I've been taking lessons from Mike for about 6 months now and his enthusiasm and supportive approach are invaluable. This is my 3rd time trying lessons and the first time I've continued past the first couple sessions. And the reason is Mike. He's extremely talented, but more importantly, he's a phenomenal teacher. He explains things simply, concisely, and effectively. I leave every lesson enthused and excited to go home and practice. I can't recommend him highly enough. Mike's the man!

Mike really is incredible. The guitar looked so complicated and confusing before I met Mike. He really teaches you how to allow yourself to learn a new instrument. Within a month I was improvising over simple changes with my own ideas! And within 2 or 3 months, the amount of chord structures I had at my disposal was mind blowing. The speed at which I became comfortable with the instrument was amazing. I really believe that Mike's simple teaching style really was a key part in my ability to play and grow on a new instrument. Other than that, he is one of the greatest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet and play with. He gives so much of his time to his community by teaching anyone from child to infinity and even bringing them together to create bands to showcase every persons different talents. AMAZING music teacher!
I have been taking lessons with Mike since I was age 5, and am now age 25. Mike was the first person to make me feel passion and love for music. He helped me discover my talent by allowing and encouraging me to play by ear and was always incredibly supportive, patient, and kind. Lessons with Mike make me eager to practice the piano daily and I have ALWAYS looked forward to our next lesson together because of the fun and easy-going environment he creates. If it weren't for Mike, I would not continue to play the piano as often as I do as an adult. He goes above and beyond for his students and I would HIGHLY recommend him as a teacher. A rare 'natural' tenor, Patrick's range and versatility are evidenced throughout his work. From Bach Cantatas to Broadway tunes, he's even dared to sing Denver, bringing audiences to tears with his own rendition of Annie's Song. He is a torch song tenor, a la Rondstadt's 'Round Midnight but with the power and passion of Pavarotti.
Like most classically-trained tenors, Patrick can list many of the master works among his repertoire. Starting with Michigan Opera Theatre's Opera-in-Residence program, he performed in Madame Butterfly, Die Fledermaus and The Mikado and oth
ers. In Detroit & Windsor Ontario, he performed Bach, Schubert, Handel, Dubois, Mozart and Dvorak. While Patrick's early career focused on classical sacred performances, his real passion is to re-create traditional music in new ways. He recorded his first two albums with composer Yves Vincent of San Diego, California in genre-stretching new-age/classical style.
After relocating to Tucson, Arizona, as music director for his church, he encouraged a variety of styles and genres to be used by the musicians and choirs of each of five weekend Masses. Later, in Illinois, he directed another 60 voice parish choir that frequently performed with orchestras from Illinois State & Wesleyan Universities. His voice students in all these locations have been encouraged to explore and develop their own unique expression of their favorite music, while building on a solid foundation of technique, vocal strength and musicianship.
Now that Patrick has relocated one more time to Los Angeles, CA, he is working on a 3rd and 4th CD and once again accepting students. He enjoys the opportunity to expose young & older talent to the power and passion of classical music while also helping them create ways to make it new and exciting by reinterpreting it with their own favorite genres.
Patrick's passion for teaching comes from his philosophy of music: "Music is humanity's most evolved form of expression and communication. Music includes language, our physical senses, and our sense of meaning. With music, ordinary language is ultimately transcended. Words communicate from mind to mind; music communicates to the depth of the soul."
Patrick teaches and encourages young beginners as well as coaching and challenging seasoned professionals. He has even taught a hearing-impaired student to use physical sensation rather than sound to sing on pitch! He focuses on fundamentals of breath, technique and strength to help singers take care of their irreplaceable instrument. (Patrick's own vocal coach, Edward Kingins, continues to perform and move audiences in Detroit well in to his 70s!) Along with helping students build a strong foundation, he nurtures a love and commitment to music by working with students in the style and genre they enjoy most, from rock to pop, jazz or country.
Patrick also has unique insight into the entertainment industry, both in Los Angeles and across the country. Over the years, he has been associated with and close friends with musicians and actors such as John Denver and Richard Hatch as well as sought-after speakers Tom Crum and W Mitchell. Since locating to L.A., he has worked in independent movies with Damian Chapa and David Carradine as an actor and production assistant and coordinator. This experience, coupled with his own success on stage and as a recording artist helps him guide and advise serious young talent to maneuver the crazy environment of Hollywood and avoid the scams and pitfalls of the entertainment industry.

My Basic lesson outline is to determine where we are starting with each student and custom make lessons designed to fit the needs for that student. We will also work on meditation and visualization techniques for performance. The idea is for you to feel the words and sing with passion or so your audience believes your song.
Unlike other instruments, your voice cannot be replaced if it is damaged. I take the time needed through each step of the process so your voice is strengthened and developed properly. It is up to the student to practice and apply what is learned and build a trained, strong instrument that will be useable for your whole life.
You will learn:
Proper breathing techniques and practice. Properly warming up the voice. Working on music theory (reading music, etc.) Ear training and pitch. Expression, phrasing and performing. Applying techniques learned to music suitable for student's capabilities. Learning to have fun and enjoy the music experience. Confidence and self-esteem

I attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston, and I have a BA in Music. I am a working pro musician, regularly playing all different kinds of gigs with different bands, as well as solo, and regular gigs on TV. I have taught music lessons, and guitar in particular, for 18 years. I play all styles, but my favorites are Rock, R&B, Country, Rockabilly, and Blues (I also enjoy playing jazz, classical, and other styles as well). My main instruments are guitar (electric and acoustic) and voice, but I play keyboards, bass, mandolin, and drums also.

Highly recommended: Amazing teacher!
Mike is a patient, supportive and incredibly talented teacher. From music theory to practical application, he's got all the answers... And he makes learning fun!
I took guitar lessons more than ten years ago and found it frustrating and I was terribly uninspired. Recently I took my old guitar out of mothballs and was determined to make some progress on the dang thing. A good friend recommended Mike and I've been taking lessons for nine months with him.
What's great about Mike is that he customizes my lessons. I'm not learning out of a book (which, I could if wanted) but I'm learning the songs that I love and learning the theory behind the chords, too. Then he keeps building on what we just learned. I go home from my hour lessons and play for another two hours because I'm so inspired.
I can't recommend Mike highly enough. He's a gem of a music instructor in the concrete jungle of Los Angeles.

When I started taking lessons from Ray I was playing the electric guitar, although I had a classical guitar in my house I did not play it that often. I took my classical guitar once to class and then I started to learn how to play the classical guitar. I went from playing basic peaces of music to playing Minuet in G in a short time. From playing electric guitar about 3 or 4 years to playing classical music in about 1.5 to 2 years. Ray has helped me to increase my knowledge of music.
No matter what medium you choose to capture your art, at some point, your song, composition, beat, or spoken word must be recorded. There are some basic things to understand when the time comes to see the flashing red light. I can navigate those waters with you and show you methods that not only work but can make you sound great!

I have been in the "music business" and performing for more than 50 years. I started performing and recording in 1964. In 2005 I moved to Beverly Hills and wanted to build a digital studio. I had produced only in analog and had a very minimal knowledge of computers. When I decided to go with Pro Tools I called friends that had already produced many hit projects on that system. Although they had their own creative knowledge and "tricks", as teachers they left me more confused than capable. Then one day a member of Tupac's crew called and, upon hearing my problem, recomended me to Mark.
Right away Mark advised me as to which components would become compatable with the studio I had in mind. The gear he recommended back then remains "studio standard" quality today.
Mark, patiently , began with the basics.First he taught "troubleshooting" and "keyboard commands" . I learned to "back-up" and protect my music. Eventually I could use all the moves I learned to maneuver creatively through recordings. In sessions problems occur, and, amazingly I can handle most of them. When I can't I can always call Mark. That, alone, is invaluable. We have remained friends for 10 years and now that it is time to upgrade my system, Mark is still the one person whose advice I trust .

Mark has been my teacher, mentor and friend for over 2 years now. It all started at The Los Angeles Recordin School where he was the instructor of my class, Digital Audio Essentials. I attended the school to further my skill sets as an electronic dance music producer/songwriter and synthesis programmer. My mission was/is to broaden my classical and musical pallet (musicianship) with music theory and play fluently (intuitively) on the piano. Mark heard me out and continues to provide priceless knowledge which guides me in the direction of success. I see immediate results. It is amazing what you can learn in 1 hour. HUMBLE. This is hugely important. There is not a pretentious bone in his body. Cody is great at what he does but is not afraid to ask for help from people who might know more about whatever aspect of the music creation process specific to the artist. There is no “I’m the producer and I know more than you” attitude. Instead, his attitude is very much of equality where both parties understand the strengths that they bring to the table.

EFFICIENT. Mostly I sat in awe and watched Cody click and move stuff.
COMMITTED. Even when he didn't have to, Cody would work on my track in his free time meticulously making sure everything was how it should sound and also just to make sure there wasn't any territory we had overlooked.
And that's just naming a few.
All in all, Cody brings a child-like spirit of wonder to his sessions - where the song is not a job or a chore, but a new world waiting to be explored, full of possibilities waiting to be uncovered. And that excitedness and spirit of discovery is KEY to sustaining creativity in a studio environment. Not only does it make the whole process productive, it makes it FUN.
