and then use your preferred learning style to help you achieve those goals.

*** Lesson Details ***
Musicians think, learn, and create in many different ways. Some are visual learners, preferring to learn by studying diagrams and reading notes. Others learn intuitively, simply by listening, imitating, and then creating. My objective is to find the lear
ning style which works best for each of my students. I can help you set up musical goals, and then use your preferred learning style to help you achieve those goals.

*** Specialties ***
I'm comfortable teaching any style, from bluegrass to jazz, blues, rock and metal.

Benjamin P.

Parkville, MD

I love teaching music! I have been a professional guitar instructor for over 8 years. Through attentive one on one instruction I develop a program to suit the player's goals. I emphasize technique with drills designed to raise my students' skills evenly across a wide range of categories, like picking, fretting, scale patterns, chord shapes, chord progressions, rhythm training, and ear training. I can guide a complete beginner toward being able to play songs and have fun. For the more serious student I have a plan that will make you a better player and musician guaranteed.

About Benjamin

I discovered music sifting through my Dad's record collection and soon decided that I wanted to play guitar. As a teenager I began taking lessons and building confidence in my abilities. I played in different types of bands ranging from rock, country, blues, and jazz. After completing College in 2004, I realized music was not just going to be a hobby, but a career. At age 35, I have been teaching and playing guitar professionally for the last 11 years. I believe that anybody can learn to play as long as they are patient and understand that anything worthwhile takes time and sustained effor
t to achieve. You also need a good teacher who understands how to take you where you want to go musically. I have taught hundreds of different students of all ages and abilities. I have seen many of them grow musically and gain confidence in other areas of their lives as a result. I aim to inspire every student to find their way to a rewarding life through music.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lesson plans are developed on an individual basis. I want you to learn the music that inspires your passion. If the guitar is new to you, the first lessons are devoted to basic playing skills and techniques. It is important to develop a strong understanding of music fundamentals to ensure that the student is attaining the skills they need to be a complete musician. I emphasize technique with drills designed to raise my students' skills evenly across a wide range of categories, like picking, fretting, scale patterns, chord shapes, rhythm training, and ear training. I have had success with many students using this approach and most are playing songs within a couple months. For the more serious student, music theory is an important tool to understand songwriting and music in general. I am always open to discuss what we do during a lesson. I believe it is my job to balance what you want to do with what you need to do in order to succeed.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have amps, guitars, 1/4 inch cables, tuners, metronomes, paper and pens.
Would like students to have all these things but can accommodate based on need.

*** Specialties ***
Rock, Pop, Blues, Country, flat-picking, finger-style

I must say that Benjamin was great. I come from no musical background and had zero knowledge. Benjamin made me feel relaxed and broke down the sessions in an easy way so that I could understand the concept of what we were trying to accomplish. I look forward to future lessons and learning how to play the guitar

Ben is an amazing guitar teacher who is patient and always willing to work with a busy schedule. As a senior in high school, many things pop up and we are always able to work around it. His lessons are based around what the students want to learn and he always finds a way to accomplish it. He has a great deal of knowledge in music theory and has helped me many times stay ahead in my music theory class in school and more importantly how to tie it in musically. As a performing musician as well, he has experience and other bits of wisdom about music and beyond that he can/will share and has which I feel is important as well.

Nathan R.

Halethorpe, MD

I can cover any genres a student might want to learn as well as different techniques including classical, fingerpicking style, lead, etc.

About Nathan

I have been teaching private lessons for close to 10 years and have been an active performer for even longer, playing in all different types of groups, from rock bands and jazz groups to orchestras and brass bands. I studied music at Frostburg State University (Bachelors) and the Peabody Conservatory (Masters). I can teach just about any age and skill level and cover anything you are interested in learning; whether its a certain style, genre, technique or song.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are laid back, with a focus on perfecting the basics. Most students work out of a method boo
k appropriate to their skill level. Aside from that we'll also spend time learning songs and pieces of the students choice. With the right amount of effort, you'll know your way around your instrument in no time at all

*** Travel Equipment ***
Will provide sheet music and exercises. My students should have a working instrument as well as any method book or sheet music we are working on.

*** Specialties ***
I teach all styles and genres

As a total beginner, I found it to be a great experience since I had nothing to compare it to. Nathan demonstrated substantial knowledge and was easy to work with. He was very good at instructing one on how to use the instrument.

As an over 50 student who use to be somewhat decent at playing the piano 30 years ago, I was fairly nervous about starting up again, as well as somewhat skeptical that lessons would really help. But after a few months with Nathan I can say that they are definitely helping and I feel lucky to have found him. Nathan is not only knowledgeable but has an excellent instinct regarding what I need in an instructor. I feel confident he would be able to adapt his style to any type of student of any age range or ability level.

Nathan is an EXCELLENT piano teacher! He's encouraging, not at all upset when I clearly haven't practiced,
and is a pleasure to be with. He is gifted in the way he seems just the right teacher for me, though I'm sure he's as fine a teacher for others who have their own individual approaches to learning to play the piano.

Theresa is a human encyclopedia of musical knowledge. She is patient, understanding and is willing to take the time to break down a particular element of learning so it it's more readily understandable to a student trying to learn a new instrument. I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to learn most any instrument since she teaches so many different ones.
