Jason W.

Glendale, CA

About Jason

I grew up in Minnesota and started playing guitar when I was 13. Self-taught for three years, I developed a passion and love for music. Upon turning 16, I expanded my knowledge studying with a local guitarist, a musical genius in my opinion, who made a huge impact on my playing. In the fall of 2007 I relocated to Los Angeles to attend Musicians Institute for guitar performance. I graduated in 2009

Over the course of the last nine years I've been a part of six different live performing bands and currently work with my original band comprised entirely of Musicians Institute graduates, Delp
hian. Delphian can be seen and heard featured on screen in the Mike Judge film “Extract”. I study, perform and have vast knowledge in the styles of blues, classical, country, folk, jazz, metal and rock n' roll. Everyday as I continue to grow as a teacher and musician, so does my love for the guitar. I very much enjoy sharing my knowledge and seeing each of my students progress and grow as musicians.

We started off with a different drum instructor who turned out to be very unreliable. I asked take lessons to provide me with someone with good reviews. Someone who is punctual and reliable, that's when we met Jason. Jason is a super amazing instructor who has incredible patience. My son Nathan has never had any musical education before. After taking lessons with Jason for about three months he has a vast knowledge in playing drums and reading music. Jason utilizes his time very productively during lessons with no rush. He even goes to the extent to recommend and suggest products that will help Nathan improve. He is very humble, sweet and trustworthy. My family is glad that he came along. Thank you Jason from all of us.

I started with Jeff 3 weeks ago and am very happy with him & lessons. I started playing guitar off & on as a folkie in the 1960's, no lessons - learned by osmosis + a couple of songbooks with chord diagrams, played off & on, (mostly off). I retired in July 2014 (at 71) and promised myself I would really learn to play. He started by asking me to play the chords I knew, and what kinds of music I wanted to play, and started me off with basic strums etc. For me at least it is a good approach. We go at my pace and no pressure - + a lot of talk about life in America etc. Plan to continue with him and highly recommend him. (I'm the old guy in the picture)

Jeff is a great guitar teacher. He knows everything about the guitar and music theory. Whenever I have a question, Jeff always goes into great detail to explain everything to make I understand it well. I have been with Jeff for almost a year and my playing and understanding of the guitar has greatly improved. Jeff also has a great record collection. Thank you Jeff and see you next week for my lesson!

Bass Guitar
Jeff is the Man!

I took lessons from Jeff on and off for about 15yrs. I started off on the bass and then tried learning some guitar. I really had a great time learning how to play the bass from Jeff, he makes it really fun and relevant to your needs. Some days, I really wanted to learn a song I heard on the radio or from a favorite band, and he was instantly able to teach it to me. Jeff is a great guy and really knows how to teach guitar. I would definitely recommend taking lessons from Jeff. He will go at your pace, and you will have a blast learning how to play the guitar!

The fundamentals to guitar playing - from care and set-up of instrument to reading and performing a song

About Spencer

Hello future students!

I am a very easy-going guy and teacher. I have been playing music for about 12 years, studying diligently in and outside of school.

I'm recently finished studying and received my degree at the University of California Irvine for music performance. Through the various private lessons I have taken, I've learned many aspects to music education that help me with my students (you). I have been teaching music privately and in local schools for over 6 years now.

My goals as a teacher is to inspire students to create, perform and continue studying music.

*** Les
son Details ***
Although I want every student to have a good time during their lesson, I do expect a lot out of them. Depending on their ability and age different curriculum will be used. Generally I try to make each lesson a fun experience as well as informative. I like to drill the fundamentals but work with each student individually on what they enjoy and want to learn.

After a few months of practice, students will be able to play complete songs and grooves, they will be able to keep solid time, and will have developed basic tools to improvise and solo.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Two drum sets, PA, recording equipment, upright piano, amps for guitar and bass, instruments and ear protection headphones.

The space is used for recording and rehearsals and is nearly soundproof.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide all instruments I teach. But in most cases I prefer that each student has their own instrument/software. It's very difficult to practice without an instrument.

*** Specialties ***
My methods are to inspire students to play, perform, create, and more important practice. I try to make each lesson a fun experience as well as informative. I like to drill the fundamentals but work with each student individually on what they enjoy and want to learn.

Spencer has a true gift in the world of drumming. He is an excellent drummer, as well as a very effective teacher. He quickly knows where a student's weak spots are, and what to do to improve his/her skills quickly. He does this with lessons that are fun and motivating. He has great energy, and is a good listener. He is a great teacher, and can easily adjust his technique to match the needs for a child, a teenager, or an adult. I have no regrets...

Singing · In studio
I took voice lessons from Mary Ann at Groovin' On Music from 2007-2009, and they were worth every penny. I was a background singer in a worship team at church and I was shy to sing lead because I didn't know how to sing vibrato or navigate the falsetto break in my range. I had always wanted to take lessons as a kid but never was able to until adulthood. I was a bit nervous when I first came in, but Mary Ann put me at ease. She is a beautiful spirit who inspired me, challenged me, and made me laugh. She is not only amazingly talented and experienced, but she genuinely loves people and makes the lessons an enjoyable experience. Mary Ann definitely took my voice to the next level. Many people have commented on the difference in my voice and my confidence level before and after the lessons. I now sing lead, am at home with my vibrato and know how to use all the notes in my range. I would absolutely recommend Mary Ann as a voice coach for people of all ages!

Jacob B.

Los Angeles, CA

Hello! I have been playing guitar for 25 years. In that time I have performed in the UK with my bands, and had my studio guitar recordings featured on radio and TV. For two years, I taught a class of 30 high school guitar ensemble students. My students have fun while working hard to reach the objective during every lesson. I am always actively involved in giving relevant feedback and positive reinforcement as students progress.

About Jacob

Hello! I began my life in music at an early age. Music has been a part of every stage of my life and teaching students is the culmination of my lifelong experiences in successful rock bands, conducting orchestras, and touring the world as a musician.

My instruments are violin, viola, cello, guitar, and saxophone, and I have also taught, performed and recorded mandolin, piano/keys, bass guitar, banjo, drums/percussion.

Starting my musical career off as an orchestra teacher, I devoted nine years to developing the skills of young musicians in Arizona.

In May 2014, I conducted and reco
rded at Air Studios (Lyndhurst) in London with members of the London Symphony Orchestra. Since graduating from the Scoring for Film, Television, and Video Games Master’s Program at Berklee College of Music in Valencia, Spain, I am currently applying his education and collaborative teaching experiences in Los Angeles.
