I have performed roles such as Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Micaela in Bizet’s Carmen, First Woman in Cherubini’s Medea, Second Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, and Giovanna in Verdi’s Rigoletto. Sarah was born and raised in Los Angeles and has been involved in music and theater since a young age. She spent many of her early years performing in both school and church choirs, and was heavily involved in both theater and dance throughout high school. Sarah has played roles such as "Mrs MacAfee " in Bye Bye Birdie, "Nancy" in Oliver, and "Golde" in Fiddler on the Roof, as well as doing "extra word" for Zondervan, and Billy Gram films. She holds a B.A. in Voice from Biola University, and is currently working on a M.A. in Christian Education. I begin each voice lesson with a warm-up to prepare the student for their session. Next, we do a series of exercises specially designed to help each individual develop their skill in a way that best fits them. We then work on a piece of their choice for the remainder of the lesson, perfecting their technique and helping them become performance ready. I teach with patience and fun because I feel that this is the key to achieving goals and inspiring a good habit of practice.
If you do not already have a song, sheet music, or monologue to bring in I can help you choose one during your first lesson. I also require that my students keep a practice journal to record their daily practice sessions. If possible, please bring a recording device of some sort so you can record your lessons. It is a HUGE help to be able to listen back on your lessons and to use them in your daily practice! No experience is necessary, that is what I'm here for!
I fully enjoy teaching music and theater to others and spreading the art of performance, reaching out to all generations. I believe in customizing every lesson to be unique for my students in a way that will serve their individual needs. I started playing music at age 9, when my mom decided to put me in piano lessons. Much to her surprise, I fell in love with the instrument and played non-stop, sometimes skipping dinner to read through a new piece or practice for an up coming competition. After winning a few state wide competitions, I enrolled in an arts high school to practice my craft, and be around other creative high school students. While in High School, I started writing music and singing in a 16 member chamber choir. The summer before my senior year, I won the prestigious Berklee songwriting competition and was awarded a scholarship to the school, which I decided to decline to make my way towards the music mecca of Los Angeles.
