Gio A.

New York, NY

I began learning mandolin a couple years ago and am proficient with chords and tunes. Classical or bluegrass style. I can teach sight reading music notation as well.

About Gio

I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrume
nt takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.
Drums & Percussion: All genres
Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

Concetta has a lot of excellent suggestions for improving singing performance. The typed notes she sends after each lesson were a tremendous asset as well. In only five lessons, she improved my daughters stage presence and taught her how to engage an audience. We were always short term clients, but Concetta more than met our goals and expectations. I would very much recommend her for any level of voice and performance. Excellent teacher

Concetta was fantastic with my six year old son with special needs. She was patient and engaging. We left and he told me that her studio was his "favorite place".

Tara L.

Hastings on Hudson, NY

I started playing acoustic guitar when I was seven years old (off and on). I then started traveling more and found the mandolin to be so much easier to carry around and so much fun, it was hard to stop playing it. I have been playing and teaching mostly bluegrass, old time, Irish, blues, and swing jazz styles for many years. I have taught both privately and have also done various workshops at festivals. I have taught multiple years for instance at the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival in PA, The Traditions week at Common Ground on the Hill Festival in MD, etc
My students learn to have fun with music. Students can work on rhythms, melodies, improvisation, song writing, arranging tunes, music theory, getting into and/or hanging on in a jam session, etc.

About Tara

I have a Masters in Education as well as having spent many years performing, teaching in one on one and group settings both privately and at music camps and festivals. I play and teach bluegrass, old time, Irish, and swing jazz styles. I like my students to really enjoy playing music and their lessons as well as learning to become fluent in the language of music. It is not required that folks learn to read music necessarily, but it can be a part of the lessons if desired. I love to see my students able to continue learning and playing on their own, be able to hold their own at jams and on the
stage is they so desire, or just enjoy making music for themselves. I have techniques that have proven effective to help get past jam phobia, that help folks learn to improvise who have not had any luck with doing so before, and help getting away from sheet music addictions to be able to have fun and confidence out at jams. I also can give a good foundation in music theory as it applies to one's actual playing and have it be fun and make sense.

Brian P.

Middletown, NY

The most common mandolin uses 4 pairs(courses) of strings that are tuned to each other. The mandolin strings are tuned a 5th apart and considered to be in the soprano ( high register/'pitch) range. Like any plucked instrument, mandolin notes decay to silence rather than sound out continuously as with a bowed note on a violin. Its small size and higher pitch make mandolin notes decay faster than larger stringed instruments like guitar. This encourages the use of tremolo (rapid picking of one or more pairs of strings) to create sustained notes or chords. The mandolin's paired strings facilitate this technique: the plectrum (pick) strikes each of a pair of strings alternately, providing a more full and continuous sound than a single string would. Mandolins are most commonly used in classical, traditional, bluegrass, and folk music.

About Brian

Brian is a professional music teacher, owner of Pitch Perfect School of Music in Chester,NY. He is also the owner and manager of "The Skyline", which is a performace center in Middletown, NY. In addition, he is an extremely talented composer, arranger, and analyst. His latest endeavors have been writing music for film and gaming. His previous band These 3 Poisons has their hit song €œLight up the Eyes on Rock Band 3. "Do what you love and love what you do." This is why he chose music as his career. His passion for music is immeasurable. Music is his calling, his reason to be. For the past
17 years Brian has been heavily involved with studying, composing, arranging, and performing music of several genres and styles. Over the years he also found teaching music to be both a talent and a passion of his. For the past 10 years, he has had the pleasure of sharing his knowledge and love for music with hundreds of students. In 2013/2014 he functioned as an adjunct professor at Mercy College, teaching Music Theory and Composition 1 and 2. He has plenty of ensemble experience, which in summary would entail Orchestra, Chamber, Choir, Jazz band, several rock and pop bands, and plenty of solo work. His main instruments are guitar, bass guitar, and keyboard, but he also has experience as a drummer, percussionist, vocalist, mandolin player, ukulele player, and clarinetist.

Jordan G.

West Orange, NJ

I have been playing mandolin for a couple of years. There is no denying that the mandolin isn't my first instrument, however, I am capable of teaching beginner mandolin students every thing they need to know to give them a solid foundation. I teach out of a book, but I also focus on applying mandolin skills to learning popular songs and folk melodies.

About Jordan

Hi, my name is Jordan. I'm a senior in high school, and I am currently planning on pursuing a degree in music education. I have experience with many genres of music including classical, jazz, pop/rock, and music theater. In addition to being a multi instrumentalist, I am also a songwriter, and have an album being released this year. I've had multiple #1 singles on radio stations all around the globe including in Nashville, New Jersey, England, and Australia. My specialty and biggest passion is country and rock music. Although I'm young, I have lots of experience so if you are looking for quali
ty lessons in anything with strings...I'm your man :)
