I take a student-centered approach which basically means I take a needs assessment of my students and map out goals that are essential for them, their learning and where they want to go. Although I follow the students lead, following at a comfortable pace,

I also challenge in terms of structuring my lessons for growth and tracking progress. So whether you are looking to be the next American Idol or just wanna learn for fun, I am all in to helping you reach your personal aspirations! :)

I am able to use the Koday method as well as incorporate music theory but not necessary in my approach. It is more important that the student's personal needs and goals be met and attained in order to maximize full potential!

It is helpful if the student has the required book, staff paper, and a music notebook/folder to start :)

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have my own keyboard and guitar but children need to have their own keyboard/ piano or guitar for practicing.

Natalie is a superb teacher! We are thrilled to have found such a compassionate, dedicated, competent teacher. She provides my daughter with excellent lessons of consistency, practice, review of previous lessons and introduction to new material. My daughter is so excited for her lessons because Natalie is so positive and enriching in her teaching style. Natalie exudes happiness, knowledge in the subject matter, and an overall engaging personality. My daughter has made leaps and bounds since starting lessons several months ago. We highly recommend Natalie as a singing teacher!!!

Susan S.

Mission Viejo, CA

About Susan

I have been performing since the age of three. At the age of seven, I began classical vocal lessons. At 8, I wrote the school song for Cherry Creek Elementary School in Marquette, Michigan. When I was 10, I entered and won the Grand Supreme title at my first pageant. When I was 13, I moved my vocal training at the local University becoming the youngest classical vocal student. After years of participating in musical theatre productions, I landed a job in a guitar shop that lead to a big shift in my musical interests. I left my small town, the theatre and my classical background behind and bega
n fronting both Country and Rock bands, even singing along side Juice Newton, The Oak Ridge Boys, Glen Campbell, Sugarland, and Trick Pony on stage at the Porterfield Country Music Festival in 2005, which has in years past drawn nationally known country music artists such as Johnny Cash, Charlie Daniels, and Loretta Lynn. At age 19, I had an acoustic act which landed me a guest spot on 'The Tyra Banks Show.' I have been a featured performer at Chicago's House of Blues, as well as some of the most popular hotspots in Wrigleyville.
In most recent years, I have been behind the scenes as a vocal coach in the greater Chicago area. I moved to Mission Viejo, California recently, and look forward to meeting new students! I have four children, my youngest daughter has Down syndrome so I'm also partial to working with students with special needs.
I'm really excited to add that offer lessons online through TakeLessons! It's a great thing to get to work with students all over this country and I'm looking forward to help pioneer the future of music lessons!

*** Lesson Details ***
Whether you are looking to learn to project, or how to make it through an entire show without blowing your voice--I'm your gal! As long as students exhibit a willingness to try and to learn, then I'm more than willing to go the extra mile in my teaching. I just want to see genuine effort. Because I cater to all experience levels, I like to focus on individual goals of the student and build on those.

The biggest thing that I hope to give my students, is confidence. Whether or not music becomes a career for them, or just something to help get them through their day-- my goal is to show them that they can learn something new, they can accomplish things that they never thought they could do, they can sing for friends, join a band, play a challenging song, sing the high note they never thought they'd hit. If I can, anyone can. It's not about being perfect. Being perfect is overrated. It's about the passion behind the performance.

With that said, it's also about practice. Practicing builds the skills needed to keep that confidence alive. Then the more confidence you have, the more you say-- "Let's go for it. Let's try," the more you'll learn and the more skills you'll build. They feed off of each other. One can't survive long without the other.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Simple PA set-up.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide everything. If there is a particular piece that you want to work on that I don't have, I ask that you provide that.

*** Specialties ***
Classically trained, but I've also done a lot of musical theatre and have a strong background there. I do play guitar and bass, specializing in rock/folk and pop styles. I've taken tap and jazz from the age of 3 until I was 17 to help with Musical Theatre performance.

Suzie is extremely knowledgeable

Suzie is an amazing teacher! I am so impressed with her knowledge of music! In just the short time I've been taking voice lessons I can feel my voice getting stronger. She has taught me the correct way of breathing, projecting and standing. She's always giving me positive feedback, which is so helpful. I would recommend Suzie to anyone who is serious about taking voice lessons!

Susan is an amazing teacher

I haven't had too many classes with Susan but already I feel more confident in my voice. She has taught me so much about the correct way to breathe and the way to keep the right tone while you sing. I thought that taking lessons with someone over skype wouldn't be very effective but I was totally wrong because Susan is so prepared and sends you warm ups and also instrumental music for the song you are going to work on before your lesson. She makes sure to give positive comments as well as critiques so you won't feel uncomfortable or feel like you're a bad singer. I am so happy that I picked Susan and I would recommend her to anyone!!

Patricia S.

Laguna Niguel, CA

First you find your voice, then you discover your style.

Finding your voice means learning how to operate it in an efficient and effective way, without affecting it with style from the outside.

First lessons have to do with learning about and coordinating releasing a free tone, breathing, supporting and understanding how your specific voice works.

Second lessons have to do with putting all of that together and expanding on it to produce pleasing and healthy sounds from top to bottom, bottom to the top, and every note in-between.

And, of course, along the way we apply all of that new knowledge, skill and training to songs.

Advanced students keep your technique in good shape, enhance your existing technique and further hone style and presentation.

Performance. Technique. All styles.

Over the past year, my two children have taken singing lessons with Patricia. My kids are polar opposites of each other - in age, temperament, behavior, patience - you name it. My 14 year old daughter is in the gifted program at high school and my son in on the spectrum and spends part of each day in the special day class at his elementary school. Somehow, Patricia is able to provide individually tailored lessons for each child. They absolutely love going to see her! As a mother, nothing is more important than seeing your children thrive. This has been a richly rewarding experience for all of us.

Patricia is an amazing instructor on many levels. While she is an accomplished performer in her own right, she is equally able to break down the necessary vocal techniques in a manner that all ages and all levels can relate to. Lessons with Patricia are productive, but they are also fun! You will not find a more dedicated vocal coach anywhere.

Ross H.

Irvine, CA

In singing lessons you'll learn how to develop your unique style as a vocalist. You'll learn the difference between head voice, chest voice, and mixed voice. You'll learn proper breathing technique in order to hold out longer notes and to hit higher notes. You'll become a singing machine!

About Ross

I'm Ross and I'm a Berklee College of Music Alumni who's played and recorded around the United States. I've recorded in professional recording studios in Saint Louis, played at the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas, and performed at the House of Blues. I've been fortunate enough to play with talented musicians around the country and further hone both my performance and songwriting craft.

Nothing speaks better than results. Check out my songs on Spotify at https://play.spotify.com/track/0sU4N4F95McGTV4m7d7LGA and https://play.spotify.com/track/36ALgUiadItHVjc1rkYm1v.

A few quick things I can teach
you from the beginning: how to write a good-sounding chord progression without any guesswork, why the secret to melody is rhythm, how lyrics should dictate where your song goes--not the chords, how sequences make your listener's spine tingle, and much more.

With me, you'll learn the foundation of great music. We'll study how tension and release actually works. We'll study how each musical idea sets up an expectation and how we can strategically defy those expectations to create anticipation in our listener. We'll study which chords want to move where and why. We'll study how to make a series of notes more melodic. We'll study how music really works.

If you're ready to unlock the songwriting secrets of the Beatles and the other greatest songwriters and performers of all time, contact me. I'm ready to help you meet your potential.

Ross is a wonderful instructor! I began taking lessons from him with a few years of guitar experience under my belt. He began our lesson by having me play some chords as to asses my skill level. From there we jumped right in. His passion for the instrument and easy-to-understand way of teaching got me excited about learning guitar again! I hadn't felt so motivated since I first picked up a six string. I moved from just being able to strum chords to knowing how to play scales, finger pick, and decipher some theory (not perfectly but he'll get me there). Thanks Ross!

What an experience! Learning to play guitar has been a dream of mine for ever, but I never made time to make it happen and I was nervous that I was too old to start learning. Ross showed me that there is no such thing! I was able to go at a pace that I felt was comfortable. Ross was really great and constantly keeping me motivated and cheering me on, and now I can "perform" multiple songs when I get together with my friends and family!

Ross was a wonderful guitar teacher!
He has a unique method of teaching guitar that really works. He helps you learn how to play guitar, rather than just going through the motions. I've always wanted to learn how to play some of my favorite John Mayer songs, and he was able to help me learn the 'method to the madness' that I will be able to take with me to expand my horizons even more. His teachings will stick with me forever! Not only is he an amazing mentor, but he was extremely personable and considerate! I know who i'll be seeing for any future guitar-playing needs :)
