Marissa R. Sunnyside, NY

I will help you choose repertoire and develop it for optimum vocal health, and beautiful, pure tonality.

About Marissa

I am a professional vocalist with a broad range of experience. With a Bachelor of Music (Musical Theater) from Belmont University I am more than qualified to teach with a well supported vocal foundation. As a true lover of music and arts, I encourage my students to sing as much as possible! My confident and exciting approach to singing brings out the best in my students, which translates beautifully to real life situations. *** Lesson Details *** Each person is different in nature and each performer has a personal style and goal. My goal is to get to know what kind of voice and style each student desires, and base the curriculum off of that knowledge. A basic lesson looks like this: 5 minutes of breathing exercises 10-25 minutes of vocal technique exercises (e.g. scales) ...

Sarah G. Brooklyn, NY

I specialize in classical singing and know a great deal of opera repertoire.

About Sarah

I am a performer and teacher residing in Brooklyn, NY. Although I am classically trained, my unique methods apply to all kinds of singing styles--even to speaking! I believe that music lessons should be fun and flexible. I work with my students to find exercises and songs that are most suited for their learning styles and tastes. *** Lesson Details *** My approach begins and ends with the breath. Breath creates pitch, rhythm, musicality, and emotion. If you think about it, each way we show our emotions begins with breath--laughing, crying, sighing, etc. I use a very natural approach to singing, exaggerating the noises we and the animal kingdom already make every day to sing in a very healthy, sustainable way. Have you ever wondered why a dog can bark for hours without tiring? Why a ...

The perfect teacher

Sarah G. has been my voice teacher for some months now. She has had only my untrained, rusty soprano to work with. But with patience and an expert knowledge of the way the body works to produce sound, she is retooling my voice into something that resembles a musical instrument. She knows both the limits and potential of my voice, pushes me into places I didn’t think I could go, and supports my attempts to go there. In other words, the perfect teacher. She is pleasant, prompt and professional, while being warm and encouraging. Her own beautiful voice is almost motivation enough for a student like me; if only I could sound like that.... Some day. Maybe.
Sarah’s own training has been exemplary. Julie Simson was her teacher at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where Sarah earned her bachelor’s degree in vocal performance. Moving on the McGill University, she received her master’s degree in opera performance under the tutelage of Aline Kutan. With her current coach, Gary Norden, Sarah is extending her training not only to create a singing career for herself, but to rebuild and refine voices like mine. I am lucky to have found her.

Knowledgeable and Patient!

I have been working with Sarah for almost 6 months and every time we meet I learn something new. She is extremely patient and knowledgeable and has a way of explaining techniques that make it understandable to someone with minor knowledge. I always look forward to our lessons because I always leave with a positive experience. I'm so thankful I found her because she truly is a wonderful teacher!

Amazingly patient!

I just stated pursing my career in singing and only wanted the best voice teacher. My search led me to Sarah. She is amazingly talented and super patient. I was worried at first because I knew I had a lot to learn. Especially being that I spent years singing in my room and acquired many bad habits. Sarah is helping me through this and I'm so greatful. I am learning notes, piano, and everything else that will help me excel in singing. Anyone would be lucky to have her. She is not only a great teacher but a great person as well. I look forward to more times with her.
Monica S. Astoria, NY

I love teaching! As a lyric mezzo soprano and I have over fifteen years of experience teaching students of all ages. I especially enjoy working with students who are excited to learn about music and singing. The thing I enjoy most about teaching is helping my students take risks and watching them grow as performers. I'm a hands on teacher and I encourage an open dialogue in lessons. Recent performances include performances at Carnegie Hall, with the San Francisco Orchestra and Vienna Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, Santa Fe Opera, and Central City Opera

Monica is an outstanding voice teacher. She customized each lesson, from warm ups to repertoire choices, to fit the age, skill level, vocal strengths, and interests of each singer. Watching her work with high school age students is a joy--she loves what she does and the students respond very well to her. They are enthusiastic about going to their lessons and beaming when the lessons are over. Monica brings her strong vocal pedagogy knowledge, along with her own talent and passion for teaching to the voice lesson. She is a wonderful instructor. Highly recommend!

Besides being a fantastic vocalist, Monica is also a great teacher. She is very creative, patient and calm (no drama), but is still disciplined and persistent. She managed to get basic music theory into my thick skull and help me with sight reading, and did not yell at me when I didn't do my homework! The only downside is that she is so talented and well trained that she makes singing look effortless.

Monica is such a fantastic teacher. She is one of those people who really listens to the needs of the student, and gives her all at every lesson. Through her knowledge and experience, Monica has rebuilt my voice and my confidence from the bottom up. I highly recommend working with her!
Michelle S. Astoria, NY

With opera voice, one experiences the ultimate in the "sport" of singing. This involves exploring the full range of one's instrument with the most glorious freedom and energetic connection. Opera singing blossoms from a completely organic coordination of breath and communication. I stress attention to honest, sincere dramatic interpretation (every bit as much as other forms of musical theater!) and joyous exploration of the lush musicality of this art form.

About Michelle

Every student is unique, and I tailor my lessons to best meet their individual needs. It is important to me that students learn through lessons that are insightful, interactive and fun! :) I began teaching in 1999 and have students of all ages and experience levels. Most recently a student of mine booked a contract for the national tour of "A Christmas Story!" In addition to being a voice and piano teacher, I am also a professional performing artist, singing on stages both in NYC and all over the world. I have a graduate degree in music from the Peabody Conservatory. My musical training began in 1982 and has encompassed voice, flute and piano. I am happy to discuss pricing packages and the possibility of having lessons in your own home, as well as any additional scheduling ...

I can't say enough good things about Michelle! I've taken voice lessons for years, but since graduating college any formal study had fallen by the wayside. Then a friend asked me to sing in her wedding and I needed help getting ready. In just two months, Michelle helped me get out of my head and into my body in a way that I hadn't been able to get to before. Even though Michelle was helping me prepare specific pieces, her strategies and insight helped me to re-solidify my foundation for how I sing. With Michelle, I've been able to find a freedom and ease in my voice that hadn't been able to achieve before. She's skilled and effective, and just a lovely person on top of it all!

Michelle and I worked together on the National Tour of Oliver. When not on stage or traveling, we spent our hours talking vocal technique and working together on exercises conducted by Michelle. I was especially impressed by Michelle's ability to speak my language when it came to accessing my voice. She used her Alexander Technique training to get me out of my head allowing me to trust my own voice. The vocal freedom I was able to access with Michelle was so valuable and I am excited to work with her again.

Nina Kennedy has increased the range and power of my voice via a series of vocal exercises, which also improved my sense of pitch. Our use of the Solfeggio system strengthened my ability to harmonize and to solidify pitch memory. I find her mild-mannered support to be very helpful and encouraging. I didn't know that I was capable of performing the repertoire she suggested!

I am very grateful for her faith in my abilities!
Claire M. Woodside, NY

I've been teaching in NYC for four years and am also a professional, working soprano in New York. I work with students of all voice types and levels.

The classical technique I teach incorporates consistent breath management and consistent, pure vowels. The combination and synchronization of these allow the singer to access all the resonance necessary for classical singing in a healthy, stress-free way. I also work with students on diction in the operatic languages (French, Italian, German and English) as well as help them understand stylistic differences across the history of classical music.

I teach classical/operatic singing to singers as young as 15, and you're never too old to start singing classically! Try something new with your voice, prepare your audition for that musical or for your college auditions. We will work together to create a free sound that is individual to you in a fun environment.

Can't wait to meet you!

About Claire

I'm a professional singer and a passionate teacher of voice and beginning piano. I have been singing since I was five, and studying voice since age 14, going on to complete a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Voice Performance. The classical technique I teach gives my students the tools to sing in a variety of styles, whether opera, broadway, pop, or rock. I also teach beginning piano for both children and adults, as well as ear training and musicianship. Everyone can make music. Even if you think you can't carry a tune, come learn with me!

Claire has been my daughter's piano teacher for two years and she's excellent!
Her knowledge and patience with kids make the lessons interesting and fun. I can see improvements week after week, not only in music-playing but also in my daughter's confidence. Claire is instilling a passion for music that I hope my daughter will keep forever.
