Marcela P.

Miami, FL

Students will be trained in Piano technique (position, fingering, sight reading for piano) as well as implementing beautiful and fun music pieces to each one's repertoire

About Marcela

Music is life!!!

I began music instruction at the age of 4 playing violin, piano and taking voice lessons, and I have not stopped since. I graduated doing a double major (Voice and Violin) from Universidad de Santander, Colombia, and now I am part of the Internationally Acclaimed Manny Perez Vocal Studio.

In the fall of 2012, I had the fantastic opportunity to work with one of the greatest opera stars of all times, Dame Montserrat Caballe, in Spain, who gave me fantastic reviews and compliments on the vocal technique and interpretation of the bel canto repertoire.

I was also, the Gran
d Winner in the opera competition "The Majesty of the Voice" on a worldwide transmitted program presented by Univision. I have also been granted with the title of Colombian Cultural Ambassador three times and have been invited to Music Festivals in Brazil, Mexico, Spain and various cities in the United States.

I played violin in orchestras and in different music ensembles (violin and piano) for about 15 years, and have also performed in both musical theater and opera, which has given me a broader range of understanding in Music, Artistry and Interpretation.

I have performed with Opera Companies such as Vero Beach Opera, Gold Coast Opera, Opera Atelier, Gratelli Opera Company, and as a part of Florida Grand Opera, and in different opera concerts such as Kampong Opera Concert,Steinway Piano Concert Series, Opera Tonight, Night of Opera Concerts –concert series organized by the city of Doral-, and the New York Night of Music.

As you can see I have a great deal of experience and expertise in many areas, and I look forward to sharing all of this and more with my students.

*** Lesson Details ***
First of all, we need to start with motivation and commitment!
I guarantee that you will have fun while learning during the time you're with me! I know lessons can be intimidating at first, but they have to be fun and that's part of my job.
I teach in both Spanish and English, according to my student preferences.

We will start recognizing what materials are good for you, based on method/technique systems, songs and performing pieces, and preferences that you may have.
We will make special efforts to invest in each student’s particular needs and accommodate to the system that work best in your case, utilizing a variety of tools such as flash cards, rhythm exercises with a metronome, and supplemental workbooks, e.g. ear training, sight reading, note spelling, etc. as necessary.

Within the first months, we'll be learning how to read music and understand the language of it. We'll learn how to play or sing some of your favorite songs and learn some that you might not know.

For the intermediate and advanced students, we will focus on a better understanding of Music Theory and Interpretation and how to apply it while performing. Soon, you'll be learning and performing pieces you dreamed of!
For singers, we'll learn about vocal techniques, breathing, getting your best vocal sound and discovering how to take a song to its potential! We'll also learn performance techniques, how to work with a microphone, have a great stage presence in front of a live audience.

Because music is a performing art, My goal also is create some opportunities for you to perform, so I organize one to two music recitals each year for students who are interested. This is an optional event and you can try to do it whenever you feel ready. It is usually held at a small recital room and presented in a low-stress and fun way!

It's a journey that is exciting and unique, so let's make beautiful music together!

I have never played piano before--ever--and in three lessons, Karen has me playing with both hands, and understanding music theory. She is SO sweet--even my husband thinks she's adorable and kind. I really enjoy my hour long practice with her once a week. She is getting me kickstarted so I can eventually play songs along with Sara Bareilles music and the like.

great vocal coach!

Karen always has a smile on her face. Very encouraging and optimistic teacher. Knows exactly what I need to work on and the exercises to accomplish it. She also got the music for any song I wanted to sing and emailed me the instrumental tracks so I could practice on my own. I will miss her very much!

Absolutely amazing!!! Highly recommended!!!

We live out of state and was temporarily relocated to Miami and found Karen online. Based on her previous reviews, we gave it a gamble that paid off!!!! Our little one can sometimes be distracted like any 10 yr old but Karen was patient and GREAT with her!!! The best part, she learned the piano much faster with Karen than she has with any other teacher. Karen recharged our 10 yr old's passion for the piano and made the learning experience fun again. Thank goodness because now I know our baby grand piano won't go to waste at home! I highly recommend Karen for any parent - she's reliable and trustworthy. I wish we could take her back with us to continue teaching the little one but I don't think Karen will go for it. For all parents, definitely choose Karen! She's worth every penny and more.

I am really happy to have found Axel. I have no singing experience and recently joined a church choir. He was able to show me how to get the best out of my voice and build self confidence. His teaching style is well organized and after every class my voice sounded better to my ears than before.

Very happy student!
