Zander W.

Nashville, TN

Scruggs style 5 string banjo, melodic style and single string style

About Zander

I am a Nashville session musician, sideman and music teacher. I received a Bachelor of Music degree in Commercial Music with a Composition and Arranging Emphasis from Belmont University and I am currently pursuing a Masters in Music at MTSU. Coming from a family of Classical and Jazz musicians, I have been exposed to music my whole life. Over the years I have had the opportunity to play and record with many great bands and artists ranging from Country/Bluegrass to Rock to Jazz. I teach all genres of guitar, bass, banjo ukulele and mandolin.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe the ability to
play an instrument is only part of musicianship. I also strive to teach my students the theory behind the music they learn. I work hard to make sure that my students are doing everything in the easiest way possible. I want to ensure that they are able to progress quickly enough so that they can see the difference. The most rewarding moment as a teacher is when a student points out how hard something once was and how easy it has become.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music store environment. No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I travel with all teaching equipment needed but a music stand is recommended for the lessons and for practicing.

*** Specialties ***
I am a very versatile teacher and player but I am often recommended based on my knowledge of Gypsy Jazz, Swing, bluegrass, country and rock teaching acoustic guitar, electric guitar, banjo, mandolin and ukulele

Meredith W.

Nashville, TN

I specialize in clawhammer banjo style. I do not teach two or three finger banjo, though I have many friends that are experts in the subject and I can point you in the right direction if that is what you wish to learn.

About Meredith

Meredith was born in Boston, Massachusetts where, at the age of three, she began studying classical dance at the Boston Ballet School. Through her years of dance performance, she developed a love of the performing arts in general, and sought out an education in theater and music. She was selected to attend the prestigious National High School Institute at Northwestern University, where she studied Theater Arts, and subsequently received her BFA in Acting and Music from the Tisch School of the Performing Arts at New York University. While attending NYU, she met acclaimed Bel Canto vocal c
oach Jeff Halpern, with whom she studied privately for seven years. She has spent the last three years teaching fiddle and guitar at the Junior Appalachian Musician's program in Black Mountain, NC, as well as touring both nationally and internationally with her old-time/bluegrass band, Locust Honey.

Caleb worked very well with my Son Grant. He was a 15 year old beginner and was really able to help get him engaged and have fun while learning.

Billy F.

Nashville, TN

My main area of expertise is three-finger style banjo. I teach Scruggs, melodic and single-string styles. My main objective is to give students a framework to develop their own musical personality and have the tools to learn music on the banjo in any style or genre.

About Billy

I have been a guitar and banjo instructor since 2011, teaching students of all ages and skill levels. Though my main area of expertise is in bluegrass and related genres, I work with students to develop a solid foundation that can be carried over into any style of music.

In banjo lessons, I focus on the fundamentals of three-finger and clawhammer technique, learning tunes by ear and from tab as well as developing improvisation.

In guitar lessons, I start students with the basics of flatpicking technique, rhythm playing, learning by ear, constructing melodies and improvisation.

Though
I usually provide lesson plans, I also work to accomodate students needs on an individual basis.

About me:
I have worked all over the country as a freelance banjo and guitar player for the past five years. In 2013, I received my bachelor's degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston, with an emphasis in performance and teaching.
