Taught me techniques to preserve my voice

I'm a rock singer and prone to scream sometimes. As I've gotten older, I've noticed my voice wears out a lot quicker than it used to. After taking lessons with Laurelanne, she found I never learned proper technique when singing in this style. She showed me how to make adjustments and I've seen a lot of improvement with how long I can sing in my style.
Stephen M. Alpharetta, GA

I like to teach each lesson, for both voice and piano, by spending equal time on ear-training/sight-reading (sight-singing), technique, and repertoire. Especially for beginners, I highly encourage ear-training as part of their practice time at home because it teaches all musicians to internalize the music before their fingers touch the keys or they open their mouths to sing. I can honestly say it's one of the most valuable musical skills I've learned.

When training the voice it can be difficult since singers can't see their instrument. For this reason I prefer not to teach students younger than middle school age, but I may make an exception. Beginning vocal technique involves correcting the student’s posture, releasing muscular tension in the upper body (chest, upper back, shoulders, neck, and everything above), deep breathing, and the list goes on. However, I can sum up vocal technique as bodily adjustments that take muscular tension off the vocal cords. No matter the ...

About Stephen

Since he was seven years old, Mr. M. knew he wanted to be a singer. Once he heard the glorious voices of the three tenors (Domingo, Carreras, and Pavarotti), he knew he must spend his life learning to make those awe-inspiring sounds. It was at this time when he started singing in church choir, and Mr. M. highly encourages all aspiring singers to join a community choir or church choir as soon as they’re able. Throughout his musical education at Georgia State University (Bachelors and Masters Degrees), he gained a firm musical foundation in vocal technique, ear-training, sight-reading, music theory, and a renewed appreciation for making music as part of a group. In addition, he had the good fortune to learn from some of the most phenomenal musicians in Atlanta: Dwight Coleman, Dr. ...

I am totally new to singing and this was my very first class so I was quite apprehensive. Stephen however was able to create a safe environment and within minutes I felt that it was right, that taking singing classes was not a crazy idea.

I am very happy and I hope I will be able to take many more classes with Stephen.

Mr. McCool is an excellent teacher! He just naturally shares his love for music with his students and this is a beautiful thing to experience. He is always patient and encouraging during our son's piano lessons. He is firm and serious when necessary but always friendly and kind. His teaching style is absolutely perfect for our 12 year old son who is motivated so much more by encouragement than by criticism. Stephen has a gift with children...he shows a sincere interest in what's going on in our son's life (they always have a little chat before his lesson begins). We are fortunate to have have found a wonderful music mentor for our son. I would highly recommend Mr. Stephen McCool to anyone interested in voice and/or piano lessons.

Mr. Stephen M. is the best vocal teacher I have ever had. Originally, he was a vocal teacher at my school Woodward Academy. When he told me he was leaving Woodward, I made arrangements to continue taking voice lessons with him, because of how talented he was. He can truly change voices. He will push any student to reach their full potential. Most vocal teachers only focus on the basics: pitch, rhythm, and diction, but he goes beyond that and focuses on the basics as well as more advanced concepts. He will teach you all about posture, tone, emotion, sound placement, vowels, mouth shaping, and the history of the music. Although I am leaving for college, I will truly miss taking lessons with Mr. Stephen M. and hope that my musical experience in college will be as good as the one he provided me with in high school. If you want to take your voice to the next level, Mr. Stephen M. is the only option!

Excellent vocal coach

I've been taking lessons with Jared for a few months now, and I am very pleased with the progress. Jared is really easy to work with, get along with, and is very adaptable. His approach is built off of what you (the student) wants, and finding the best way to achieve that. I would recommend Jared as a vocal coach for any singing style, any gender, and anybody who wants to become a great singer.

Aimee W. Mableton, GA

I have been singing since the age of 3. I work with operatic fundamentals; Nicola Vaccai and Seth Riggs Speech Level Singing.
These give a student note reading fundamentals, an understanding of intervals and how to sing all of them, and breathing and timing technique. I do not teach solely opera! I am a Jazz, R & B, and pop singer, with a multi-octave range and extensive repertoire. If I am unfamiliar with an artists' music I take the time to learn it. How can you teach what you don't know?

About Aimee

Hello! My name is Aimee and I am looking forward to meeting you. I have been teaching for 13 years and love helping my students achieve their musical goals. I believe every student is unique and therefore feel it is necessary to give each student a learning approach that is suitable to their individual ability. Every lesson with me will provide to the student consistent advancement in musical knowledge. Whether it is Playing guitar, Singing, ( or both), or Playing piano, I will help you get where you want to be. I do incorporate in the Lesson Plan, learning Music Theory to the applied instrument. I encourage a positive approach to learning music to ensure goals are met.

Amy is a GREAT teacher who works with any issues and can pin point ones you are not aware of while learning. I highly recommend her for lessons. As a female, it is easy to get intimidated by male instructors who do not have the patience to deal with the woman, Amy has that gift.

I found Aimee through TakeLessons after not being very satisfied with my daughter's previous guitar teacher. From my first conversation with Aimee, I knew choosing her was going to be the right decision. Her experience and expertise shows as she knows how to teach and is good at it. My wife and I feel blessed to have found Aimee and that she is our daughter's teacher now. We are planning to have her start teaching our youngest son piano.
