Jamie H.

Nashville, TN

I teach beginner to intermediate drums students who want to work up to more advanced playing.

About Jamie

Hello! I'm Jamie, and I love music!

I started teaching drum lessons to kids around my neighborhood when I was in high school, and have kept doing so on-and-off for the past several years. I like to focus on giving each student a strong understanding of the basics of drums and drum set playing (theory, notation, rhythm, grooves, beats, etc.), and play to each students strengths and interests. I like to think of my self as a big, bearded man-child, so kids like me, and I like them.

As for guitar, I am mostly self-taught. I took a beginner course in high school, and have been learning a
long the way on my own ever since. I play rhythm guitar, and I like to think that my drumming informs my guitar playing to a great extent. I am very groove-oriented, rhythm is what gets me going!

I've played with many bands over the years and been a part of many live performance and studio recording projects. I am a former student of The Berklee College of Music, and have been playing and studying drums for 10 years, guitar for 6 years.

I'm easy-going, flexible, reliable, and an all-around lover of music. Let's jam!

Jamie is great Instructor. I took 10 lessons from him and we started all from basics. I felt lot of improvement after the lessons and now I am able to play few songs on my own. It has been a great experience with Jamie and I wish him all the best for his future & success.

Ross R.

Nashville, TN

When you have rhythm....who needs music? The drum is the most fun of all, no blowing, plucking, or bowing...just beat on it! There is literally rhythm everywhere at all times, and I can help you play along.

About Ross

As a graduate of University of Memphis (Bachelor of Music, composition/percussion, 1983), I have since been a professional musician for over thirty years, performing in 49 out of 50 United States, Canada, U.K., Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore, and on over 100 nationally released recordings. I believe everyone has music inside that needs to be nurtured and shared, so I began teaching contemporary keyboard lessons privately in upstate New York starting in 2010. In 2012 I was invited to be the main keyboard teacher at the Paul Green Rock Academy in Woodstock NY, whose namesake was the original fou
nder of the School of Rock franchise, and within the first year helped to quadruple the student body, while guiding them through learning the demanding music of Yes, Queen, and Frank Zappa. Now returned to Nashville, I am looking forward to teaching--and being inspired by--interested students in the Music City! From piano to organ to the latest in synthesizers and samplers...I can help!

Matthew N.

Nashville, TN

Over 3 years of teaching experience

Curriculum emphasizes the development of student's snare drum fundamentals. Once a student has gained proficiency on one drum, those mechanics can be transformed into drum set navigation.

Reading music as well as playing by ear are both necessary skills for success on the drum set. When combined properly, a student can then improvise (play what comes to mind) tastefully.

Improving should always be fun! Motivation is everything.

About Matthew

Young, high-energy drum instructor based in Music City, USA with over 7 years of professional performance experience. Degree in Jazz Performance (B.M.) from Loyola University New Orleans- studied under New Orleans drumming legends Johnny Vidacovich and Wayne Maureau. 4 years of touring, recording, and writing experience with The Morrison Brothers Band. Over three years teaching experience and knowledgeable in the drumming styles of Rock, Blues, Jazz, New Orleans, Country, Funk, Brazilian, and Salsa. Writer/Co-Writer of several original songs recorded by major label recording artists and/or use
d on prime time national television programs.

Aaron T.

Nashville, TN

I consider myself a coach rather than a teacher. Rhythm is about breathing, posture, and attitude! Play like you mean it.

I base a lot of my teaching in the essentials like rudiments, the Moelor hand technique, relaxed stick control, independence, feels etc. This approach allows the drumming muscles and mind to work with multiple styles.

I instruct using songs and exercises. I will guide you whatever way you choose to go!

About Aaron

Hi I'm Aaron! I started out playing drums to my brother's Led Zeppelin tapes and my dad's soul record collection. My first ever private lesson I remember learning some awesome pointers to play the song "I feel good" by James Brown. I remember that day I felt empowered as a player. Like I had what it takes. And I was given some knowledge of how to get me there.

Every student has an ambition to play a certain way. To have a certain THING. I help guide them with skills and techniques to reach those goals. I'm not just a teacher, I'm a drum coach.

Not only will you be learning the essentia
ls, rudiments, hand technique, feel & timing, etc, But you will also be taking home a different perspective, posture, and attitude to playing the drums.

I've toured and recorded for over 10 years now. I bring my experience and my early teachings with me. I coach those who want to take this to a professional level and also to those wanting to get a better understanding of the instrument.

I actually had a drum instructor before I started with Aaron and ended up ditching him because Aaron was ten times better. I didn't feel like I was in a boring classroom lecture, I was hands-on and learning to play music that I loved. While learning all the basic techniques I also had the freedom to be myself in the process, which I'm a big fan of. Would recommend him to anyone! Great guy. 5 stars.
