Vince T.

Philadelphia, PA

The trumpet is one of the most demanding yet rewarding instruments. As a dominant voice in classical and jazz; the trumpet can be a section or solo instrument.

As his primary instrument, Vince began playing trumpet in 1998. He took lessons provided by his elementary school. Vince advanced rapidly, quickly winning principle chair in school ensembles and later with select county and state wide bands. He participated in many solo competitions performing classical and jazz trumpet throughout middle and high school.

In 2003, Vince began studying classical trumpet privately with Mark Klose then later with John Maguda. Vince studied many of the classic methods including Arban's Complete Conservatory Method, Schlossberg's Daily Drills and Technical Studies, Clarke's Technical Studies, and Stamp's Warm-Ups & Studies. Vince also studied solo repertoire by Hindemith, Haydn, and Kennan among others.

While cultivating the classical foundation, Vince focused on jazz trumpet. He listened,

About Vince

Vince Tampio is a professional trumpeter, arranger, composer, educator, and multi-instrumentalist in the Philadelphia and New York regions. His primary instrument is trumpet; he also performs on assorted brass and electric bass. Vince holds a Masters of Music degree in Jazz Performance from the University of the Arts; and holds a Bachelor of Science in Music degree concentrating in Jazz Studies and Theory & Composition from the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz.

Vince studied jazz trumpet through undergraduate and graduate school with Rebecca Coupe Franks, Dennis Wasko, and
John Swana. Vince has also attended master classes held by Matt Gallagher, Craig Morris, Claudio Roditi, Malcolm McNab, Scott Holbert, Jeffrey Curnow, and Alison Balsom.

Vince first began teaching music in 2006 as the trumpet instructor at Silver Creek Central School. He directed trumpet master classes for high school students. Vince later took on various private students teaching trumpet, guitar, electric bass, improvisation, and arrangement and composition. While earning his Master of Music at the University of the Arts, he served as the trumpet department intern and was responsible for teaching private trumpet lessons, preparing transcriptions for class materials and live performances, and proctoring music theory exams.

Also at UArts, Vince was a teaching assistant for the Freshman Jazz Improvisation class for which he conducted sectionals, administered exams, and offered critiques regarding inventiveness of improvisations. He currently teaches a number of electric bass students at Philadelphia's Rock to the Future. Vince privately teaches trumpet, electric bass guitar, ear training, music theory, improvisation, arrangement, and composition to students of all ages and levels.

Each student approaches music differently, and Vince tailors his teaching to fit that approach. He asks a student what they're aiming to accomplish, then set short and long term goals in order to acheive them. Vince believes a strong technical foundation leads to freer ease of artistic expression. His students receive a wholistic approach to music on whatever instrument of their choice.

Vince is the trumpeter and arranger for Philadelphia’s premier 1960’s soul tribute band the York Street Hustle. Additional bands Vince has performed with and arranged for include the John Byrne Band, the Cat’s Pajamas, You Do You, Red 40 & The Last Groovement, and Heyward Howkins spanning genres of rock, soul, folk, funk, jazz, electronic, and more. He is also a founding member of Philadelphia's answer to the Memphis Horns, the Philly Phatness horn section. Vince has appeared on more than 20 albums during the past five years, including his own debut solo album SYZYGY, and its follow up, SYZYGY: Remix. Fast becoming a sought after trumpet and arranger, Vince continually pursues work performing, arranging, composing, teaching and recording original music.

Quotes:

"Vince plays his horn with creative passion and soul, his tone is very open and full these two combined make him one of the leading up and coming young Jazz trumpet players of today." - Rebecca Coupe Franks

"I've had the great pleasure of working with Vince as an arranger and writer. His music explores many styles and directions, and is always well crafted. He has an original and distinctive voice as a player, an arranger, and a writer. Such dedicated talent deserves to be heard, and I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot from Vince in the future." - Vinnie Martucci

My stepdaughter had trumpet lessons with Daniel over the summer to prepare her for band next year in school. He was very easygoing and flexible and she made great progress under his instruction in a short time. We would definitely use him again!

Francis S.

Philadelphia, PA

When you take lessons from me you can expect to get a full understanding of how to make music using your whole body, through the trumpet. The trumpet is simply an extension of your body and not the main production of the full, rich sounds which you will be able to produce.

About Francis

From the time I was a young child, when the high school band visited my elementary school, I have had a love for music...classical, jazz, inspirational, rock, etc. I've studied with such renown trumpet players as Tony Marchione, Dave Arndt, and Mike Natale, I developed my technique and abilities by discipline and making music fun. I participated in all band activities from elementary school through college and pursued a career in the United States Army military bands. After the military I continued playing in the semi-professional arena to include religious organizations, community theater a
nd local military and non-military bands. I have over 30 years experience teaching children and adults the rudiments of trumpet as well as introducing my students to a plethora of musical genres. My playing expertise is in jazz and classical trumpet. Let me find the hidden musician in your child, student or even in yourself.
