I am a skilled seamstress/costume designer and basket weaver. I have worked with theatrical companies like Cirque Due Soleil, LA Opera and the Pantages Theater. I also and run my own sewing & craft business from home, "Paula in Stitches". My teaching experience in Los Angeles has been at MOOD Designer Fabrics and Hands on Third. G

Any student can be confident I have the ability to teach anyone strong sewing & basketry skills from the very beginner to a more advanced student. I started my own sewing education in home economics in Jr. High School and have developed my skills over the years th
rough on the job training. I learned basketry in summer camp and have been self taught since the age of 13.

My capabilities have allowed me to become a sample sewer for designers like Greg Lauren , of the Ralph Lauren family and up and coming clothing companies like Freedman Denim.

My patience and enthusiasm for teaching a craft that I love is a strong asset my past students have enjoyed. Teaching is a relatively new adventure for me and I look forward to continuing to share this art form with you!

Marie B.

Glendale, CA

I have been sewing for over 30 years and teaching for over 12 years. I am a Fashion Design graduate (FIDM) and can teach sewing, sewing machine care and basics, fabric cutting, using a pattern, pattern alteration or drafting, and draping.

I can customize the class to your needs and interests. I can teach you the making of garments, costumes or home decoration items, it's up to you! I can't wait to teach you how to be proficient with your machine and hand sewing.

About Marie

I have worked in Animation for over 20 years, from traditional 2D animation to computer, initially in Canada, in Montreal, more precisely. In '97, I was hired by the Walt Disney Animation Studio to train their animators on the computer. I taught computer animation software, mainly Maya, and Photoshop to hundreds of talented artists here in Burbank. I was also creating and writing teaching materials, so I am well versed in Word, and Illustrator.

I really enjoy teaching, but after years of teaching animation software, I craved teaching something more meaningful, that wouldn't just help people
in their career, but in every aspect of their life. This is where Life Coaching got my attention. Through coaching, I can have a real positive impact in the world, one person at a time.

My other passion is Fashion Design. I am a Fashion Design graduate from FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising). I studied Fashion so I could make my own patterns. I have been sewing for over 30 years and just love creating clothing or costumes for my children and I, with commercial patterns or my own patterns. I am pretty crafty, really good at modifying patterns, and I have a great knowledge of fabrics. I love fashion illustration and the whole process of creating a line.

Lauren D.

Huntington Beach, CA

I've been sewing many styles of clothing for the past ten years, and as such I am familiar with various techniques and fabrics. My initial focus was historical clothing; I have extensive experience with historical research, silhouettes, and sewing techniques. I also make most of my own modern clothing and am quite versed in modern sewing needs. I can help with everything from understanding how to read patterns to learning machine or hand sewing to altering clothes for the perfect fit!

About Lauren

Hi there, I'm Lauren! I am a recent Berkeley graduate who completed a BA with honors in Classics and Art History. My greatest passions are sewing, English, and history. I first started sewing when I was thirteen and never stopped to look back! Since then I have sewn many types and styles of modern clothes. Additionally, I have extensive experience in historical fashions and historical sewing techniques! I've worked with all fabric types as well as drafting and flat patterning. My projects range from simple pillow cases to complicated Victorian corsets from scratch. With past projects featuring
embroidery, cross stitching, cording, and other decorative elements, I believe I can help you to better understand and explore the world of sewing!

I studied Classics and Art History in college and feel passionate about these topics, as well as English and literature. I worked on the editing board of several publications and would love to help you improve your writing, vocabulary, and grammar.
