Cory B. Cypress, CA

My first instrument, many years ago, was the flute, and I credit it with showing me how wonderful learning music can be. Whether you are starting your musical journey or have been playing for years, I can help you take your playing to the next level.

About Cory

I am a classically trained performer with a Master's degree from London's Royal College of Music. I love finding each student's own learning style to tailor the experience, and I encourage my students to make their own decisions about musical expression (with plenty of guidance, of course!). In my work as a performer I have played with orchestras all over the world, from the South London Sinfonia to the Bombay Chamber Orchestra. My musical life is full of variety, and I think that the experiences I've had as a musician make me a creative and thoughtful teacher. *** Lesson Details *** I wouldn't call myself strict, but I do have high standards. I expect my students to put in the work at home, so that we can get the most out of lesson time, but I think that my expectations are ...

Cory was a great teacher for our son who brought him a deep insight into this difficult instrument. We hope to have her back again. Thanks, Cory!

Cory has been teaching my 11 year old son for only five lessons in Oboe and we couldn't be more than happier! Her calm and patient demeanor works well for my son. Cory is very knowledgeable and instructs my son without making it too overwhelming for him. Few weeks back, we had some company over and our son wanted to play a short piece for our guests. Everyone was so surprised that he only had two lessons and could play a melody (completely Cory's doing)! We feel lucky to have found a great instructor!

Great Instructor!

I only just started taking lessons a month and a half ago and have learned so much more than I expected. Mercedes is a great teacher and has not only taught me the fundamentals of playing, but also explains "how" and "why" I must do things.

Kara M. Los Angeles, CA

I teach beginning to early intermediate level flute, focusing on technical exercises and appropriate repertoire.

About Kara

From childhood I considered myself to be a singer and entertainer. Feeling called to a career in music, I began my undergraduate studies in piano and voice performance at the Wheaton College Conservatory near Chicago, Illinois. I then spent two years in France studying voice at the Conservatoire de Nancy and was awarded the Médaille d’Or in 2004. I then returned to the United States to pursue my singing career. In 2005, I had the honor of being selected to join the Maryland Opera Studio at the University of Maryland. As a member of this prestigious opera program, I performed the roles of Sophie in Massenet's "Werther", Anne Sexton in Conrad Susa's "Transformations" and Rose in the World Premiere of John Musto’s "Later the Same Evening." My love of new music has lead me to collaborate ...

Wonderful!

Kara has been my piano/voice teacher for the past few years.
She is an absolutely wonderful teacher. She is always encouraging, and her advice has always helped me immensely to perform better. Thanks to her, I won a place in the All State Chorus, and also parts in the school musical productions. She is always warm and friendly, has a fantastic sense of humor, so it was always a joy working with her. You cannot ask for a better teacher.

I had the distinct pleasure of studying voice with Ms. Kara Morgan over the past five years

I had the distinct pleasure of studying voice with Ms. Kara Morgan over the past five years. Prior to starting with her, I had not sung for a long period of time and it had been even longer since I studied voice. With her knowledge of the human voice and her ability to communicate vocal concepts, my vocal ability has exceeded my expectations. With Kara’s leadership and training, I have gained skill and confidence and I am now singing regularly as a choir member and a soloist. Diane Archer
Thomas F. Los Angeles, CA

About Thomas

From a young age, I have been deeply involved in the musical community. I began studying piano when I was three, and throughout my education, I’ve learned from such accomplished instructors as Belle Mehus and Christopher Taylor. After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance from The University of Mary in North Dakota, I continue to study, teach, perform, and compose. I’ve also studied guitar and bass for nearly twenty years.  I love playing and teaching these instruments because of the strong correlations between the way they are tuned and played and the way western music theory works—as well as the pure enjoyment that comes from them!  Additionally, I have twenty years of education in oboe and other woodwind instruments. I was principle oboist for two orchestras and reached ...

About Joseph

Joseph R. has 5 years of experience teaching students elementary, middle school-aged children and adults on to how to play keyboard, guitar, flute and saxophone while sharing his learning experience with them as a self-taught saxophone and flute player and his more conventional education on piano and guitar. After only a year of formal study, he began to experiment with other instruments such as the bamboo flute, the guitar and the drums. When he moved to the United States at the age of 13, he was introduced to the school’s band where he chose to hone his skills with the flute. Since then, he has been exposed to classical and symphonic repertoire. During high school, he joined the marching band and at ...
