Beckie E.

North Hollywood, CA

About Beckie

Hi!
My name is Beckie and I have played music for all of my life. I play and teach many different instruments such as the Trumpet, French horn, Saxophone, Mandolin, Guitar, Clarinet, Voice, and Piano.

I graduated from Chapman University in 2010 with 2 degrees in music, Music Education and Music Performance on French horn. I am currently in my second year at UCLA for my masters in Music Performance on French horn.

When I first began teaching, I taught at an elementary school for 3 years as a brass coach for a Montessori Academy. This is where I fell in love with teaching. I have been t
eaching privately for 13 years now and love the one-on-one attention that I can give the students.

I have worked for many great organizations like the Los Angeles Philharmonic and California Philharmonic.

I currently am a freelance musician. I perform regularly with the UCLA Philharmonia and UCLA Wind Ensemble-the top two performing groups at the music school. I also am in horn ensemble called the Thursday Horn Club. I have performed in such wonderful venues as the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Sydney Opera house, in which I was able to premier a piece!

I look forward to working with you or your child in helping to start or continue a musical instrument!

*** Lesson Details ***
When I teach lessons, I like to go at the pace of the student. I am very patient but I expect the student to practice during the week. I will always work with a student as long as it takes to have them understand what is difficult for them musically.

For music, I try to find free options but books may be a better option. When we choose a book to play out of, I like to choose a book together so that the parent and the child are happy about the selection. Books vary based on what the needs are for each student. Books are to be purchased by the parent.

I usually play my instruments with the students, but being a freelance musician, I may need to save my chops for an upcoming gig. Not always, but happens from time to time :)

I also have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you are late for your lesson, I will try to accommodate the time but may have students or rehearsals afterwards so it will not always be a guarantee. If you are going to be late, please text me BEFORE the scheduled lesson.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lesson space is in my home w/ seating for parents and music stand for students. I also have a cat and a dog, so if you are allergic, please let me know!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to provide the music books and their own instruments and music stand.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical genres of playing but I am able to teach all different styles of music.

Michelle G.

North Hollywood, CA

About Michelle

VOCAL COACH
Rehabilitating and strengthening voices are two of my top specialties, and each lesson will have specific exercises tailored to helping you transform your voice into the highest and best version of your instrument. I work with singers signed to labels as well as the indie artist just starting to find his/her voice, style, and signature sound. My coaching approach incorporates some of the newest technologies that have shown extraordinary results in breaking down the inner blocks of each artist. It is a tremendously joyful and fulfilling experience to watch as my students really let
their instrument shine brightly, boldly, and with an aboslutely stunning groundedness as they discover how powerful they truly are.

MUSICIAN/SONGWRITER/PERFORMER

Poised, energized, and armed with unforgettable performance ability, Michelle G. is a firework in the artistic arena. Her training began at the young age of 3 with the violin, and a few years later received classes for piano and voice. Excelling in all three, Michelle developed a very passionate and dramatic personality that eventually led her to more dramatic genres such as opera and stage acting. Her aptitude to understand human emotions and relationships gives her a wide spectrum to play in as an actress. There is an organic flow to her interpretations both as an actress and musician that leads the audience to feel her emotional current. Her honest characterizations introduce deeper perspectives on what seems like the ordinary roles and storylines. Amongst the many other leads that she has played, her participation in roles like “Susanna” in The Marriage of Figaro, or “Donna Elvira” in Don Giovanni embody much vibrancy and integrity.
Through the development of her voice as a singer and actress, she has crossed over into other media such as voice over commercial work and vocals for pop/main stream music productions. She has recently participated as a vocalist and violinist in the albums of artists such as international jazz pop artist David Longoria, Latin pop singer Erick Bolivar, Grammy-nominated percussionist Souhail Kaspar, and American Idol’s Seysha. Over the last few years she has unraveled her musical skills as a songwriter/composer/arranger and has even had some small victories acquiring music placements on TV shows (NCIS, short film “Sumtin’ Like Dat”, The Dictator) for herself and some of her colleagues. Her singing can also be heard on the hit tv show "Jane The Virgin", "Castle" and "Shameless" amongst others.

Education
Michelle completed her Associates of Arts for Music/Music Education at the age of 18, and got later graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Miami with a Bachelor's of Arts for Musical Theater and Music Business, as well as from Florida International University with a Master's of Music in Vocal Performance.

*** Lesson Details ***
I tailor my lessons to my student's needs, style, abilities, and goals. Learning is truly a fun and passionate adventure for me, and my enthusiasm has consistently been a contagious quality :) I love to challenge myself & my students to discover how immense their true potential is, and I create a safe and fun environment to explore such facets.

My curriculum is combination of solid tradition (Suzuki method for piano & violin, and Bel Canto technique for singing) interwoven with pop-culture, and modern influences. Within the first 3-6 months, my students will know the basic building blocks of music - which includes scales, arpeggios, triads, intervals, technique, and performance repertoire; and for my singers this will include proper breath technique, tone placement, support, very often increased vocal range (both high and low), and will feel significantly stronger vocally and more confident getting up to sing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Full size Keyboard, mics, pro tools, Violin (electric, acoustic, and Chinese Ehru)

*** Specialties ***
Specialties include:
- Audition technique and prep
- Vocal Technique
- Violin Pedagogy
- Acting Audition Technique

Nicolas R.

Sherman Oaks, CA

About Nicolas

Hello there!

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Miami, FL. I started my musical career at the age of 8, singing in chorus, playing the recorder, and shortly afterwards moving to the guitar, and the violin.

When I was 15, I was nominated for a James L. Knight Award in Music, and I performed as a violin soloist with the Miami Beach Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony playing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major. One of my most memorable experiences when I was a kid! In high school, I formed my own string quartet and we would perform all over
the South Florida community especially at hospitals and for the elderly. At 16 years old, I was also given an internship with the New World Symphony, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, for about 2 years. During this time, I was able to take lessons from master violinists such as Marc Thayer and Glen Cherry. During this time, I was given the opportunity to perform with the New World Symphony at 17 years old for pops concert conducted and performed by Chuck Mangione in El Doral, FL.

I later on accepted a scholarship for violin performance at the University of Miami for my Bachelor of Music, and earned my Master of Music from Florida State University. I also taught string orchestras for 10 years at Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 Center, South Florida Youth Symphony as conductor (and now composer!), and conductor of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. I was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Alhambra Orchestra for two seasons under the guidance of my high school orchestra teacher, Mr. Reginald Nicholson (1947-2011). It was here where I was able to work on my compositions, orchestrations, and conduct a fine group of musicians.

I now live in sunny Los Angeles, in the Sherman Oaks area, and I'm loving the new change. I am eager to share my knowledge with new students on various subjects such as learning a string instrument to learning a different language. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your goals for learning!

LESSON DETAILS
I have been teaching music as an adult, certified teacher since I was in college, but have done teaching as early as 15 years old.

I will help you create a fantastic technical base so you will be able to play with ease as your skill level develops, all while keeping the lessons fun and engaging.

MUSIC STUDIO
Piano, Violin, Guitar, Music Stand, General Teaching Aids, Recording Equipment.

TRAVEL EQUIPMENT
I can provide a music stand and basic materials but the student is expected to have their own instruments and to buy the music I recommend. I can recommend various vendors/shops where you can buy the ideal instrument for your lessons.

EXPERTISE
I am classically-trained musician that also specializes in Tango performance, Latin/Jazz, Rock, and a variety of other styles. I believe that training in the classical aesthetic will create a firm, solid foundation to crossover into other areas listed above. With a good dose of technical exercises, scales, and a variety of repertoire, my students always turn out well-rounded, ready to tackle almost any kind of music they wish to learn.

Thank you for stopping by and let me know what you would like to learn!

Nick has been my nine-year old daughter's violin instructor for a little over a year. Not only has she made tremendous progress with her playing, she has had a great time during the lessons. Nick will challenge her when he feels she is ready, but will also slow down if necessary to review, to make sure she is using proper techniques and developing as a musician. My daughter is fortunate to have such a talented musician and composer as her violin teacher.

You cannot find a better Instructor. Nick is very professional and he pushes you, even when you feel you can't. He makes it fun and educational. I will continue to take Nick classes. Although I started late with this passion, Nick has made the journey stress free.

Erol G.

Panorama City, CA

About Erol

My style and attitude toward teaching tends to be more conversational, reflective, and interactive. I am less the official, policing type of teacher and tutor. I have developed a talent with certain creative arts, such as imaginative writing and electronic music production; as a result, I am computer literate, capable of assisting with computer assembly, maintenance, and design, as well as productivity software. Due to my limited funds, I do not have direct experience with the Adobe suite, but I have extensive knowledge of related, free distributions that are transferable. I also have formal e
ducation in the field of English, international relations, leadership, and Education. My current level is Master of Arts with advancement to the dissertation phase of a PhD program. My most popular subjects are as follows:

American-English Pronunciation Practice (ESL):
*****Each Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****
I have taught this subject for about four to five years for public and private causes, such as library, individuals, and language schools. My emphasis for pronunciation is a scientific, comprehensive overview and treatment of the various sounds, rhythms, inflections, and patterns the spoken language integrates. I encourage practicing and mastering both the sounds themselves, as well as how the sounds are connected and contextualized. I use contemporary sound recording and .wav editing software to involve audio feedback and self-monitoring.

German Language and Culture:
*****Each Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****
I have grown up bilingual English and German, attending an international school from a very young age. I attended, also, a German public secondary school, where I earned a diploma. I taught German in the language lab of a community college, for special needs students, and for private agencies, such as Tutor Doctor. My emphasis is on a comparative introduction of the language to draw out a common ground and familiarize possibly daunting differences. I also enjoy asserting that German is often underestimated as a rewarding second language to study.

Microsoft Excel:
This spreadsheet and data management software program is of crucial, pivotal importance in any business and financial environment. The program enables efficient and prompt development of arithmetic and statistical calculations of vast data sets. It also helps to visualize and juxtapose related or even discrepant variables. My approach to teaching the program is cumulative and holistic, starting with an introduction to personal inventory management to the processing of large data sets using pivot tables, charts, and dashboards. My emphasis is on making the program as intelligible and transparent as possible to avoid frustration and intimidation. I use a lot of examples and visuals that are readily available.
Typing:
I teach the touch-typing method that is the convention for most journalistic and input-intensive organizational settings. I teach the home row, proper finger and hand positions, proficiency with left and right hands, as well as posture and concentration methods. I enrich the teaching with resources from the web, such as speed-building and error reduction.
