Stephanie M.

Boston, MA

Instruction for fundamentals and techniques of clarinet as a primary instrument (or doubling instrument) in both classical and jazz styles.

About Stephanie

Hello, and thank you for your interest!

My name is Stephanie, I am a teaching-artist from El Paso, Texas. I currently reside, perform and teach in the Boston and greater Boston area.

I am a recent graduate of The New England Conservatory of Music with my Masters in Saxophone Performance. I received my Bacherlors in Music Education from New Mexico State University.

“A teaching artist, by definition, is a two-career professional: a working artist and a working educator. As a working artist is they are involved in an ongoing process of discovery, problem solving, discipline and refineme
nt of skills in their discipline. As a working educator, it is essential that the artist is also developing a knowledge base and skills to be an effective partner in education. Achieving a meaningful balance between these two professions, whereby one feeds the other, is an ongoing process that requires a deepening awareness for the teaching artist of what their teaching brings to their art and what their art teaches them about learning.”

I am devoted and dedicated to helping find each of my students strengths, weaknesses and style of learning. Once I have identified these traits, I am able to develop lessons and repertoire that helps each students become the most efficient learner and best musician they can be.

I pride myself in creating a fun and safe learning environment in which I establish a firm musical foundation for my students. Lessons include: scales, etudes, articulation, dynamic and sight reading exercises, standard saxophone repertoire, recording and analyzing performances, saxophone/music history lessons, and exploration of the sounds, genres and artists of the saxophone.

Simultaneously, my students cultivate many other skills while learning how to play saxophone. Students enhance their fine motor skills and ability to memorize, students increase their overall self-confidence and become self-sufficient and creative problem solvers. I am passionate about educating and empowering my students and I enjoy connecting with a wide array of musicians of all ages, playing levels and backgrounds.

Feel free to contact me to inquire about lessons, I hope to hear from you soon!

Stephanie

She is patient and tries to find new and creative ways to improve learning. She doesnt just teach to simply learn just enough to play an instrument but rather to master not only the instrument but the whole philosophy and theory around music as well..Simply put her teaching style is that of attending a music college but much much less spent and more one on one instruction

I went to New England Conservatory with Stephanie, and I have to say that she is one of the most supportive colleges I have ever met. She is extremely dedicated to her students, even to the point that even in social settings she will be texting her students words of encouragement and asking about their progress. She has an incredible work ethic and an infectiously positive attitude.

Jasmine S.

Jamaica Plain, MA

I will develop a lesson plan based on the needs and wants of each individual student. Each student has skills that they excel in and others that need more practice, and in our earliest lessons we will decide what we need to work on most. Each of my students develop ear training and music theory skills along with their clarinet playing skills. Students can expect to be learning through use of technique strategies, etudes, chamber music and solo repertoire.

About Jasmine

Jasmine S.is a clarinetist and educator based in Boston. Jasmine has appearances with the New England Repertory Orchestra (NERO), collaborated with Berklee film score composers and performed extensively in the Boston Conservatory’s Opera and Dance Orchestras and Wind Ensembles. Jasmine also teaches clarinet lessons and works with projectSTEP, teaching Dalcroze Eurythmics to underrepresented minority children. Jasmine’s past teaching experience includes lesson instruction for undergraduate students and Suzuki instruction.

In Michigan, S. has performed with the Wind Symphony and Symphony Orch
estra alongside outreach performances at local hospitals and educational institutions. S. also had the privilege of collaborating with John Mackey, David Maslanka, John Corigliano and Carter Pann.

S. continues her music studies at the Boston Conservatory. She is in her first year of her Master’s in the Clarinet Performance degree program.

Alexander H.

Brighton, MA

We will focus on good sound production as the basis for intonation and good tone quality from the clarinet. We will study a variety of different exercises to develop fluency on the clarinet in terms of music reading, and playing scales etc. There will also be some time spend on improvisation to develop an ear for music and a comfortable relationship with the clarinet.

About Alexander

I have been teaching and playing music professionally for a little over 5 years. I have performed a variety of genres from Indy, Pop, Latin Jazz, Avant-garde, Jazz, blues and rock to classical styles in Chicago, New York, Dallas, Tokyo, Seoul, and Bangkok. I graduated cum laude from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music before moving to Korea and then Thailand to teach and play music and to teach English, Literature, and ESL classes in a variety of schools. I taught music to students in middle school and high school at the International Pioneers School in Bangko
k, Thailand before relocating to Boston in late 2015. I approach music with a goal of creating a solid Aural foundation so that students can explore and enjoy any styles that they seek to master. I mix in a variety of schools of teaching, with a heavy improvisational anchor and ear training.

Milos B.

Watertown, MA

While teaching I use awareness instruction method, this method encourages students to think, work and study, and practice the instrument on their own. My method is to teach them to "play" with the instrument, in the essential meaning of the verb.

About Milos

Milos Bjelica has performed formal recitals and concerts in the United States, Europe and Serbia. He founded and performed with the Nevsky Clarinet Quartet, making it to the finals of “Serbia’s Got Talent" in 2011. In the same year, her performed in the German-Nordic Youth Philharmonic. He has attended numerous masterclasses with distinguished professors such as Wenzel Fuchs, Frank Cohen, Yuan Yuan, Jonathan Cohler, Philippe Cuper, Mate Bekavac, etc. Milos has worked for nine years in Serbia as a clarinet teacher and a volunteer clarinet instructor for children with disabilities. Hence, the A
ssociation of Music and Ballet Pedagogues of Serbia awarded me with the Best Pedagogue of the Year Award in 2012. Currently, Milos Bjelica is pursuing a Graduate Performance Diploma at the Longy School of Music.

I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Milos during the past year. He is an outstanding musician, clarinet instructor and an amazing person. Milos is really devoted and compromised to his students and is 100% of the time willing to help them improve in the instrument. I strongly recommend him to all students of any ages and levels of playing!

Milos is a great teacher and a great player! He is very supportive, knowledgeable, and dedicated and kids just love him. He explains everything very carefully and always demonstrates with such a beautiful sound. Whether you are a beginner, or more advanced student, Milos would definitely be a great teacher for you. He knows all about the clarinet, the repertoire, including both solo and chamber music, and whether you are 8 years old or 58 years old, I am sure you would learn a lot from Milos!
