I teach students to play all genres of music from beginning to advanced levels.
I can teach to play by reading sheet music and/or by ear (which means to play music without needing the sheet music in front of you)
All Levels are welcome
I started taking music lessons at the age of 9. It began playing in the church and then I taught lessons in my home at the age of 16. I went on to attend and graduate from Christian Heritage College (now called San Diego Christian College) with a Bachelors Degree in Music and Business. I am now the Director of the Music Department at San Diego Young Artists Music Academy. I direct two youth and children choirs, a male chorus and a great adult choir. I also sing with the Voices of Prayze who travel with Jason Mraz from time to time. As a singer, pianist and as a teacher, I specialize in Gospel
piano & vocal technique and repertoire. I also have a great deal of experience in Pop, R&B, and Classical so I am able to help students excel in these genres as well.
*** Lesson Details *** As your private teacher, I can promise you a very soulful and rewarding experience – having fun is part of my lesson plan. My goal for each student is to build confidence through knowledge and experience. I will encourage each student to reach into their spirit and bring out what is already inside of them through the type of music that brings them happiness. After 3- 6 months of lessons from me pianist will be able to know beginning concepts, play songs of their choice by ear and note read simple songs also. Singers will know beginning vocal exercises, be able to project their voice, and sing high and low notes accurately to songs according to their ability.

Excellent piano teacher. Ms Judys' methods combined with positive reinforcement has produced immediate results. I had no idea a six year old could learn so much so fast. I feel as though I'm getting my monies worth.
All levels and all ages as well as performance preparation
I am passionate about sharing with you all the knowledge that I've obtained from over 45 years of of studying piano with some of the best teachers available in the country. I will help you to both discover that sound image that is only yours and then to work on how to make that image come alive for you at the keyboard. I promise that working together will be a fun and inspiring adventure into that most expressive form of communications which is Music. One of the best ways to judge a teacher is by the way he plays. I am a performing teacher, still studying, and will be giving my second solo rec
ital at The Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad in February 2013 and will be playing masterpieces by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin and Liszt. You are, of course, invited to the recital or it would be my pleasure to play for you at my studio or your home. Looking forward to sharing and learning more about our craft by spending some quality musical time with one another.
*** Lesson Details *** I am considered to be a easy going guy but it is my job to be sure that value is obtained from investment, so I will let my students know when they are not completing their reasonable assignments. That said, I can't wait to share with you all the joys I feel about teaching. I didn't know anything about the piano at age 21 but seven years later I gave my Senior Recital and earned my BA degree with a Piano Major so I know how difficult it can be to start lessons as well as being able to advance at any level. We will learn how to understand basic theory to include notation, intervals, chord structure, scales and arpeggios and well as to learn or improve your ability to sight read without having to continually look down at your hands. All technical problems will be understood and solved so that you will be able to play those pieces you love at your ability level. Being able to play with a firm knowledge of a composer's life, his composition style and historical background is a sure sign of one that has studied with a fine teacher. It is my hopes that that teacher will be me. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Patient and Encouraging!
Alex obviously has a love for music, and a passion for teaching. I look forward to my lessons because he is always pointing out my improvements, no matter how small.
I grew up in a musical home with a piano teacher for a parent. Consequently, I started learning piano and singing at a young age, and then began taking voice lessons in high school. For the last 19 years I have been studying voice and loving every minute of it! I am a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and Music Teacher's Association of California. I have a bachelor's degree in music education from Bob Jones University, and a master's degree in Vocal Performance from Azusa Pacific University. I also studied for 2 summers during college with a master teacher. Over the ye
ars I have performed and worked with both children's choirs and adult choirs and given private concerts. My enthusiasm for music has spilled over into a love for teaching. I have taught private voice lessons for the last 8 years to students ranging in age from 5 to 50+. Some have been beginner students, and others were seasoned singers who wanted some refreshers and guidance. My forte is classical music but I have also worked with Broadway, Sacred, and Pop. I enjoy teaching beginning to intermediate piano as well.
*** Lesson Details *** For me, the most important key to success in music is consistency in lessons and in practice. I will work hard with my students to help them find a practice schedule that fits with their current activities and will help them reach their goals as a musician. Our lesson times will include theory and technique to help them gain skills and confidence and become well-rounded musicians. We can also prepare for any upcoming solos or auditions. I love music and I want my students to gain that same enthusiasm and excitement. I am a strong believer in positive reinforcement so my students will receive lots of praise and encouragement from me. Sometimes we might work hard to reach a specific goal, but we will have fun along the way. Depending on the course of study (piano or singing) I would expect the student to buy 1- 3 music books that we would work from.
*** Studio Equipment *** Home-Piano set up in the living room Studio-Keyboard
*** Travel Equipment *** I have a keyboard I can use in case the student does not have a piano/keyboard.

The piano is the king of instruments. Steven B is one of the best instructors out there. He teaches in students’ homes across the United States as easily as in the Coronado Music Studio. “Steven B, a patient, gifted teacher has supervised my studies on guitar with good humor, wit and flexibility. I would recommend him without hesitation to players young and old.” - Tim, 5 Stars!
“I took voice and piano lessons in Steven B’s Coronado Music Studio and also online via Skype. Both experiences were great, and it was really convenient to do the lessons on Skype. Steven B is an excellent teacher, and he is very patient. I recommend him to anyone who wants to learn to play an instrument or sing!” - Kat , 5 Stars!
“Steven B’s fun and patient teaching style rocks. I see how his bright, fun-loving personality, and knowledge of music for piano makes him top choice as my daughter’s music instructor.” - Anthony, 5 Stars!
“Steven B is a wonderful teacher! He is talented, always enthusiastic, and extremely motivational! Each lesson is designed specifically for our daughter Kelsey's ability and desired genre of music! Kelsey began guitar and vocal lessons in the Coronado studio and is now taking lessons via Skype since our move to Virginia. The lessons are convenient, affordable, and productive. We are excited to be able to still have Steven B as her guitar and vocal teacher!” - Amy, 5 Stars!
“I came to Steven B as a beginner in piano and I took the piano lessons on my Casio keyboard. I just wanted to learn my favorite songs. Steven B got me into the music I really enjoy! In only three months, I was able to play and sing a song I truly love titled “Angel” from Sarah McLachian. My teacher said I performed it as well as the artist. My friends, loved my performance of the song!” - Katrina, 5 Stars!
“My son has taken guitar and voice lessons with Steven B for the last year. We are pleased with classes and the improvement we've seen in comparison to a previous instructor. Steven B is punctual and extremely respectful of the time and money it takes to provide lessons. He can be counted on to be both friendly and professional. He comes prepared for lessons and expects the same of his students. If you are serious about learning and improving your skills, we highly recommend him.” - Christina, 5 Stars!
“My time in being instructed by Steven B on piano was a great, informative experience. Ever since the first lesson, he is a very good teacher that clearly knows what he is doing. Mr. Bruce taught me at my own pace, taking time to help me work on skills, especially small details that help me perform much better. He is a very skilled instructor, teaching me pieces from not only music books that he provides, but also the valuable skill of learning by ear, a skill few other teachers bother to touch on. Steven B has helped on a number of occasions with songs that I am learning on my own and fit time into our lessons to work on them. He is always willing to let the student work on what they like as well as what he gives out. When I once mentioned my liking for jazz, we soon started an in-depth series of lessons into the genre, teaching me much more than I ever knew prior to it. I’ve never felt pressured by my assignments and pieces to bring home, as Steven B knows everyone goes at their own pace and can take anytime from a few days to a few weeks to learn a song. My time with him was a very fun and informative time that I thoroughly enjoyed.” - Michael, 5 Stars!

I take Piano and Vocal lessons from Steven for almost two years now, and have no complaints about him. He pushes me to do better with my work and helps me understand things that I couldn't with past teachers. On piano, he helps with my learning by ear, as well as reading music. On my vocals, he helps me perfect my singing with exercises and keeping an inner glow to my face that most successful singers have.
I extremely recommend trying him out!
"This is a comprehensive course designed to help students master theory concepts. I gradually introduce new ideas in a clearly presented format, and follows up with lots of effective reinforcement."
Adrián Terrazas-González: Born on October 17, 1975, and raised in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, México, Adrian Terrazas-González grew up surrounded by the traditional music of Central America from Danzón, Boleros and Rumba, to Son and Mambo. Terrazas-González began developing his musical ability starting at the age of eleven. He was inclined to play the flute and the tenor saxophone with an understanding of classical music and a distinct attraction to jazz, and five years later chose to take on the clarinet. His grandmother, a "Danzón Nut" according to Terrazas-González, urged her grandson in that dir
ection, but the young player was adamant towards a newfound paragon for himself: Hubert Laws.
2001 was a year that would have a profound impact on Terrazas-González’s music. While pursuing Sociology and Music Studies at The University of Texas, El Paso, he learned more about the transmission of these ideas and theories through music. In an effort to track the development of marked philosophical and spiritual traditions observed by ancient cultures, Terrazas-González arranged to meet, learn, and creatively collaborate with musicians involved with traditions originating from West Africa. One of his primary interests was the Yoruba tradition (predominantly out of Western Nigeria), the ancient African religion underlying Santeria (Cuba and Puerto Rico), Candombl (Baha, Brazil), Vodun (Haiti), and Cu Taan (México).
In May 2002 Terrazas-González was diagnosed with Cancer that spread to his stomach and abdomen, treatments included surgery and extensive radiation treatment to the stomach and abdomen. In 2004, he was declared cancer free and in the same year he joined the band The Mars Volta as a full-flesh member.
THE MARS VOLTA In 2004 Terrazas-González joined The Mars Volta recording the studio album, “Frances the Mute”, and continues to work with the band (as a full-fledged member) on subsequent albums (“Live Scabdates” 2005, “Amputechture” 2006, “The Bedlam in Goliath” 2008) and all of The Mars Volta side projects (movie scores, DVD‘s, etc.). The Mars Volta is comprised of guitarist Omar A. Rodriguez-Lopez, lyricist/vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala, bassist John Alderete, guitarist Paul Hinojos-González, drummer Thomas Pridgen, percussionist Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez, and keyboardist Isaiah “Ikey” Owens. Through his work with The Mars Volta, Terrazas-González went on to earn his first Grammy Award in 2008 for the “Best Rock Performance” category with the song "Wax Simulacra". Working with The Mars Volta has enabled Terrazas-González to gain further exposure as a multi-instrumentalist, particularly in Europe.
Television performances of The Mars Volta include (but not limited to): The Henry Rollins Show, The Tonight Show with David Letterman, and The BBC.
THE STUDIO/TOURING MUSICIAN Terrazas-González’s solid performance and versatility have allowed him many opportunities to collaborate with a vast array of professionals worldwide. Terrazas-González has shared the stage and/or recorded with the likes of Larry Harlow, Antonio Sánchez, Bob Sheppard, Edwin Livingston, Erik A. Unsworth, Dr. Willy Hill, Dr. Donald G. Wilkinson, Damo Suzuki, Lenny Castro, Money Mark Nishita, Los Lobos, EMI Gospel Artist Smokie Norful, Lisa Papineau (Big Sir), Omar A. Rodriguez-Lopez Quintet/Group (Se Dice Bisonte, No Búfalo 2007, music scoring for the Guillermo Arriaga Jordan and Jorge Hernández Aldana film on El Búfalo de la Noche on La Neta Films/Naco Films performed by The Mars Volta), Hans Glawishing, John Beasley, Brian Lynch, Shaila Dúrcal, John Frusciante, Tosin Abasi (Animals As Leaders), Ken Schalk, Juliette Lewis, Nuriya Michan, Deantoni Parks, Candiria, The Memorials, Trevor Hall, Oscar Stagnaro, Billy Ray Cyrus, David "FuZe" Fiuczynski and Freedom Bremner of Screaming Headless Torsos, Pete Escobedo, Oskar Cartaya, Hadrien Feraud, and Luis Conte, Jack Costanzo among others.
Terrazas-González’s professional involvement with the music industry has continued to develop under his own publishing and record label, EL REGIMEN Music BMI, leading T.R.A.M. and as a led member of one of the strongest lineups in improvisational music TRANSIENT. This dignified and prolific musician collaborates with an eclectic number of international musicians, tours internationally on an intense and annual schedule, all the while teaching workshops to numerous school districts and universities around the globe. Terrazas-Gonzalez has also had the great honor of being featured on 2014's Channel 22 México and Channel 22 International.
T.R.A.M. It's extremely rare to come across a band that flips the script of conventionality, throwing caution to the wind. The debut effort from T.R.A.M. (Terrazas Reyes Abasi Moore) does just that, while blazing a trail of creativity quick to turn heads throughout the world. This unit will easily be referred to by many as a “Super Group”. However, the members of this dynamic unit aren't in this for any reason other than to use it as a platform to further express their art without limitations or any preconceived notions.
T.R.A.M. is comprised of such renowned and musically proficient artists as Adrián Terrazas-González (The Mars Volta) on saxophone, flute, bass clarinet and percussion, Javier Reyes (Animals As Leaders) on guitar, Tosin Abasi (Animals As Leaders) on guitar, and Eric Moore II (Suicidal Tendencies) on drums. This is a group of likeminded individuals that are naturally gifted with the collaboration of their unique talents resulting in something truly amazing. Their much anticipated debut album, “Lingua Franca”, was released February 2012 through Sumerian Records.
“Tosin Abasi and I were originally introduced by a mutual friend, Raanen Bozzio (Terry Bozzio's son), summer of 2010. This meeting also served as my first introduction to Animals As Leaders and Javier Reyes. Since then, Abasi, Reyes, and I have developed a great relationship. We got together almost every day to try out ideas, and after a month we had already formulated a majority of the record. At this point we contacted Eric Moore, an incredible drummer and the most joyful person to be around, and soon everything we had envisioned rhythmically came together on our first meeting/recording session (at the Farias Productions Studios) on what is now T.R.A.M… I never know how people will respond to our music, I just never know! My goal is to try to instill a strong feeling or energy in people and I feel that collectively we achieved this goal tenfold with this new project. We all have a great enthusiasm and desire to perform this material live and see this band further develop. We look forward to hearing what you all think of it.”
Adrián Terrazas-González TRANSIENT A concept ensemble with its roots in west coast music, TRANSIENT performs original music inspired by the tradition of Chamber Music and Contemporary Jazz on today's world. This genuine ensemble led by flautist Adrian Terrazas-Gonzalez (The Mars Volta, and T.R.A.M.), followed by cellist Artyom Manukyan (Peter Erskine and The Joe Zawinul's Syndicate), and on the drums the powerful young lion Tim "Figg" Newton, brings a collection of original compositions written as a story line of work of solid experimental material and improvisation. Translating the live performance into the world of sound.
TRANSIENT exists as a unique new voice comprised of some of creative music's fearless players on the globe.

Adrián and I have now played together many times, and each time I have learned something new about myself. Interacting musically with Adrian has allowed me to expand my compositional horizon, and my understanding of the geography of my own instrument.
Adrián's experience and creativity is unparalleled by nearly anyone you will find in his field, especially when one considers his versatility as a woodwind doubler (sax, flute, clarinet, etc.) in genres including classical, jazz, experimental rock, and traditional mexican folk music.
If you are so lucky to have the opportunity, I would strongly recommend you study with Adrián.

I was really worried that I would have to trial a few teachers before I found the one I was looking for, but I lucked out and found Corb
y on the first try! One of the things that I caught my eye while reading her description was that she never makes a student learn to play something they don't like. This was a big deal for me. Nobody likes to struggle to learn something they don't enjoy playing or hearing, and I noticed right from the beginning Corby offered up several different pieces of music that reinforce the concepts she is teaching for that lesson and lets me pick which one I like best. It really helps out when practicing during the week because I actually WANT to learn that piece and it motivates me to practice each day. I also like that she goes beyond teaching how to play something with technical accuracy. She has some good learning techniques on how to make the music come alive with feeling instead of sounding robotic or forced.
I'm an adult, but I arrived early for my lesson one day and she was finishing a lesson up with a young girl maybe about 7 years old and I was really impressed with how she interacted with her. It was very cool to see them both having fun and that's what it's all about. I only wish I'd had a teacher with the same enthusiasm when I was a kid - If I had, I wouldn't need lessons today!"

Farobag Cooper excels with the student who has played the piano over a period of years. Fingering, for example, is adjusted to fit the
player's hands rather than the proscribved notations of the publisher. Interpretation is noted and practiced at every moment of the composition often by the instructor then followed by the student. Perhaps what sets Farobag apart is his manner of conducting as one performs. It is a feeling like being in an orchestra with one's personal conductor. But first mastery of score. Then interpretation. Voila! Music."
