Wonderful teacher! Fun, caring, and so helpful!

Becca L. is an amazing teacher! I have such a fear of singing in front of people, and she helped me face that fear and get on the road to conquering it. She totally understood where I was coming from and worked with my specific skill level and ability. I always felt comfortable with her and had fun! She knew how to challenge me and push me to meet my goals, and I am so happy that I found her!

Michelle G.

North Hollywood, CA

About Michelle

Musician/Songwriter/Performer

Poised, energized, and armed with unforgettable performance ability, Michelle G. is a firework in the artistic arena. Her training began at the young age of 3 with the violin, and a few years later received classes for piano and voice. Excelling in all three, Michelle developed a very passionate and dramatic personality that eventually led her to more dramatic genres such as opera and stage acting. Her aptitude to understand human emotions and relationships gives her a wide spectrum to play in as an actress. There is an organic flow to her interpretations both
as an actress and musician that leads the audience to feel her emotional current. Her honest characterizations introduce deeper perspectives on what seems like the ordinary roles and storylines. Amongst the many other leads that she has played, her participation in roles like “Susanna” in The Marriage of Figaro, or “Donna Elvira” in Don Giovanni embody much vibrancy and integrity.
Through the development of her voice as a singer and actress, she has crossed over into other media such as voice over commercial work and vocals for pop/main stream music productions. She has recently participated as a vocalist and violinist in the albums of artists such as international jazz pop artist David Longoria, Latin pop singer Erick Bolivar, Grammy-nominated percussionist Souhail Kaspar, and American Idol’s Seysha. Over the last few years she has unraveled her musical skills as a songwriter/composer/arranger and has even had some small victories acquiring music placements on TV shows (NCIS, short film “Sumtin’ Like Dat”, The Dictator) for herself and some of her colleagues. Her inner brilliance is lighting a unique path before her, and she is bravely embracing each step forward in a promising creative career.

Education
Michelle completed her Associates of Arts for Music/Music Education at the age of 18, and got later graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Miami with a Bachelor's of Arts for Musical Theater and Music Business, as well as from Florida International University with a Master's of Music in Vocal Performance.

*** Lesson Details ***
I tailor my lessons to my student's needs, style, abilities, and goals. Learning is truly a fun and passionate adventure for me, and my enthusiasm has consistently been a contagious quality :) I love to challenge myself & my students to discover how immense their true potential is, and I create a safe and fun environment to explore such facets.

My curriculum is combination of solid tradition (Suzuki method for piano & violin, and Bel Canto technique for singing) interwoven with pop-culture, and modern influences. Within the first 3-6 months, my students will know the basic building blocks of music - which includes scales, arpeggios, triads, intervals, technique, and performance repertoire; and for my singers this will include proper breath technique, tone placement, support, very often increased vocal range (both high and low), and will feel significantly stronger vocally and more confident getting up to sing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Full size Keyboard, mics, pro tools, Violin (electric, acoustic, and Chinese Ehru)

*** Specialties ***
Specialties include:
- Audition technique and prep
- Vocal Technique
- Violin Pedagogy
- Acting Audition Technique

She's the first Spanish teacher I actually look forward to seeing each time we have a lesson because she makes the lessons so much fun! She's very funny and easy to work with. Whenever I need to make a change to a lesson she always does everything she can to make it work. I've finally been able to raise my grade in Spanish after working with her!

These lessons are focused on re-awakening the student to their creative potential through authentic self-expression. Although centered around the voice, Michelle will use various techniques to help unlock any resistance or hesitation to expressing ones whole self more fully in the world. By first understanding and recognizing the voice as a vessel for creativity and authenticity, we can then cultivate habits and techniques, which allow the student to gain confidence, joy and inspiration through the expression of their authentic self. These lessons are ideal for those wishing to gain more confidence in their speaking voice, the individual looking to overcome any type of performance anxiety and/or for the student wishing to cultivate a speaking voice that more fully reflects and resonates the individual they desire to express themselves as. This can also be a wonderful opportunity for the seasoned performer to take their artistry and connection to their craft to the next level.

About Michelle

I believe that everyone can sing, it is just a matter of learning how to use your unique instrument. From a very young age I was sharing my love of the arts with others as a performer. I grew up with an immense appreciation for all forms of art and found music to be the ideal way to express myself. My extensive education and performance experience has allowed me to cultivate my skills and knowledge so that I can best support each student on their own unique journey of cultivating their authentic singing voice. As a teacher I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to support students both in my
studio and through online lessons, providing the positive and supportive guidance and experiences they need in order to cultivate their own musical gifts.

*** Lesson Details ***
My intention for each student is to support him or her, to the best of my ability, in finding and cultivating their voice, as well as their musical and performance abilities. As a teacher, I keep a healthy balance between professionalism and making learning fun, inspiring and experiential. I design a specific curriculum for each student based on their specific goals and intentions regarding their voice so that each lesson focuses on them and their unique needs. It is extremely important to me that students of all ages have a positive experience of music in their lives and I provide fun and encouraging performance opportunities for those students who wish to participate. I have extensive experience working with individuals who may have fear or anxiety about singing, speaking or expressing themselves to others. I am able to assist these students as they move past their fear and hesitation and truly claim their voice. They learn to cultivate and appreciate their own ability to express themselves in the world with confidence and ease. My goal is to recognize and support each student's potential, helping to give them confidence, direction and motivation on their unique musical journey.

BEST TEACHER EVER! I started vocal lessons with Michelle earlier this year as a long-time guitar playing looking to grow into a singer as well. She is the best music teacher I have ever had! And I have had many over the years. Besides the obvious credentials (which you are probably listed here on the site) she has those intangible qualities that make her the best. Never-ending optimism and support, well-described and directed input, and just a really sweet, kind, and positive nature. No matter what your ability level, Michelle is the kind of teacher that will move you in the right direction. Unless you work best with the drill-seargeant type of instructor, stop looking because, you just found the best.

Michelle is super intelligent and an amazing teacher. Even though I took four semesters of sight singing in college, she was able to give me several eye opening techniques that I never learned or even considered previously. These techniques are a HUGE for improving my voice quickly and easily, and they are also a ton of fun! Very awesome teacher.

I have learned so much from Michelle! I never had any vocal training growing up and really only recently, as an adult, took up singing. Singing in front of people is one of my top three fears of all time and Michelle's positive teaching style is making it less of a fear with each lesson. She is understanding and firm with her instructions and always is looking for different ways of illustrating a concept.

I appreciate her flexibility with lesson times. I have changed my lesson schedule more times that i can count and Michelle is always accommodating. While i am new to the singing world, I had several singing instructors before finding Michelle and my growth under her instruction exceeds all the others combined.

If you are looking for a new instructor i highly recommend trying Michelle!

Vanessa is an amazing instructor! She manages to teach to the various levels of our daughters, who are nine and 15, so that both make progress and enjoy the experience. She is patient, pleasant and always encouraging. We really look forward to our weekly class, and want to practice at home so we deserve her praise. We're really having fun, and Vanessa is the reason.
