I have a very easy going attitude that helps my students feel comfortable. At the same time, I expect hard work and diligence as the student progresses. I don't want to waste anyone's time or money...the only way to improve is to work hard. I use a variety of curriculum depending on the student's level and desire. For example, for beginning adults I use the curriculum "Everybody's Singing". After several months with me, a student will have gained a great deal of confidence and seen an improvement in his or her overall technique, as well as intonation and pitch.

As an adult with no singing experience ever, I was quite nervous to try my first singing lesson. Naara put me right at ease from the very beginning and made me excited to come back. Her advice is spot on and delivered in a very supportive way. I learned a lot and gained so much confidence with my singing in very little time. I would highly recommend Naara for voice lessons.

Ken S.

Seattle, WA

About Ken

Greetings! My name is Ken and I am a piano and voice teacher teaching from my studio in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Seattle. I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Music from Western Washington University in Bellingham with an emphasis in voice. As a freelance vocalist, I perform many different styles from opera, musical theater/Broadway, sacred songs and hymns, as well as old-school ballads. I have sung all over the Pacific Northwest (WA, ID, OR) with many different groups and organizations, including the Bellevue Opera, Puget Sound Opera, Fat Chance! Opera Company, Seattle Glee Clu
bs, in numerous community events, fundraisers, and churches. I was also a first-place winner in the Performing Arts Festival Eastside in the vocal/opera division. As a pianist, I am currently serving as the pianist/keyboard player for the Worship Team at a church in South Seattle.

I have a passion for sharing and teaching music to others and helping people discover their own musical potential. My goal is to help students to learn how to use their respective instruments, helping to develop an appreciation and enjoyment for music so that in the future, they can pass down their love of singing/playing to others, so that they too can enjoy it as well. I'm looking forward to guiding you throughout the learning process and making sure it's fun and memorable!

*** Lesson Details ***
I approach music like learning a new language. With my beginning piano students, I start off with the basic music vocabulary which helps build a solid foundation for music theory. We then apply the technical concepts to piano playing, such as getting familiar with the keyboard, finger/hand positions, basic movements, etc. We then can build upon the foundations and incorporate additional material for variety (such as music note flash cards). I use the Alfred Piano Series as a curriculum and choose the appropriate level based on the student's needs. I also encourage students to bring in music that they would like to try out and learn as it's a great way to stay motivated, being able to play music that is interesting to you.

As for voice, I mainly train in a classical style which helps develop a good foundation for vocal technique and teach beginners all the way to advanced students. Initially, I would ask the new student to bring in a song to sing so that I can hear what they sound like (tone), checking for pitch issues, breathing, as well as musicality. From there, I can usually identify the technical issues and able to give the student an idea of what we can work on. Usually for voice, there is really no printed curriculum to use as it's based on each student's strengths and weaknesses, tailoring more so to their needs.

After a few months, the students can expect to learn the basic fundamentals of musical vocabulary, such as the names of the notes, common rhythmic patters, as well as simple sight-reading skills, phrasing, and overall basic musicianship.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music/office room w/ upright piano and seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
Piano - Alfred's Piano Books, utilize visual approach, basic sight reading and also playing by ear
Voice - Classical technique, opera, musical theater/Broadway, sacred songs, love ballads

Cyndi E.

Issaquah, WA

I've been training singers of all ages for over 30 years. My major areas of expertise vocal styling, inflections, singing with power, proper mouth position etc.

About Cyndi

Cyndi has been very successful as a singer/songwriter, artist developer, producer and teacher. Originally hailing from Dayton, Ohio, she has resided in Los Angeles for many years. She has performed all over the United States and the world as an artist singing on cruise lines such as The Royal Carribean, Carnival, NCL etc., and has shared the stage with The Jackson's, Barbara Striesand, Stevie Wonder, CeCe Winans and many others. Cyndi is currently music director and artist for the tribute act, "The Voices of the Supremes, which performs in various venues throughout the United States and abr
oad. She is also President/CEO of her own Entertainment company, Neuhaus Entertainment Group, and has produced CD projects for numerous up and coming artists.

As a teacher, Cyndi has taught "Vocal Technique" to students of all ages ranging from 6-70 for the past 25 years. She was Youth and Young Adult Music Director for Crenshaw Christian Center, one of the largest churches in America, as well as A&R for their record label. As a songwriter/producer/artist developer on staff for 12 years, she produced numerous CD projects. Her song, "The Power of Faith," that she wrote for the Ever Increasing Faith broadcast can be heard all over the world daily on both television and radio. Because of her meticulous instruction, many of her students have gone on to obtain professional careers in the entertainment industry singing backup vocals for named acts such as Ameridan Idol, Fantasia, Gospel recording great, Kim Burrell, Nikki Minaj. Adam Lambert, starring in the lead role of Young Simba in the Lion King Production at the Pantages Theatre, recording the title song for the movie "Another Cinderella Story II, singing for Middleweight Champion of the World, Sugar Shane Mosley at Madison Square Gardens, another of her students went on to become part of the Grammy award winning girl group "Isis" and yet another is one of the main cast members on the hit TV show "Glee".

As a teacher, I get immense satisfaction from seeing my students excel and fly using the techniques and tools that I have taught them," Cyndi says beaming with pride. "My students have done tremendous things in the industry and it is my pleasure to continue to pass down the nuggets of wisdom and skill that I've obtained from over 30 years in the entertainment business."

Cyndi's training began at age 8 where she studied classical piano for 6 years. By age 15, she and her brother released their first independent single which did reasonably well locally. By age 19, while studying music at Ohio University, she along with her brother won "Right On" magazine's nationwide talent search and were offered two major recording contracts. She decided to sign with Philadelphia International Records under the auspices of Grammy Award winning producer, Thom Bell (who was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame). She studied under Thom Bell and it was there that she learned the art of record production. She also studied vocal production under legendary Grammy Award winning producer, Hal Davis (Jackson five fame). Cyndi was taught proper vocal technique by vocal trainer to the stars, Seth Riggs and continued her private studies learning the vocal techniques of the great Alan Linquist. Her teaching style has subsequently morphed into a combination of all these great inspirational instructors.

As a teacher, Cyndi is kind, patient and extremely enthusiastic when it comes to instructing her students. Her students always see her as their friend and one who they know will bring out the best in them and desires that they grow to their fullest potential.

*** Lesson Details ***
When you come to Cyndi for voice lessons, you can rest assured that your vocals will never be the same. She is as comfortable teaching the beginner as she is instructing the seasoned professional who wants to hone their skills even further. She can always bring something out of you that you didn't know was there. Maybe it's the confidence that she exudes when she instructs, maybe it's her innate ability to know what's needed at any given time to make the student better. But whatever it is, you can rest assured that your lesson will be fun, thorough, and the lesson plan that she devises will cause you to arrive at the musical goals that you've set for yourself. She can help you or your child prepare for upcoming auditions, as well as any other scheduled performance. Cyndi will create a lesson plan that will certainly be tailor-made for your style and needs.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring my Cd player to play tracks etc....the student should have a recording device to record the lesson, whatever performance tracks we'd be working from, and a keyboard would be helpful but not necessary.

*** Specialties ***
My style of vocal training concentrates on singing in the 'Ng" position and using cuperto as the primary way to produce more tone with less effort. I also train my students to breath properly utilizing the lower lumbar area along with breathing from their diaphragm. I generally train vocal students in all genres of music and I stress stage presence in conjunction with proper vocal technique.

Cyndi is amazing! I noticed an improvement in my singing after our first lesson. Since then she has been helping me to focus in on all those little details that make jazz such a beautiful art. She pushes me to perfect every detail and I am a better singer because of it! Her focus on technique is critical to jazz singing. To top it all of, she is one of the nicest people I've ever met!

Krista J.

Renton, WA

About Krista

Hello! Thanks for checking out my page! My name is Krista, and I'm a musical theatre actress and teacher. I grew up in Renton and attended the University of Washington, where I earned my BA in Theatre and a minor in Education. Since then, I have gone on to perform in many of Seattle's best theatres, including Seattle Musical Theatre, Lyric Light Opera, At the Ridge Theatre, Second Story Repertory, and The 5th Avenue. I love performing and believe that there is nothing like being onstage and making an audience feel something through your performance!

I have been teaching for many years
at various theatre intensives and summer camps and currently teach dance, acting, and voice at two schools in the Renton area. I love people and love interacting with all ages! It is a joy to be able to pass on skills that bring me so much happiness to those who are younger or just entering the exciting world of performance! I especially enjoy doing one-on-one audition prep to make sure that that monologue or song you are going to try out with is in solid shape!

Please contact me to let me know what kind of training you are looking for (whether it be a focus on dance, audition prep, voice, etc.), and we can talk about what our lessons would entail and how I could help to best meet your interests. Looking forward to hearing from you!
