Hello my name is Catalina, I am a freelance composer, clarinetist, and educator. I hold a Master of Music Degree from Florida International University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Lewis & Clark College. I am currently adjunct faculty at Florida International University teaching music history and I am also part of the school of music staff as marketing assistant. I am, and always will be an advocate of the arts, and their importance for cultural growth. My future plans include advanced studies in composition focusing on how notation affects interpretation and music theory, and vice versa, with special interests in gender, and culture. If you are looking for clarinet or piano lessons, or music theory, or composition lessons, please sign up!
I have been teaching saxophone, clarinet, flute, and piano for over a year and a lot of the skills learned in one instrument can be carried over to the other with no problem. My teaching emphasizes the theoretical aspects of music as well as the audible aspects. This means that not only will you understand what a minor third is but you will also know what it should sound like. I also teach how to practice by providing the tools and techniques on efficient and effective practice.
Music is my passion and has been since I was a child. My hope is to teach and pass on my passion on to you, the student! I graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Composition and have been teaching clarinet, saxophone, flute, and piano for over a year. I would be very delighted to extend my teaching topics to include music theory and composition to anyone that shows interest. I'm always looking for new ways of explaining concepts and making sure the student understands the material before moving on and I hope you acquire the same passion for music as I have!
