Dale E. Sebastopol, CA

About Dale

*** Travel Equipment *** Hand Percussion instruments such as maracas, clave, guiro, castanets, snapping, hand clapping. *** Specialties *** I believe the student should have an idea of the genre of music they would like to study. With that in mind...the piece, composition that they are trying to perfect should be presented to me. Then we can understand where the problem lies. Is it stage fright, breathing, timing, tone of the voice, fingering on the piano, or which challenge? This we will see what needs to be addressed.

Michael is simply awesome. My son has been through lessons before, but they neer inspired him to practice or take his clarinet seriously. Michael's joy and interest not just in music, but in who Justice is, has made a big difference. Thanks, Michael!

Miles M. Sebastopol, CA

I like to teach the student the music that they want to learn. Every student is unique, not only in their abilities and learning styles, but in what they want to achieve, and even why they want to take lessons in the first place.

There are three primary areas in which I would like to see every student improve: Musicality, Technique, and Repertoire. Depending on a student's needs and desires, one of these might receive more or less emphasis (and lesson time) than the others. However, I strive to help my students continually improve in all three areas.

While many teachers have a particular method with which they are comfortable, teaching all of their students out of the same set of books, I prefer to approach the teaching of each student separately. I strive to design an individualized lesson plan for each and every student, helping them develop the specific skills they require while playing the music they love!

I am here to help you reach your goals, not my own. As such, ...

Miles has not only helped me learn piano, he has introduced me to a ton of great music I had never heard before. He has been very patient and encouraging with me, and he has helped me get over my fear of playing in front of other people. Miles is an excellent, inspiring teacher!

I started taking piano lessons from Miles a year ago as a complete beginner. He's taught me how to read music, play classical music, and play a few rock and blues songs as well! My favorite part of the lesson is when I get to improvise while Miles plays with me. The lessons are always so fun and inspiring.

I am a very experienced, kind, supportive and very knowledgable voice teacher. I have helped high school kids get into summer programs, honor choirs, lead roles and colleges. I love to help amateur choral singers master their music and gain confidence and skills. I am an expert on vocal health and varied repertoire.

About Ruth

I've been a professional musician for many years in the classical singing world. I love all kinds of music and have been teaching for over ten years, students ages 5 to 80. I'm known for being very kind and supportive. I have two degrees in Music, one from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England. I've been active on classical choral and early music recordings and therefore I get to vote in the GRAMMYs ... my high school students usually help me to consider the Best New Artist category although I have strong opinions of my own because I love pop music too! I teach beginning piano, and all levels of singing. I've raised two great kids of my own and am married to another professional musician. I love helping people to bring more music into their lives!

How Do You Sing with Vibrato? Tips for Beginners
How do you sing with vibrato? Find out how to develop your technique in this guest post by Hayward, CA teacher Molly R...   One of the main things beginning singers tend to worry about is lack of vibrato. “How do I make it happen?” they ask... sometimes at the first lesson. I usually make it very clear right away that you cannot force vibrato! If you do, you can easily damage your voice or create a very ugly “wobble." Vibrato is something you have to LET happen. Do Singers Need Metronomes?
As a vocalist, should you practice singing with a metronome at your side? Read on for St. Augustine, FL teacher Heather L.'s advice...    Metronomes are devices that produce sounds in regular, pre-chosen rhythms. Many years ago, the only metronomes were simple gadgets. Though the first one that's even similar to what we now think of as a "modern" metronome was invented in the 19th century, the kind that most adults are familiar with is a mechanical, wind-up metronome. It makes a s

Check out these helpful singing tips from Augustine, FL voice teacher Heather L...   You know, it seems that we singers talk all the time about how tough our higher register is (and it can be).
