About Mark

Hello!! My name is Mark and I am YOUR teacher! (YOU just don’t know it yet) Simply put, I love music… every facet of it, in fact! Music has been a huge part of my life! From starting on alto and tenor saxophones as a kid and then learning acoustic and electric guitars, to ripping scorching solos on stage with Chris Cagle and singing background vocals with Reba McEntire, music has always inspired me! Now I hope to inspire you with creative, challenging, and fun lessons!! Long story short, (too late) ☺ at a young age I dove head first into music, but more importantly, the electric guitar! I learned everything about them from how they are constructed to how magnetic pickups make sound come out of an amplifier. Then came the true challenge… I started meeting others like me and ...

Learned and improved my writing

I took songwriting lessons with Mark. I was looking to get to know the form and tools of songwriting to know what people were looking for and to make my songs better. He helped me out so much with music theory as you need that behind all songs and with helping me create some great songs. As i look back at my songs from when I started to now, they have grown and adapted so much for the better. My lyrics flow so much better and I know what people are looking for in the music industry as I have some great songs to show from these lessons. Mark is very smart guy in all music aspects, if your looking for lessons from guitar to songwriting to music theory, I would definitely recommend him. If you are willing to put in the time to learn and get better he will make sure of it!!!

I learned A LOT from Mark!!

Mark is a really knowledgable teacher who cares about your goals and progress. He is also a very patient and laid back person, (which made me feel better about trying new techniques since I was an absolute beginner when we started) and he REALLY took my guitar playing far. Now I understand music theory and how to apply it to my songwriting AND how to improvise over the chord changes in my songs. I'd also have to say he is very humble for how good of a guitar player he really is. You can learn a lot from Mark, and I still use and go through his curriculum. I would definitely recommend him to other students.
Kyle H. Nashville, TN

Guitar is an essential instrument for understanding how music works. Plus, with knowledge of just a few chords, you'll be able to write your own songs!

About Kyle

Having been a musician his whole life, and a bassist since the time he was 15 years old, Kyle elected to attend Berklee College of Music on partial scholarship after graduating high school. This allowed him the opportunity to study with the likes of Whit Browne and Anthony Vitti. Summer breaks from school allowed Kyle to complete professional contracts as a working bass player, including playing in Hersheypark’s “Frontier Frenzy” (2010), Holland America Cruiseline’s “The Neptunes” (2011), and Boston’s “The Honeymooners” (2012). After graduating Berklee Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Music Education (December 2012), Kyle decided to move from his childhood home in Connecticut to Nashville, TN to further his career as a bassist and teacher. Once he arrived in Nashville, he was immediately

Kyle is a great bass teacher. He always made sure that I understood the material and what I was supposed to practice during the week. I progressed more with Kyle than with either of my prior 2 teachers. He also always has a smile on his face! Take lessons from Kyle!

Kyle was great!

I just took my first guitar lesson with Kyle and he was awesome. Very patient, even when I got frustrated with myself. He taught me how to solo on the blues during my very first lesson and got me using a pick for the very first time. Kyle's lesson was engaging and enjoyable.

He is a superior teacher! His musical ability is sine qua non. His ability makes it easy for me to learn from him. He began early with the cello, which he plays beautifully. He has also mastered other instruments. We play duets together and I enjoy playing with him very much. His theory is excellent; I have learned so much being his student. He has made me better and I feel more confident about my own playing and about myself.

I would definitely rate Jonah a 5 star teacher and would strongly recommend him to others.

We are so pleased with the instruction our son received this summer with Jonah. He is excellent with students. You can tell he cares about their progress and their personal goals and that they really learn with him as their teacher. We have taken lessons with other music teachers in the past with our older children, and we have not found one that takes as much time with the student and really cares that they learn the way Jonah has.

Laid back guy, great with kids, excellent musical knowledge

Jonah works with both of our sons teaching piano. He is positive and upbeat and encourages them to do their best. His credentials are impeccable with a wide-ranging and deep musical background/education. He expects success from the kids, he gently pushes them to succeed. He is always on time to our house and is trustworthy. We highly recommend Jonah.

About Matthew

An Ohio native, I began playing guitar when I was 6 and came from a musical family. I am an active performer, producer, and composer. My goal as a teacher is to foster a lifelong interest in music and give my students the tools they need to develop their art. If you want to get the most out of your practice time and build a solid foundation on which you can continually develop, a great teacher can accelerate your development and get you where you want to be. If you are a beginner or even a seasoned player looking to advance your playing, knowing which direction to go and how to continue developing can be a challenge. Methods are many, principals are few. Understanding how music works will allow you to become your own teacher in the long run and that is my goal with all of my students.

So far I've had a few lessons with Matt and not only is he a great instructor, but also a great guy who is eager to engage with his students beyond just learning to play guitar. I came into the lessons with absolutely no knowledge of how to actually play – I was a fan and that was it – but I feel comfortable playing chords and scales after a few lessons. I look forward to my future lessons with Matt and definitely recommend him as a teacher.
Jamie H. Nashville, TN

I teach guitar to beginners with an emphasis on basic theory, chord structure, and songwriting/playing.

About Jamie

Hello! I'm Jamie, and I love music! I started teaching drum lessons to kids around my neighborhood when I was in high school, and have kept doing so on-and-off for the past several years. I like to focus on giving each student a strong understanding of the basics of drums and drum set playing (theory, notation, rhythm, grooves, beats, etc.), and play to each students strengths and interests. I like to think of my self as a big, bearded man-child, so kids like me, and I like them. As for guitar, I am mostly self-taught. I took a beginner course in high school, and have been learning along the way on my own ever since. I play rhythm guitar, and I like to think that my drumming informs my guitar playing to a great extent. I am very groove-oriented, rhythm is what gets me going!

Georgia E. Nashville, TN

I have been teaching guitar for five years.
By the end of their first lesson, the student will be able to play a song off of paper.
I believe in exploration as a road to mastery, encouraging students to think about scales, music theory and technique as tools to communicate.
I teach rock, pop, blues, and ragtime, and use the students' favorite music as a jumping board.
Students are encouraged to write songs, make albums, and perform as a part of my curriculum.

About Georgia

Hi! My name is Georgia E. I have been teaching private lessons for the past five years in Boston, and have recently relocated to Nashville. I went to Berklee College of Music with a degree in Songwriting and teach voice, guitar, bass, music theory, and songwriting. I have enjoyed watching my young students go from beginners to advanced musicians in their age groups, write songs, and thrive in performances. I believe in exploration as a road to mastery, and as such, much of my lessons revolve around age and skill appropriate projects that I coach the students through. These have included all-original albums, recordings of covers, recitals, and student-planned concerts. My approach is to empower young students, and show them the joy and focus that goes into making music.

Georgia is passionate about music and her enthusiasm and energy are displayed at every lesson. She entices the children to explore a variety of music styles and encourages them to be creative. What I mostly love about Georgia is her natural ability to connect with the children. She not only teaches the fundamental techniques required, but encourages them to explore their own interest and style while developing their knowledge base of music theory.

I witnessed my children mature as little musicians and thrive under her direction. I have seen them flourish and become confident with every piece they play. I can’t thank Georgia enough for the great work she has done. I have seen my youngest daughter go from never having picked up a guitar to now singing and playing everything from Katie Perry to Elvis Presley, and Gypsy Jazz is her new found passion!
