My daughter was so nervous for her first lesson and Phillip was amazing. She is 14 and said, "He didn't make me feel bad that I am not as good as I should be and so that makes me feel like maybe i can play better."
So grateful Phillip - she is anxious to spend the summer learning from you - we appreciate your approach and as he said ability to "put her at ease" so she can feel comfortable to learn. Awesome first lesson.

I have been teaching horn lessons for more than a decade, with experience working with students from absolute beginners to much more advanced players. I love working individually with students and helping them to meet their individual goals! In the course of lessons, I am happy to cover playing notes and melodies, warm ups, practice strategies, pertinent music history and theory, and instrument maintenance.

Mr. Phelps is an outstanding instructor! He worked with my large group, small group, and private lessons students. As a band director, I truly appreciated his professionalism and demeanor with all of my students of all ages and levels - very supportive and very encouraging. His lesson are high-energy and up-tempo, the kids loved it! Chris is an excellent choice for lessons. I highly recommend him!

Chris was a great teacher and help to our daughter. He was also very flexible with our schedule and often helped us move the time to fit perfectly...on Sunday no less! Within a short time both her band leader and us could hear the difference in her performance. Super nice nice guy too and that’s coming from a Gators fan (if you follow college football you will understand this). Best of luck up there Chris!

I am adept at teaching proper technique in a way that makes horn playing easy and fun! I aim to address healthy principles of beautiful sound production, as well as attention to detail, phrasing, and overall aristry. For newer players, the focus will lie on building a solid, efficient technique, which in time can expand into beautiful music making. I teach students of any level.

About Joe

Hello, all! I am Joseph Alberico, and I currently study Horn Performance at the Eastman School of Music, pursuing a Bachelor's degree. I am under the tutelage, primarily, of W. Peter Kurau, the Principal Horn of the Rochester Philharmonic. I have also studied with many other horn heroes, including

Joe Alberico is a musician who is very well versed in speaking about the tips and tricks when expressing the sounds an instrument can make. While he may be talented in speaking through the horn he’s also very talented in explaining the steps in how to do so at a high level. When I was preparing a solo originally meant for horn, he seemed to know everything about the motion of every phrase in the piece and what is necessary on how to achieve a true beauty is a piece’s story. With his teachings he has made me a better musician as he opened my eyes to what power there is behind music and how we can achieve that said impact that music sets to accomplish.
Morris
Working with Joe has been one of the most profitable musical experiences I have ever had the opportunity of having. His knowledge of music theory and his technical and musical know-how on the French horn are unparalleled, and his compassion as an educator were incredibly helpful in my musical journey. Joe is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to chamber music, orchestral excerpts, and general technical playing.
Dave
Joe showed me that classical music could be exciting and engaging. By talking to him about the particularities and subtleties that every piece holds, I was able to understand just how beautiful every great work really was. By hearing him then play those pieces, I was able to hear exactly what we were discussing. In short, Joe has opened up a side of music I'd never considered, and that makes me a better listener, collaborator, and player.

Mrs. Halbert has had many students over the years, and all of them have embraced music in some form or another in their lives since. She has had students attend summer programs such as Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Camp as well as travel to Europe through programs like Blue Lake’s International Youth Orchestra. Her students have attended Solo and Ensemble and achieved high marks on both solo and chamber works. When teaching, she finds that learning by imitation is the most useful tool, though she does not believe that any one teaching technique can work for every student. Through the assignment of exercises and solo’s, she will help students to develop their own unique musicianship and artistry that can be applied to any creative endeavors they pursue in their lives. Her overall goal when working with students is helping them to achieve a greater confidence in themselves while aiding them in their artistic development.

"My son has had Oliver as an instructor since Jan 2020. He has been excellent!

Oliver has been great at teaching my son technical improvements for better french horn sound.

Moreover, I set up an University professor friend of mine to talk to Oliver to learn how to do online music lessons.

He's been great!!"

"My son has been taking lessons from Mr. Gallo for this entire school year. He started out not even knowing how to hold the horn or buzz on the mouthpiece. Mr. Gallo has been instrumental in teaching him this year. Yes, my son was in band, but he really needed the extra instruction to be successful with such a hard instrument. What I appreciate about Mr. Gallo's teaching style is he is very encouraging and he is very clear about establishing a good foundation for playing the horn. He knows the proper techniques to strengthen the embouchure and the musical exercises needed to succeed. He has been a very reliable teacher and he was always willing to help my son with anything needed, such as helping him prepare for his solo competition. Overall, I am very impressed with how much my son has learned this year with Mr. Gallo's instruction and he went on to get the highest possible score in his solo competition and more importantly he really enjoys playing the french horn."
