French Horn:
A brass instrument made of tubing wrapped into a coil with a flared bell. The double horn in F/Bb is the horn most often used by players in professional orchestras and bands. Pitch is controlled through the combination of the following factors: speed of propulsion of air through the instrument, diameter and tension of lip aperture in the mouthpiece. The pitch of any note can easily be raised or lowered by adjusting the hand position in the bell. Starting with the basics we would first learn breathing and fingering techniques, notes, reading, rhythms, and songs. As the student progresses scales, theory and soloing will be taught.

Karen is an incredibly skillful teacher. She is very passionate about music and it easy to be comfortable with her. She shares her training and knowledge very clearly. The vocal exercises seem very unique and holistic for body and voice health. She is very encouraging, caring, and soul-uplifting. I feel like I have a new connection with my voice and all that is connected to using it... as an instrument and the journey is only just starting. 45 minutes went by so fast. I am looking forward to my next lessons.

I thought I wanted to take viola lessons. Then I read her website and I realized that she might be able to help me get my voice back! I thought there was no hope ever. She has been extremely generous with her time, and I haven't seen her yet, but I'm not buying the viola I was planning on buying. I play cello, and piano still, but I am going to see if she can help me with my voice. She sounds incredible. I never dreamed that I could even have HOPE like this!

At 40, I decided to pick up the tuba that I’d kept since playing in college. I wanted to get off to a solid start. I found in Bryan a solid teacher with a wealth of all sorts of musical knowledge. I implemented the lessons into practice and felt myself grow stronger in some areas than I had ever experienced in my first 10 years of practice and learning. I was also able to see a marked improvement in my bass guitar skills by applying many of the same concepts to the playing of that instrument. These lessons have been a great investment for my musicianship.
Kunjan
Bryan has very unique lesson plans and can channel his musical thoughts very clearly. He was very understanding and reflective of my needs. He then presented me with a series of mental models and exercises which i am certain will make me not just a better pianist but a better musician and also help me appreciate music better.

I would highly highly recommend Bryan and i will certainly continue the musicial journey with him.

Mrs. Halbert has had many students over the years, and all of them have embraced music in some form or another in their lives since. She has had students attend summer programs such as Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Camp as well as travel to Europe through programs like Blue Lake’s International Youth Orchestra. Her students have attended Solo and Ensemble and achieved high marks on both solo and chamber works. When teaching, she finds that learning by imitation is the most useful tool, though she does not believe that any one teaching technique can work for every student. Through the assignment of exercises and solo’s, she will help students to develop their own unique musicianship and artistry that can be applied to any creative endeavors they pursue in their lives. Her overall goal when working with students is helping them to achieve a greater confidence in themselves while aiding them in their artistic development.

Hi there! I'm Alex and I have had a passion for teaching others for as long as I can remember! My main goal is to make learning a fun and individualized journey!

Some info about me:

I started working with children/youth at a very young age which taught me patience, kindness and understanding. I have worked with families with children ages 1 month to 20 years old, children with special and extraordinary needs, and many different demographic and socio-economic backgrounds. I am currently a High School Special Education Teacher with my Masters Degree in Mild/Moderate Disabilities.

Music has always held a special spot in my heart! From a young age, I explored the musical world until I fell in love with the French Horn. I spent time learning not only in school bands, but in youth orchestras and in the SDSU Wind Symphony as section leader. During my time at SDSU, I also taught private French Horn lessons for 4 years.

I am also a High School volleyball coach (women and mens ...

"I highly recommend Emily to teach any horn player at any level! She is an incredible player and has a beautiful rich tone all around the instrument. As a professional horn player in various orchestras and instructor at Cornell University and Binghamton University, I can honestly guarantee that you would be very happy to learn from her! She is a very kind person, but also very serious about teaching you to play the instrument correctly. She had been taught by the best teachers out there and you will learn to play the horn properly by doing all the fundamentals needed, but you will also have fun while learning from her! Emily is the best!"

"Emily is an amazing educator and engages our son in his horn lessons in such a way that he has grown soooo much as a musician in the last two years. Emily has created opportunities for him to see professional Horn players engaging in their craft as well as supported him as he tried new avenues of challenge such as Solo & Ensemble, honor band, and CCM’s youth wind ensemble. We are ever grateful that benji has the privilege of studying with Emily Toth!"
