Lyndsay M. (mezzo-soprano) holds a Master of Music degree in Voice from The Cleveland Institute of Music, as well as a Bachelor of Music in Voice and a Bachelor of Arts in Painting from DePauw University. While at CIM, she received the Frederick B. Prentice Award for Excellence in Voice, and at DePauw, she received the prestigious Performer’s Certificate. Teaching Philosophy: It is my belief that everyone has an individual learning style, and therefore, not everyone can be taught in the same manner. I develop a curriculum based on my students' individual needs and strengths as opposed to developing a single curriculum to be used by every student. Younger students will receive general music lessons with less emphasis on singing to preserve vocal health. These lessons will include basic piano skills, rhythm, music reading, music theory, and aural training. Thirty years ago, I was approached by a man in a chorus I was coaching. He liked what I did with the chorus and asked if I did private lessons. Although I had studied voice for over 15 years, and had been performing as a singer and actor for nearly 30 years, I had not taught privately before. However, I told him I would teach him and that began a wonderful and fulfilling career. My teaching style is unique in that I teach using a Capella (unaccompanied) techniques almost exclusively. My belief is that we have two ears and one mouth because we need to focus twice as much on critically listening to our singing as we do on mastering great singing techniques.
