Since Allegheny County is moving to the green phase of reopening, I am beginning to phase in in-person lessons again. Please be aware that if you want to take in-person lessons, they will have to be socially distanced for the time being.

I have been studying horn for over ten years, and learning to play music has truly changed my life by giving me a powerful voice for creative expression as well as by instilling a strong work ethic and the drive to succeed. I am eager to give back some of what music has given to me by passing on my knowledge to others! I received my Bachelor's degree in Horn Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where I studied with Kevin Rivard (Principal horn, San Francisco Opera) and Robert Ward (Principal horn, San Francisco Symphony). Lessons with me will be tailored to the individual student's level and goals. Getting my students excited about music and making lessons fun is very important me, as well as instilling a ...

"Our son has been taking Horn lessons from Mr. Olivier for a year and a half (our son has only been playing horn for that amount of time) and loves it. Olivier doesn't just teach notes, he always takes care to foster musicality in our son. He has supported and helped our son prepare for All-Districts and Youth Symphony auditions where our son has secured first chair in both. We truly believe our son would not be this successful without Mr. Olivier's guidance. If you are interested in growing musically while mastering this beautiful instrument, he is the teacher for you! Always finding new pieces, and warm-up exercises to keep our son excited! Thank you Mr. Olivier"

"My son started in-person lessons with Emily in the fall of 2019. We went online with her during the Covid-19 shutdown. The two of them never missed a beat (music pun intended)! I feel like he has continued to show good growth as a horn player. Emily does a wonderful job of teaching proper technique while using my son's own interests to keep him playing. For example, my 12-year-old is a Pokemon fan, so Emily found Pokemon theme sheet music for the horn as well as video game themes. He really loved that and I appreciate that she knows how to connect with kids to help them learn a challenging instrument. I am thankful that my son's band teacher recommended Emily and I, in turn, wholeheartedly recommended her to any future horn players."

"My son enjoys his music lessons with Jonathan, who is infinitely patient teaching what can be a challenging instrument. My son responds well to Jonathan's instruction, and he appreciates having access to a professional performer as a teacher. Jonathan encourages my son to learn a variety of music, including both challenging classical pieces and more recognizable popular and jazz pieces, which helps to sustain his interest in the lessons."
