Great Piano Teacher!

I've had a few lessons with Randy, and I'm very pleased with my progress! He is extremely knowledgeable and does everything possible to make a student feel comfortable. With Randy, learning the piano is exciting and fun! I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a teacher that will work with you to be the best musician you can be.

Songwriting
Randy is a great songwriting coach!

I have the highest recommendation for Randy as a songwriting teacher and coach. I walked into his studio less than a year ago, having recently started writing my own songs. With remarkable patience and understanding, he picked out the parts of my work that were working well (he always points these out), and he led me, step by step, through a process of learning how to improve both my lyrics and my music composition. He has an excellent approach of knowing where I am as a student, and exposing me to just the right amount of new information to take me to the next step. Randy is organized, has a good mix of theory and practice, and his teaching style matches my learning style very well. Through many systematic steps, I feel I have become a much better songwriter in the last 9 months or so. He is always encouraging, and added to my motivation for creating an album of my own work. Randy is now coaching me through the creation of this first album — a cumulative process that I’m enjoying thoroughly. Again, I wholeheartedly recommend Randy as a guide for your songwriting journey.

Excellent teacher with varied backgrounds!

Randy has been a wonderful teacher! I have worked with him for many years as a musical theater coach and now am venturing into improving my piano skills. He is so knowledgable about theory, music history and just playing his instrument that I always feel wholly enriched after my sessions with him! He really helps you to understand the how and the why that when you get into the piece itself, it all comes together and makes sense! He also is a strong advocate of finding an artists' authentic voice. This is wonderful because when you learn to play the instrument, he helps you to reveal your own signature! You are not just playing songs anymore. You are making music.

Although Juan cannot return to his native Colombia, his string duet, “Famous Librarians” (commissioned by Olivia de Prato and Victor Lowrie, was premiered at the Medellín Conservatory of Music.) I have spent one year locking myself up in my room, every day for a few hours at a time, stumbling my way to learning the guitar. On my own, I have made it far enough to be familiar with a repertoire of chords, able to learn songs and even develop the mindset for habit forming. But after one year I felt my own limits and decided to discard my ego and find a teacher.

From his profile here I could tell that Juan was not only a skilled musician, but a keen and pensive instructor. After a single session Juan was able to properly asses my abilities and my shortcomings and tailor-designed an approach that matches my personal and musical nature. He uses my strong affinity for technique and uses that to discourage my hesitancy toward theory. He has a comfortable and approachable presence where mistakes and flaws are encouraged as learning footstools. With humble discipline he pushes me to -want- to be better.

With Juan I am absolutely confident in not merely becoming an apt guitarist, but a genuine musician.

As a recording artist myself, I understand what it takes to be in the studio and develop a product that is representative of the artists vision.

About Amy

I have been a voice teacher for over twenty- five years. My background includes ten years of classical training with Maestro Julio Berrocal as well as vocal training through the Feldekrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. I believe we all have something distinctive that can be developed and expressed through the voice. I work to help the student discover their individual and unique sound. Turner is a really friendly guy with a comprehensive knowledge of the piano. I already play the guitar but wanted to learn some keyboard chops. Turner gave me some quick tips that proved to be useful for writing, demoing and jamming. He also explained some cool concepts that could be used in many styles of playing.

As someone with a brain not naturally inclined towards music, Turner's teaching approach proved extremely helpful for me. He was able to pinpoint the threshold between my ability and my potential, and then tailor his method accordingly, so our lessons feel totally cultivated to my limited experience. He is smart, talented and most importantly for me, not an intimidating instructor!

Turner is a really super teacher- very friendly, patient, and flexible.

He doesn't mind explaining things over again, helps give you other options for chords that are tricky, gives really constructive feedback, and I really feel like I've been making some real progress. I'd highly recommend him to anyone.
