About Kirstin

*** Travel Equipment *** I can bring music books and a music stand for their music. I expect the student to have some sort of piano or keyboard that we can work with. For online lessons, I have a piano but ask that students have a camera and microphone on computer. Students must have rehearsal copies of music and may need to purchase books after a period of time. *** Specialties *** I specialize in classical voice. I can also teach in popular music and Broadway theatre styles. I have studied some Alexander Technique in my own training and seek to incorporate those teachings into lessons. Having dealt with voice issues in my own vocal training, I am comfortable working with students who may be coming off of voice trauma. I also teach other styles of music, including pop, country, and ...

Kirstin took a long time to respond to my requesting lessons (I actually had to call customer support to get her to respond). Then she rescheduled my first lesson twice, so that my first lesson would have been three weeks after signing up. I got a new teacher before that lesson. I never had a lesson with her, she might be great, I never got to find out.

Gabriel H. Milwaukee, WI

I have studied music theory to the highest collegiate level

About Gabriel

I graduated with a BA in jazz studies from Columbia in 2007 and have been teaching since 2005. I have played in many different projects, covering many styles including Rock, Jazz, Latin, Hip hop, classical, orchestral, and country. So, I have a strong understanding on the specifics of each of these styles, and a big part of my lesson plan is to teach my students to be as versatile as possible. Hence they have many options as far as playing music. I also play a wide variety of instruments including Piano, Latin Percussion, Mallets, Drum set, Guitar, and bass, so if at any point a student has an interest in trying something different t they have many options. *** Lesson Details *** Gabriel has been drumming professionally for nearly a decade, and teaching for seven years. In 2007 ...

Great teacher for learning basic to advanced skills!

Gabe is a great teacher to get students started learning their basic skills on piano, drums, guitar or bass. He is really patient and takes the time to make sure the student really learns each specific skill. Gabe picks out exercises that make learning new skills fun and even arranges the students favorite pop tunes to help fit in with the skills being taught. Gabe really makes lessons fun and helps students learn the songs that keep them excited about playing!!

Best Teacher Ever!

I have been taking classical guitar lessons with Sara for almost a year now, and I can honestly say she is by far the most talented, positive, patient teacher I have ever had! And being a teacher of 26 years myself, that is quite a compliment to her. I will be taking lessons with Sara as long as I possibly can! Thanks for sharing your talent and passion with me. You are simply the best!

Compassionate Coach

Sara has the ability to push you to be your best with positive reinforcement. My daughter Isaly is only 11 and has some talent to sing however Sara is teaching her control, breathing and opening her up to other genres of music. It is very refreshing to have such a talented vocal coach teach in a modern way. Thank you!

Experienced theory teacher of 20 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of skills. I specialize in Baroque music and ornamentation, and I typically work with the books you have from your HS or college courses. I am especially helpful with figured bass realization, sight-singing, and ear-training improvement.

About Monica

I am a flutist, keyboardist, vocalist, director, composer, arranger, and educator who has performed in chamber ensembles specializing in Baroque repertoire since 1998. I have over twenty years of professional flute and piano performance as well as instruction on those instruments to my credit. My studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Indiana University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison covered the theoretical, historical, and performing aspects of music. My coursework in Madison led me to researching the secular cantatas of Christoph Graupner in Darmstadt, Germany on a Fulbright. In addition to interest in performing newly-composed music for traverso and harpsichord, my recent work with many different people as a church music director has led me back to a want to teach ...

Music theory is the mathematics behind the art. It connects math to what we hear, see and feel in music. Understanding theory can help you accentuate the piece you are working on, improve your improvisational skills, and connect you to the music on a deeper level. This can be the most difficult part about learning music. But have no fear!! I love to make sense out of the non-sense! We can add theory practices to your instrumental lesson or take them separately.

About Mary

I started playing saxophone in 1994. It was an immediate passion! As the years went on my thirst for music grew and I picked up more instruments. No matter which instrument I play the passion is the same. I like to write and arrange as well so I feel an extreme importance on music theory. I am classically trained although my drive is always towards roots music. I try my hardest to combine those two elements. I currently play baritone saxophone in the Uptown Savages. I am also in the Dead Man's Carnival. In that I may play Alto, Tenor, Baritone Sax, Flute, Bass Clarinet, Accordion, Piano or sing. You can hear me on recordings by the Invaders, Midwest Death Rattle, Into Arcadia, various compilation albums throughout the world and the soon to be released Uptown Savages Album. . ...

Mary was amazing teacher for me, and she really sparked my passion for music. I had really just started clarinet when I began taking lessons from her, and I truly believe one of the reasons I am going into music is because of how she made me see it. In the short time that I was able to be her student I learned more than just the fundamentals, and have yet to find a teacher that I work with as well as I did with her. If I could take up lessons with her again, I would in a heartbeat.

Mary and I started working together after I co-founded a 60s soul/R&B/ska/reggae-beat band in which I sang vocals and was asked to play alto sax by the bandleader. I hadn't played sax in years (clarinet is my primary instrument), and among other things, I needed to start learning how to improvise - challenging for a symphonic band player whose head was always in sheet music. Mary's approach and teaching methods worked well for me; she's great at getting to know you as a player and your goals, and once she did that for me, she was immediately able to formulate a course of action. In the six months we were together, my tone, pitch, and playing improved, and my confidence grew. I heartily recommend Mary; no matter your instrument, she will get right down to business, keep you moving, and inject some fun into the whole process. A great player and entertainer, Mary has been a strong role model for me. I am grateful for everything I've learned from her, and I look forward to working with her again.

Learn music theory from note reading to chord structures to major/minor keys.

Ear training is also taught with music theory.

About Paul

***My goal as a teacher*** I try to teach what the students are interested in and make it fun and interesting so that they learn the lessons and their favorite songs. Every student is different and needs to be taught in a way that makes learning easy and fun for them. I have a passion for all people and all ages and am blessed to be able to teach from the very young, (ages 2-5 Kindermusik lessons) to teens and adults.....all the way to senior citizens. I've had many older students all the way up to a 93 year old gentleman who is taking singing lessons and asked me to put music to his lyrics. We have recorded over 50 songs together. ***Background*** I started playing trumpet in 5th grade and knew that music was for me. I also liked playing with drums and piano also ...

I am a long time student having first started guitar lessons in my late thirties. Thanks to Paul’s patience and expertise, I quickly evolved as a guitar player and all around musician. He has a great studio with a full variety of instruments so it's very convenient to not have to bring one's own instrument if one prefers not to. The studio also has a quality recording system , and I've created numerous professional sounding recordings of my guitar playing as well. Today I enjoy playing bass and guitar in a string band and continue to expand my musical horizons with Paul. I think he is an excellent instructor and I highly recommend him for beginners or intermediate musicians of all ages.

When I decided to take guitar lessons I was a little nervous. I thought that it would be hard for me to learn since I'm no longer a child. What I was thinking was that you can't teach old dogs new tricks, not that I'm an old dog. I decided to do it anyway. Paul made everything easy to learn and I did learn new tricks so to speak. He definitely a good teacher for young and old alike.
