One of my favorite instruments to teach-- I often say that my specialty is convincing people that they should play double reed instruments! Generally seen as more of a challenge, double reeds like the oboe can be frustrating for beginners, but don't worry-- I can guide you through any troubles and help you learn this beautiful instrument.
My approach is completely tailored to your individual needs. However, you can expect to focus on scales, etudes, solo repertoire, and perhaps even some more non-traditional fare, if you like (e.g. pop music, improvisation, etc.)! A focus is always given to developing and refining technique, creating supported tone production, and being as musically expressive as possible.
I am a freelance oboe and English horn player in the Chicagoland area. I have a Master of Music in Oboe Performance from Northern Illinois University and have been teaching for over 8 years. Music should be accessible to everyone and my teaching philosophy is to promote music understanding and education so the student can enjoy music for the rest of their life.
I have a Bachelor's and Master's in oboe performance and I offer 30, 45, and 60 min lessons either in person or online. Lessons incorporate music theory, technique, and lyrical expression. No matter your goals or ability, studying with a trained teacher will help you meet your goals quickly and efficiently.
