Chris U.

Park Forest, IL

Lessons on the pipe organ are available, but will need to be scheduled for when the organ is accessible.

About Chris

If you are interested in Music Production, especially with computers, I am looking for you. If you are looking to take your music to the next level - improvisation and composition, then I want to work with you. If you or your kids have an aptitude for music, I want to explore that with you.

I am a musician, composer, and producer of television and film scores, teaching college courses in music production, composition, and private piano studies. My students range from beginners to piano teachers.

I am serious about music because it is the most fun and rewarding thing that life has to
offer (in my humble opinion...) Let's get started.

*** Lesson Details ***
For beginning students I like to teach the way my beginning piano teacher taught me. She was patient and kind, she listened carefully to the pieces I worked on every week. She was funny and smart, she always had good advice to carry me through to the next lesson, especially when she could tell I hadn't improved as much as I ought to have. I stayed with her for 10 years.

For continuing students, we will figure out where you are and where you want to go. Personally, I like to mix things up a bit to break up the monotony and gain the skills that different styles have to offer. Bach, Brubeck, Beatles, B.B., and Beyonce. And that's just the B's.

For advanced students and students of music production, the sky is the limit. Jazz and Blues improvisation, playing in groups, recording, composing and producing. Whatever your instrument. It's what I do, and it's what I teach.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Church location: gathering room tables couches, television for parents, grand piano in sanctuary (multipurpose room) Audio workstation for digital recording, computers, microphones, recording studio gear.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have a keyboard or piano.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in jazz improvisation, blues, rock and classical piano, and music production. I have 20 years of experience writing television underscores for long form (hour long+) and docudrama productions on A&E Network and most of the local channels in the Chicago area. I have also scored two films.

Jeffrey H.

Evanston, IL

I offer contemporary music instruction for the Hammond Organ, and focus on theory, organ technique, registration, sight reading, ear training, and improvisation.

About Jeffrey

"Music is the catalyst that helps to enhance the quality of life.We as musicians and educators MUST pass it on."

I am a 27 year practicing professional musician, songwriter, arranger, and music educator. Music is my passion. I currently teach guitar, piano, and organ, and serve as minister of music and staff musician for two Chicago area church congregations. I have played guitar and keyboards for local bands, and am well versed with a variety of musical styles.

*** Lesson Details ***
I specifically tailor my lessons for each student....I do not use a "cookie cutter" lesson style.
To achieve the best lesson approach for the most positive student outcome, I conduct a student assessment during the first lesson (first lessons are free for a limited time) to determine student skills, goals, and objectives. After the assessment, I structure a comprehensive, contemporary lesson plan that includes fundamentals, technique, theory, and songs relative to the lesson in a fun and productive manner that engages the student and promotes his/her creativity.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Acoustic piano (A 440), Hammond X-C3 organ, 6 string acoustic/electric guitar, 6 string classical guitar

*** Travel Equipment ***
My expectation would be that all students I visit in home would have an acoustic piano properly tuned, or a digital piano or keyboard with 88 weighted keys. Guitar students should have a 6 string, acoustic or electric guitar (with an amplifier). I will supply music books and learning materials.

Alex F.

Chicago, IL

I myself am a student of the organ. I would love to be able to share what I have learned for anyone who is curious about the organ, or just wants the experience of playing one. I picked up the organ much more recently (long after I started piano), and this was a challenge for me. I think it is humbling for piano players especially to have experience on the organ - whether or not they are actually good at playing the instrument!

I will provide a binder and any relevant lesson materials.

About Alex

Music started like most people do in 5th grade band. I began with trumpet and guitar. My guitar skills quickly led me to playing in weekly church masses. Eventually before leaving elementary school I took up piano and before long was playing it in church. Now I am director of music at St. Helen's Catholic Church in Chicago and accompany various school and church choirs in the Chicago area.

It may be cliche, but music is my life. Music is an important part of everyone's life. We all enjoy different kinds of music, in different ways - whether that means playing, listening, creating - whateve
r! Music surrounds us - the radio, the train, the bus, the birds - the rhythm of life! Learning more about the music around us and how to interpret it and enjoy it I think is a wonderful way to enrich your life.

Alex thank you for teaching me and helping me learn how to play the guitar. You helped me learn hard music notes at the beginning and helped me learn songs right away. Now I'm learning three more songs with your chord packet. Miss taking classes with you. I hope I get to see you again soon!

Alex was a great teacher and believed in me all the time even if I didn't get the chance to practice my songs or play my scales right. He even let me pick songs I wanted to play when I did good at practice. Alex was patient and supportive and taught me many things. He made me like music even more than I used to and made every lesson exciting and interesting. Overall Alex is a great Music Teacher! :)

I have known Dr. Stanleigh Jones to be an outstanding organist and performer; but it has also been my privilege to know him as an exceptional instructor as well. The profoundness of his knowledge as a performer and instructor blended with his communication skills to explain, are distinctive attributes I greatly admire of him.
I’ve been a student of Dr. Jones for nearly five years now and for me, the most outstanding quality that have motivated me and kept me this long is his patience and understanding. Anyone can find a great performer, but finding a great instructor is not always easy. With Dr. Jones, I am blessed to have found both!

Stan Jones is an amazing organist, composer, arranger, orchestrater , and teacher! He taught me to appreciate organ music. I used to think that Bach's music was glorified finger exercises, until Stan Jones helped me to see the musically expressive side of Bach's music. Now I enjoy playing the music of Bach. Stan Jones is a very gifted teacher!

I have tried piano lessons many times through the years, and the other experiences did not work too well. I am so glad to have such an excellent teacher like Stan. He is patient and encouraging. Those qualities are hard to find in a teacher of his caliber. I started with 2 degrees in Voice Performance, but didn't have the same level of piano skills. Stan can take you from any level, and take you to the next. I certainly recommend Stan as a teacher.
