Michael N.

Oak Creek, WI

I taught music theory at University of Milwaukee while I was in graduate school! I also have taught very young children to adults in their sixties, so it you think music theory is "too hard" or it is "too late..."

Try me! Music theory is the road map to understanding why things sound cool. We wouldn't know why these words sound the way they do without studying our ABC's!

About Michael

No need to be nervous before my lessons. I have taught lessons to ages 6 to students in their 70's! My lessons have a comfortable atmosphere where students can be okay learning with mistakes; through trial and error. I always keep a light mood with quick bits of humor. I teach in a relaxing way, but at the same time you may expect to leave with new musical knowledge every lesson. I enjoy showing the connections between music and other areas of study and life. I always finds ways to work a student's personal interests into lessons. I always strive to help students learn how to practice in an
efficient and organized way.

I am a published composer and active performer/teacher/conductor with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and a Master's Degree in Conducting!

I have studied music theory to the highest collegiate level

About Gabriel

I graduated with a BA in jazz studies from Columbia in 2007 and have been teaching since 2005. I have played in many different projects, covering many styles including Rock, Jazz, Latin, Hip hop, classical, orchestral, and country. So, I have a strong understanding on the specifics of each of these styles, and a big part of my lesson plan is to teach my students to be as versatile as possible. Hence they have many options as far as playing music. I also play a wide variety of instruments including Piano, Latin Percussion, Mallets, Drum set, Guitar, and bass, so if at any point a student has
an interest in trying something different t they have many options.

In 2007 Gabriel received his BA in Jazz Studies/percussion performance from Columbia college Chicago, where he studied Drumset with Chicago legend Tom Hipskind, conga virtuoso's Rubin Alverez, and Giovanni Hildalgo, and studio vibraphonist Rick Embach. Gabriel has a high success rate with his students including the winner of the "Heat Strokes" drum competition 2007, Joey Handley. Gabriel's method of teaching is relaxed, yet enthusiastic he strives for making even the most complex musical ideas as simple as possible, and overall making learning fun.

Great teacher for learning basic to advanced skills!

Gabe is a great teacher to get students started learning their basic skills on piano, drums, guitar or bass. He is really patient and takes the time to make sure the student really learns each specific skill. Gabe picks out exercises that make learning new skills fun and even arranges the students favorite pop tunes to help fit in with the skills being taught. Gabe really makes lessons fun and helps students learn the songs that keep them excited about playing!!

Susan L B.

Milwaukee, WI

About Susan L

I have a broad classical education with a great deal of music experience. I received my professional education in the University of Oregon's School of Music, where I specialized in Opera Performance and Languages, and at the Music Conservatory in Perugia, Italy. I also studied History and Philosophy, History of Performance Techniques, Acting, Italian and French diction and phonics, and Music Performance Theory. While in Oregon, I performed with Eugene Opera! Company and the Oregon Symphony. I am a Certified Singing Vocal Specialist, familiar with Speech Level Singing, and the Estille philosoph
y. I also have experience as a Music Librarian, specializing in music manuscripts, recordings, indexes and scores.

Academic tutoring and Private Piano, Keyboard, and Voice Lessons are available, weekly or bi-weekly, using solid classical technique. Training in Opera arias, and Broadway songs, Ballads or Jazz. For children I can teach reading, writing, piano, music appreciation, reading sheet music, written music theory, ear training, different styles of music and rhythm, or the cadences and intonations and rhythms of Romance languages.

Vocal Training is also available for Pageant Preparation, College Preparation, Actors, Audition Preparation, Corporate/Public Speaking, and ESL practice. I have experience teaching English, and can teach you advanced English pronunciation and grammar. I also teach English literature and poetry. All ages are welcome to inquire.

I believe in a holistic physical approach to singing. Your body is your instrument, and whole body exercise is essential to building stamina, and I can direct that development. With increasing strength and deep breathing, a singer can relax, and the sound will carry. There will be no need to strain when "belting" with proper preparation and technique, and you will be heard in the back row! It is also ideal to understand the words and their meanings in each phrase of the music or selection. I can help you interpret songs or audition pieces in a variety of languages. You will learn the natural pacing of each song and explore the meaning and emotional effect you can express! Each voice is unique. Let's work together to find music which is uniquely suited to your voice!

Keyboard, Violin, Viola, Guitar, sheet music

*** Travel Equipment ***
Keyboard, Guitar, pitch pipes, sheet music

Paul N.

Milwaukee, WI

Learn music theory from note reading to chord structures to major/minor keys.

Ear training is also taught with music theory.

About Paul

***My goal as a teacher***

I try to teach what the students are interested in and make it fun and interesting so that they learn the lessons and their favorite songs. Every student is different and needs to be taught in a way that makes learning easy and fun for them.

I have a passion for all people and all ages and am blessed to be able to teach from the very young, (ages 2-5 Kindermusik lessons) to teens and adults.....all the way to senior citizens. I've had many older students all the way up to a 93 year old gentleman who is taking singing lessons and asked me to put music to his l
yrics. We have recorded over 50 songs together.

***Background***

I started playing trumpet in 5th grade and knew that music was for me. I also liked playing with drums and piano also because they seemed exciting. I've competed in WSMA (Wisconsin School Music Assoc.) for many years which taught me a lot about performing for judges, being relaxed, and the importance of preparation.

I started playing the guitar and bass guitar when I was 13 and have never stopped practicing and performing since. I also have done a lot of writing, recording, producing, and have a Pro Tools Studio for students to use.

***College and Teaching***

I began teaching music lessons in college and enjoyed it very much. I received my B.A. in Music from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. There I was very much involved with guitar, piano, voice, trumpet, and being in bands and writing music. After receiving my B.A. I also took 3 years of Education classes at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. I write, produce, and perform my music along with performing with bands around the Midwest.

***Life in Music***

After receiving my B.A. in Music, I continued teaching and opened up my home studio. After a year and a half I had enough students that I was able to quit my factory job and teach music full time. I've been teaching, performing, and writing music ever since.

***Performing and more***

I have been on stage performing music since I was 11. In school band, marching band, competing in music competitions, and in bands touring the Midwest.

I have recorded many CDs with bands and on my own. My most ambitious project was a CD of my original music called, "Girls". I've performed my music and promoted it by being interviewed on Milwaukee radio stations along with internet music sites such as CD Baby. It is very exciting talking on live radio about my music and my passion. It is also even more exciting, and scary, playing my music live on the radio, lol.

***Instruments Taught***

I have been teaching for over 2 decades. Students take lessons for:
* guitar (electric / acoustic)
* piano
* voice
* drums
* trumpet
* saxophone
* harmonica
* music theory / ear training
* studio recording / songwriting

I also give kindermusik lessons to 2-5 year old all the way up to senior citizens 70-93. I play parties, concerts, and Nursing Home performances.

I am experienced as an online (Skype) instructor, and I have taught online lessons worldwide. I've witnessed great results from my online students (both national and international).

I hope I can help you with all of your musical goals and get you going in a positive musical direction.

Good teacher and knows his stuff, but is too talkative and condescending. Lessons were interrupted by lectures to me on "life" and got off topic for several minutes (before I knew it the lessons were done because the lectures cut into our practice time). No real structure or lesson plan, just told me "the student is the boss and you decide where the lesson goes." Most teachers have a plan, structure, or goal for the student, at least by the 2nd lesson but not in this case. Also charged me for a cheap binder with music notes in it when I was done with the 1st lesson (which i would think is included in the price) and said it was optional, when in reality, I needed it to practice. If his lessons had more direction and he was more friendly, he would be a great teacher, but he was not for me.

Paul is a very patient and persevering teacher, he is particularly adept with the reluctant or difficult child, he never stops being encouraging and is dedicated to instilling knowledge to the child. I've had a very good experience with Paul and feel my child has gained some valuable musical knowledge at a young age which will become increasingly useful as time goes by.
