Mike S.

Sherman Oaks, CA

I teach how to make recordings sound good!

About Mike

I have taught private guitar, piano, bass and drum lessons since the late 70s in Salt Lake City, where I majored in jazz guitar performance, and since 1980 in Los Angeles. I make the lessons fun. Some of my students have received college scholarships and won cash prizes for music contests. All of them had fun while learning and improving on their instruments. *** Lesson Details *** I am very enthusiastic and can teach students how to read. If they do not want to read music, they can learn to play by ear. I can also show them where to put their fingers. During piano lessons, I often accompany students on guitar and suggest a scale for improvisation, so they can play the blues. During drum lessons, I often play bass so they can learn to groove. *** Travel Equipment *** They should have

I've been taking lessons from Mike for about 6 months now and his enthusiasm and supportive approach are invaluable. This is my 3rd time trying lessons and the first time I've continued past the first couple sessions. And the reason is Mike. He's extremely talented, but more importantly, he's a phenomenal teacher. He explains things simply, concisely, and effectively. I leave every lesson enthused and excited to go home and practice. I can't recommend him highly enough. Mike's the man!

Guitar
Mike S will teach you how to allow yourself to learn a new instrument!

Mike really is incredible. The guitar looked so complicated and confusing before I met Mike. He really teaches you how to allow yourself to learn a new instrument. Within a month I was improvising over simple changes with my own ideas! And within 2 or 3 months, the amount of chord structures I had at my disposal was mind blowing. The speed at which I became comfortable with the instrument was amazing. I really believe that Mike's simple teaching style really was a key part in my ability to play and grow on a new instrument. Other than that, he is one of the greatest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet and play with. He gives so much of his time to his community by teaching anyone from child to infinity and even bringing them together to create bands to showcase every persons different talents. He is a beautiful human being and I do actively suggest him to anyone that tells me they want to learn either piano, guitar, or bass.

AMAZING music teacher!

I have been taking lessons with Mike since I was age 5, and am now age 25. Mike was the first person to make me feel passion and love for music. He helped me discover my talent by allowing and encouraging me to play by ear and was always incredibly supportive, patient, and kind. Lessons with Mike make me eager to practice the piano daily and I have ALWAYS looked forward to our next lesson together because of the fun and easy-going environment he creates. If it weren't for Mike, I would not continue to play the piano as often as I do as an adult. He goes above and beyond for his students and I would HIGHLY recommend him as a teacher. I know I will take lessons from him for as long as he's still teaching!

Super Helpful!

I am always hesitant to take lessons from anyone. I have had bad experiences in the past where I leave a session feeling defeated because the teacher was impatient. I must say, after leaving my first lesson with Felice, I felt excited about the next!

Patrick S.

Sylmar, CA

I have my own Studio and have trained at Berklee School of Music

About Patrick

The Vocal Artist A rare 'natural' tenor, Patrick's range and versatility are evidenced throughout his work. From Bach Cantatas to Broadway tunes, he's even dared to sing Denver, bringing audiences to tears with his own rendition of Annie's Song. He is a torch song tenor, a la Rondstadt's 'Round Midnight but with the power and passion of Pavarotti. Like most classically-trained tenors, Patrick can list many of the master works among his repertoire. Starting with Michigan Opera Theatre's Opera-in-Residence program, he performed in Madame Butterfly, Die Fledermaus and The Mikado and others. In Detroit & Windsor Ontario, he performed Bach, Schubert, Handel, Dubois, Mozart and Dvorak. While Patrick's early career focused on classical sacred performances, his real passion is to ...

Awesome!

I needed to practice a solo for my Easter Vigil Psalm performance, and he helped me take care of my instrument, taught me great exercises, and gave me good advice about my career. He is a very nice instructor. He will help you grow as a singer and performer, and you always learn something new everyday with him...I highly recommend him to everyone because he really knows music theory.

"From your mouth to Patrick's ear*...

I was looking for an experienced and patient teacher, one who really listens, and am lucky enough to be able to work with Patrick. He not only hears the singing, but has the flexibility and talent to adapt to the needs and concerns of the singer. Highly recommended. *"From your mouth to G*d's ear," is a Jewish expression meaning, "May what you just said be true!"

Classical Guitar

When I started taking lessons from Ray I was playing the electric guitar, although I had a classical guitar in my house I did not play it that often. I took my classical guitar once to class and then I started to learn how to play the classical guitar. I went from playing basic peaces of music to playing Minuet in G in a short time. From playing electric guitar about 3 or 4 years to playing classical music in about 1.5 to 2 years. Ray has helped me to increase my knowledge of music.

Piano · In studio
Mark has been my teacher, mentor and friend for over 2 years now. It all started at The Los Angeles Recordin School where he was the instructor of my class, Digital Audio Essentials. I attended the school to further my skill sets as an electronic dance music producer/songwriter and synthesis programmer. My mission was/is to broaden my classical and musical pallet (musicianship) with music theory and play fluently (intuitively) on the piano. Mark heard me out and continues to provide priceless knowledge which guides me in the direction of success. I see immediate results. It is amazing what you can learn in 1 hour. The teaching does not stop at just piano or music theory - I ask questions about anything music or audio related and receive rich insight. (synthesis, sound design, philosophy, tech, workflow, arrangement, song feedback, mixing, mastering and composing etc.)

After I graduated school the education continued and I started to take Piano/Composition/Songwriting lessons in his studio (The Synatarium). That was when my skill set and knowledge skyrocketed.
Not only that but his studio is INCREDIBLY inspiring to just sit and look at, if you are a gear fanatic.

I realized that learning music is a constant evolution and I will always be improving and raising the bar.

Most of all, Mark works with you and not for you. He tailors the cericulim custom to an individuals visions, goals, personality, schedule and teaches you knowledge you can apply immediately.

I would recommend this teacher to anyone! Message me if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Robert
