I have been performing on the horn for 15 years now. In 2017 I graduated from UCLA with my Masters degree in French horn performance. In 2010, I graduated from Chapman University with my music education and music performance degree on French horn. I enjoy helping other French hornist master this instrument and hope they find the love and fun in playing this beast of an instrument!

About Beckie
Hi!
My name is Beckie and I have played music for all of my life. I play and teach many different instruments such as the French horn, trumpet, piano, saxophone, mandolin, guitar, and voice.

I have my Masters in Music on French horn as well as two bachelor degrees in music performance on French horn and music education.

My first job was as at a Montessori Academy elementary school, where I was the brass coach for 3 years. This is where I fell in love with teaching. I have been teaching privately for 16 years now and love the one-on-one attention that I can give the students.

I have worked with many great organizations like the Los Angeles Philharmonic and various music studios/orchestras around Los Angeles.

I currently am a freelance musician, Elementary school music teacher, brass coach for two local high schools and a p
rivate music teacher! I perform with orchestras and groups all around the Los Angeles area. I have performed in such wonderful venues as the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Sydney Opera house, in which I was able to premier a piece!

I look forward to working with you or your child in helping to start or continue a musical instrument!

*** Lesson Details ***
When I teach lessons, I like to check in with the student to see how their day was and how practicing throughout the week went. I am very patient and will teach at the student's pace. I expect the student to practice during the week, even if for just 10 minutes a day. I will always work with a student as long as it takes to have them understand what is difficult for them musically.

For music, I like to use books. When we choose a book to play out of, I like to choose a book together so that the parent and the child are happy about the selection. Books vary based on what the needs are for each student. Books are to be purchased by the parent.

I usually play my instruments with the students, but being a freelance musician, I may need to save my chops for an upcoming gig. Not always, but happens from time to time :)

I also have a 24-hour cancellation/lesson change policy. If you are late for your lesson, I will try to accommodate the time but may have students or rehearsals afterward so it will not always be a guarantee. If you are going to be late, please text me BEFORE the scheduled lesson and make sure I confirm that I received your message. Lessons are to be every week as I DO NOT teach bi-weekly lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lesson space is in my home w/ seating for parents and music stand for students. I also have a cat and a dog, so if you are allergic, please let me know! The dog and the cat are put away for the lessons as to not distract either one of us! They are pretty cute, though!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to provide music books and their own instruments and music stand.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical genres of playing but I am able to teach all different styles of music.

Outstanding instructor! Beckie is very positive and encouraging and my son has learned so much in just a few weeks. My son looks forward to his session each week. She is also an amazing musician herself and plays her instrument side by side with my son which allows him to hear and learn the individual notes.

A graduate of the famous Curtis Institute of Music, Lori A has played all over the world. She has played with greats such as Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross, Pavarotti, and Leonard Bernstein. After being invited to the White House, she performed for President Reagan.
Lessons incorporate fun songs plus technique.

About Lori
Hello! Thank you for your interest in my profile.
I teach piano, horn, trumpet, theory & ear training, and coach ensembles, performance class as well as music and movement class for ages 0-6, and drum circle and cultural literacy for adults.

I am a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, and I've played all over the world. I've played with soloists from Frank Sinatra to Diana Ross, Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons to Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo. I still perform and consider this important to my teaching as well.

Some major accomplishments include an invitation to the White House, over 50 solo performances with orchestras starting with The Philadelphia Orchestra at age 15, a performance for the Princess of Thailand, and early television performances starting at age 7. In order to accomplish these things, I had great teach
ers, a regimen of discipline and practice, an expectation I have of my students, and all the rewards that have lasted a lifetime. Properly taught music lessons are life lessons and are never a waste. I incorporate fun into the lessons as discipline and fun must be combined for success and enjoyment at all levels.

My teachers included Eleanor Sokoloff, Susan Starr, and Dale Clevenger.

I've taught for 29 years, and have a proven track record of success. I've taught at Universities including The University of Notre Dame, The University of Tennessee, The Chinese University and the Academy of Performing Arts in Hong Kong. I adore my students. Each one needs to be assessed and taught differently. Something you cannot learn in school, only through years of experience!

I teach in Avondale-Kennet Square-Chaddsford, Bryn Mawr-Villanova, PA, Hockessin-Wilmington,, DE, Newark, DE, and Cherry Hill, NJ with possibility of travel 10 minutes away. Please note: If you want in home piano lessons, you need a reasonably high quality instrument, and must maintain the tuning. I have perfect pitch and it will be crucial to me.

While I had previous experience playing an instrument MANY years ago, I never played the piano and started taking lessons with Lori as an adult. In almost no time I was able to read the bass clef (left hand) notes and within the year I had learned all the scales (majors and relative minors - both harmonic and melodic) and arpeggios (root and inversions). I was also playing "real" pieces of music.

Lori stresses good technique and good practice habits and can suggest more than one way to master a concept. She also makes learning the piano fun.

I am a musician with expierence playing with professional orchestras and chamber groups. I have spent 5 years teaching privately and held positions teaching in the public schools. In my lessons we not only focus on having good sound, technique, and musicianship but also having fun while playing the instrument! It is my goal to bring the students personality out through their music.

About Chris
Hello! Let me start by thanking you for your interest in private horn lessons! They are a great way to express yourself or make band class at school even more fun by staying ahead of the curve.

I started my career at Florida State University and majored in both Music Education and Horn Performance. During my four years at Florida State I performed at two international horn conferences, a regional and national College Band Directors Association convention, and competed at two southeastern horn workshops. While in Tallahassee, I won the 2nd horn position with the Tallahassee Symphony and section horn with the Sinfonia Gulf Coast. I also received numerous honors including the Big Arts Classical Music Scholarship and runner up for the Florida State Young Artist Concerto Competition. After graduating in 2017 I was awarded the graduate bras
s quintet fellowship at The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where I continue to grow as musician under the guidance of world-renown hornist and pedagogue Denise Tryon.

During my performance career I spent my spare time teaching students! From 2014 to now I have taught many private students some of which have performed with honor ensembles. I also taught in the Florida Public School system in 2018 as a brass clinician and orchestra director. It is extremely important for a teacher to have both playing and instructional experience which is a quality I take pride in.

I am well equipped to teach a variety of skill levels across several instrument groups, covering basic fundamentals to advanced performing techniques. I instruct students on how to be good musicians at all times and stress the importance of individual practicing. My students are given weekly performance assignments outside of their school coursework, and receive assistance in their preparation for upcoming school concerts, honor band auditions, and recitals.

About Elliott
Hello there! My name is Elliott Stanger and I currently reside in Greensboro, North Carolina. I am the principal horn in the Durham Symphony and I am on the music faculty at Mitchell Community College. I have also performed with the North Carolina Symphony, Charlotte Symphony, Greensboro Symphony, Raleigh Symphony, North Carolina Brass Band, Greensboro Opera, and annual productions at the Triad Stage and Carolina Theater. I am currently finishing up my Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Several of my students have won college scholarships, as well as positions in local honor bands and youth symphonies.

Lessons with me will be engaging, informative, and fun. My favorite moment while teaching is watching a student light up when they finally get a concept or nail a passage they've been working on
. I love talking in metaphors and will often try to use a student's favorite hobby, sport, video game, etc. to find the best possible way to explain a difficult concept or describe exactly what I want them to do.

I set clear goals for each lesson and expect the students to try their best to meet them. I don't expect perfection, but I do expect them to put in the effort. No musician will tell you that they "work" their instrument. We practice and play our instrument, just like an athlete practices and plays their sport. Effort is involved, but it doesn't have to be work!

I encourage my students to love their instrument, their music-making, and learning, no matter what age or background they come from. I am always available via email or text to communicate with students and parents to ensure that we stay on the same page and know what is expected from one another.
